Chapter Five: Strong Suppression
Leaving the materials store, Lin Feng quickened his pace towards the largest herbal shop in Qingshan Town—Medicine King Pavilion.
Medicine King Pavilion is a mysterious herbal shop, with this branch being just one of many in Qingshan Town. There are also locations in Solitary Moon City, and numerous branches throughout Qingyang County and even the entire Yang Prefecture, boasting significant influence and excellent reputation.
As for whether there are any outside of Yang Prefecture, Lin Feng was unsure.
Lin Feng knew that beneath the azure clouds lay the vast lands of the Nine Provinces and Four Seas. The Qingshan Town he resided in was situated within Yang Prefecture, right by the South Sea. It was merely an inconspicuous place within Yang Prefecture, and he didn't know much about the other major states.
As soon as he stepped into Medicine King Pavilion, Lin Feng spotted a familiar face—tall as a tower and robust as a young bull, it was Lin Shan.
Lin Shan also noticed Lin Feng and a hint of disdain appeared on his face. With a sarcastic tone, he said, "Cousin Lin Feng, are you here to buy herbs at Medicine King Pavilion? Just one precious herb here is worth several years of your family's income."
Lin Feng's family was not wealthy; both his parents were ordinary people who could not hunt beasts in the Azure Wind Mountain Range like Lin Feng could. It was indeed difficult for them to suddenly produce several hundred taels of silver to purchase herbs.
In contrast, Lin Shan's grandfather was an elder of the Lin family and held a position guarding one of their properties in Qingshan Town, which was quite lucrative. Naturally, his family was well-off.
Lin Feng smiled lightly and ignored him, beginning to search for suitable precious herbs.
"Foundation Realm Level Two focuses on strengthening vitality and increasing True Qi. In this regard, Mountain Ginseng has excellent effects; it can solidify the body, enhance vitality, and condense True Qi..." After pondering for a moment, Lin Feng settled on his target.
Mountain Ginseng is highly beneficial for martial artists at the Foundation Realm. Having consumed a Century Ginseng before, Lin Feng understood well the effects of Mountain Ginseng.
The older the Mountain Ginseng, the more valuable it becomes. Lin Feng scanned the prices of Mountain Ginseng to get a rough idea of their value.
A Centennial Mountain Ginseng is worth five hundred taels of silver.
A two-Centennial Mountain Ginseng requires one thousand two hundred taels of silver.
A three-Centennial Mountain Ginseng costs three thousand taels of silver.
The Five-Centennial Mountain Ginseng is worth ten thousand taels of silver.
Moreover, the Thousand-Year Mountain Ginseng is valued at forty thousand taels of silver!
Once the Mountain Ginseng reaches a thousand years, its effects can rival that of a top-grade elixir, the Foundation Pill, though the energy it contains is far less gentle than that of the pill.
Of course, the Mountain Ginseng holds immense energy; perhaps only a peak warrior at the third level of the Foundation Realm could withstand the Five-Centennial Mountain Ginseng.
Just as Lin Feng was about to make his choice, Lin Shan stood beside him and slammed a five-hundred-tael silver note on the counter, deliberately raising his voice, "Shopkeeper, give me a piece of One-Centennial Mountain Ginseng!"
At this point, Lin Shan provocatively glanced at Lin Feng, a mocking smile on his face as he sneered, "A country bumpkin like you can only stand by and watch. You're really embarrassing our Lin family!"
A playful smile appeared at the corner of Lin Feng's mouth as he turned to the shopkeeper and said, "Shopkeeper, I'll take three Three-Hundred-Year-Old Ginseng."
His voice drew the attention of many in the Medicine King Pavilion.
"Three-Centennial Mountain Ginseng? Lin Feng, you really know how to brag!" Lin Shan scoffed coldly.
Lin Feng ignored him and placed a nine-thousand-tael silver note on the table. After confirming that the note was genuine, the shopkeeper quickly retrieved three pieces of Mountain Ginseng and handed them to Lin Feng.
This scene caused Lin Shan's smile to freeze instantly, disbelief filling his eyes.
Stuffing the Mountain Ginseng into his robe, Lin Feng shot a sidelong glance at Lin Shan and coldly remarked, "A country bumpkin like you can only buy Century Ginseng. You're truly embarrassing our Lin family!"
Lin Feng returned Lin Shan's words to him, leaving Lin Shan furious and humiliated.
Seeing that Lin Feng had already exited the Medicine King Pavilion, Lin Shan hurriedly chased after him, shouting, "Lin Feng, stop right there! Let's compete again; whoever loses has to give their herbs to the other!"
Lin Feng disdainfully glanced at him and replied indifferently, "I'm not interested in your Country Bumpkin's Century Ginseng."
Lin Shan's face flushed with anger as he continued to provoke, "What's wrong? Are you scared?"
Lin Feng shook his head, too lazy to deal with Lin Shan's incessant nagging, and strode towards the Lin family residence.
"Lin Feng, take this! If I win, all your herbs will be mine!" Lin Shan shouted as he lunged at Lin Feng's back with a punch.
In an instant, Lin Feng turned around and delivered a powerful punch that collided with Lin Shan's fist, producing a dull thud. Despite the hasty response, he managed to push Lin Shan's attack back.
Looking at Lin Shan, Lin Feng sneered, "Since you want to gift me a Century Ginseng, I won't refuse! I'll accept this wager!"
Seeing the two members of the Lin family fighting in the streets of Qingshan Town, many people stopped to watch the spectacle.
Lin Shan was overjoyed and laughed heartily, "Lin Feng, my Tiger Fist has reached the Foundation level! This time you're doomed! Three Century herbs will all belong to me, Lin Shan!"
"Enough with the