Chapter Thirty-Five: Lin Bai's Heartache
"To think that Dugu Brother sent a letter. I had intended to pass on a set of sword techniques I recently comprehended. But now it seems it would be of no use. The Martial Arts Technique I practice is all related to the sword, and it requires first cultivating the Sword Essence within our sect. Therefore, I have nothing to teach you," Lin Bai said earnestly.
"Listening to your words is more enlightening than reading a century's worth of books. For me, it is a lifelong benefit," Lin Feng expressed his heartfelt gratitude, then recalled something and asked, "What is the Sword Embryo?"
Lin Bai explained, "In the Foundation Realm, one condenses their cultivation into a lotus seed. Upon reaching the Cultivation Realm, the Martial Arts Technique of Solitary Moon City involves refining that lotus seed into Sword Essence."
"Does that mean one must shape it into form by the Nurturing Origin Realm? If I do not cultivate it into Sword Essence, what should I cultivate instead?" Lin Feng inquired.
"In the Cultivation World, this is referred to as Cultivating the Primordial Embryo, which is why Sword Essence can also be called Sword Embryo. Cultivating the Primordial Embryo is meant for practicing corresponding Martial Arts Techniques, thereby rapidly enhancing one's cultivation and allowing those techniques to unleash their full power. This is how a Cultivator can truly embark on the path of strength. The path your senior brother has arranged for you is primarily laid out for you; you only need to focus on cultivation without needing to refine anything else. I believe your senior brother will have further plans for you in the future," Lin Bai pondered.
Lin Feng carefully reflected on this statement and after a long while said, "Thank you for your guidance, senior. I understand now."
Then Lin Feng took out an item—it was the Ancient Cauldron. He asked, "May I ask, senior, is this Ancient Cauldron extraordinary? What rank of treasure is it?"
"Shoushan Copper?" Upon seeing the item, Lin Bai displayed a look of astonishment.
"Senior, what is Shoushan Copper?"
Lin Bai regained his composure and replied, "Shoushan Copper is a rare treasure of the earth; this item is remarkable and seldom seen in the world. You should not take it out lightly in the future; it could bring about deadly trouble."
"Then what rank is this item?" Lin Feng suppressed his shock and asked, secretly relieved that he hadn't revealed this item during his battle with Shen Yumen.
"It currently has no rank. Master Da merely shaped the Shoushan Copper into a cauldron form without forging it into its final shape. Therefore, it cannot be considered a treasure; it's merely a raw material. However, if it were forged into a cauldron..." At this point, Lin Bai paused.
"What happens? Is it at least rank nine?" Lin Feng asked eagerly.
"Shoushan Copper is extremely rare and difficult to forge. But if it were truly forged successfully, it would become an Imperial Artifact." As Lin Bai spoke these words, he himself became somewhat excited.
“Imperial Artifact?” Lin Feng was speechless with fear.
Artifacts of level nine and above are referred to as Sacred Artifacts, and above Sacred Artifacts lies the Imperial Artifact.
In the ebb and flow of the world, a genius appears once every thousand years, and an emperor emerges once every ten thousand years. However, since Emperor Huang, ten thousand years have passed without anyone able to cultivate to the level of Emperor. The Imperial Artifact is an existence akin to an emperor, appearing only once in ten thousand years.
The rare treasures capable of forging an Imperial Artifact are elusive and unique in the world. Even the Sword Saint has yet to encounter materials suitable for crafting an Imperial Artifact. Faced with Shoushan Copper, he was moved, his heart racing.
If the person opposite him were not a disciple of Divine Ruins, Dugu Po would not have sent him a letter. It would not be impossible for the Sword Saint to make a move to seize it.
Such materials are indescribably precious.
Lin Bai was puzzled; such a valuable Shoushan Copper could only be shaped by someone at the Foundation level like himself. What use could it be for someone as young as Lin Feng? More importantly, with such a treasure, wouldn’t he fear it being stolen?
Not everyone held the same respect for Divine Ruins as he did. Lin Bai found it hard to comprehend.
Understanding the importance of this item, Lin Feng felt ecstatic yet burdened. An innocent man may suffer for holding a treasure. If such a precious item were to leak out, his death would be imminent.
Lin Feng sensed that even someone as powerful as the Sword Saint could not remain calm.
At this moment, Lin Feng faintly regretted taking out this item.
“Thank you for your reminder, senior. I will take good care of this item,” Lin Feng hurriedly said as he put away the Ancient Cauldron.
Lin Bai glanced at him, realizing that there was not much time left in the day. He asked, “Do you have any other questions?”
“There is indeed one more question. When I entered the Sword Pool, I couldn’t see any swords. I searched all the way to the bottom of the pool but found nothing. However, when I closed my eyes, I could see a broken Iron Sword, but when I opened my eyes, it vanished.”
“Senior, does that broken Iron Sword really exist? If it does, can it be picked up?” Lin Feng asked.
Lin Bai's eyebrows twitched slightly as he asked, "Do you know the origin of Solitary Moon City?"
"I do not know," Lin Feng replied respectfully.
"The founder, Qingye Zhenren, was a legendary swordsmith. It is said that he achieved great heights in cultivation. In his later years, he passed by Solitary Mountain and found it to his liking. He decided to stay there and enjoy his twilight years. Throughout his life, he forged countless swords, but the one he was most proud of was the Moon City Sword. Thus, he named the sect he established Solitary Moon City," Lin Bai recounted slowly.
Lin Feng sensed something and asked in surprise, "Senior, the sword I saw couldn't possibly be the Moon City Sword, could it?"
After hearing the Sword Saint's tale, Lin Feng no longer dared to refer to it as the Broken Sword.
Lin Bai pondered for a moment and said, "Solitary Moon City has been passed down for a thousand years, and no one has ever seen the Moon City Sword. Therefore, I cannot be certain. However, considering your time spent at Sword Pool for three months, you should have reached the true depths of Sword Pool."
"Obtaining the Moon City Sword relies not only on talent but also on fate and a powerful Divine Consciousness."
"Senior, what is Divine Consciousness?" Lin Feng realized he had asked a rather foolish question.
Lin Bai patiently explained, "Simply put, Divine Consciousness is a potent form of imagination. A person's Divine Consciousness is rooted in their life."
Through the Sword Saint's explanation, Lin Feng finally understood what Divine Consciousness meant.
For instance, imagine you can close your eyes and envision a knife ahead of you; however, this is fictional and does not exist. Divine Consciousness is substantial imagination. When you feel there is a knife before you, it truly manifests as a knife.
This knife can harm others. However, Divine Consciousness can only attack another's Divine Consciousness; it cannot harm their physical body or cultivation.
The foundation of Divine Consciousness lies in one's birth; it determines the strength of their Divine Consciousness in the future. There are very few martial arts techniques for cultivating Divine Consciousness in this world. Although one's Divine Consciousness grows stronger with their own cultivation level, those with different foundational strengths will experience varying degrees of enhancement later on.
"I don't know if it's coincidence or if your senior brother arranged this intentionally, but I happen to have a martial arts technique for cultivating Divine Consciousness."
The fact that the Sword Saint possessed a secret martial arts technique related to Divine Consciousness was known to no one. What Lin Bai did not expect was that Dugu Po was aware of it. Perhaps that was the purpose of Dugu Po's letter.
As far as the Sword Saint knew, there was only one sect in the world that practiced the Divine Consciousness Martial Arts Technique, and that was the Yunlu Xian Sect. Renowned throughout the nine provinces for their medical skills, they were capable of miraculous healing. The world believed they practiced medicine, but little did they know, their true cultivation was Divine Consciousness, which they used to heal cultivators.
The fact that the Yunlu Xian Sect practiced the Divine Consciousness Martial Arts Technique was a closely guarded secret, unknown to most. Lin Bai learned of it because his junior sister hailed from the Yunlu Xian Sect and ultimately stayed in Solitary Moon City.
"The world is vast, yet there is nothing that the Divine Ruins do not know," the Sword Saint sighed. Had he not encountered his junior sister, he would have remained unaware of the Yunlu Xian Sect's secret and would have been unable to obtain information about the cultivation of the Divine Consciousness Martial Arts Technique.
Seeing the Sword Saint lost in thought, Lin Feng quietly stood by without speaking.
After a while, Lin Bai said again, "I will transmit this Martial Arts Technique into your Sea of Consciousness. You must remember, this Martial Arts Technique must not be shared with anyone else. You must never let a Third Person know about it."
Hearing the seriousness in the Sword Saint's tone, Lin Feng swore, "I will remember your teachings, senior. If a Third Person learns of it, I vow I shall not die a good death in this life."
Lin Bai nodded and then closed his eyes, transmitting the Divine Consciousness cultivation Martial Arts Technique into Lin Feng's Sea of Consciousness.
"It has been transmitted to you," Lin Bai said.
"May I ask, senior, where can I see it?" Lin Feng inquired.
Lin Bai patiently explained to Lin Feng about the Sea of Consciousness and how to enter it for self-reflection.
Lin Feng immediately put what he learned into practice and sat down to enter his own Sea of Consciousness.
The Sea of Consciousness was a space transformed by Divine Consciousness—an expanse of white with no boundaries or ground. Floating within the Sea of Consciousness were two items: a green jade tablet and a rusted Iron Sword.
Lin Feng recognized that the jade tablet contained information about cultivating Divine Consciousness. What surprised him was how the Iron Sword he had seen in the Sword Pool appeared in his Sea of Consciousness.
Could it be that since he first saw it, he had already found it? He just hadn’t realized it until now upon entering his own Sea of Consciousness.
Lin Feng conversed with the Sword Saint until day turned to dusk before reluctantly taking his leave. With a wave of his hand, the Sword Saint released a sword qi that enveloped Lin Feng and transported him back to Solitary Moon City's ancestral hall.
Lin Bai watched Lin Feng's back, a look of envy on his face.
It seemed like an impossible joke that someone so powerful would envy an ant in the Foundation Realm. Yet, that was the reality.
No one could understand Lin Bai's reverence for the Divine Ruins.
Since he began his cultivation and learned of the Divine Ruins' existence, not a day went by without dreaming of entering the Divine Ruins and becoming Senior Xu's disciple. Unfortunately, fate had other plans. Later, after mastering the sword path, he traveled across the nine provinces in search of the Divine Ruins, all just to catch a glimpse of Senior Xu and share a cup of tea with him.
Among the top cultivators in the Cultivation World, there is a saying about the Market: "The Market is like the azure sky; all people look up to it."
He had once painstakingly sought after it but had never even seen the Mountain Gate of the Divine Ruins. Yet Lin Feng, an ordinary person who had just stepped into the Cultivation World, had already become a disciple of the Divine Ruins.
Lin Feng's luck was far better than his own. Lin Bai couldn't help but sigh, "Is this what they call destiny?"
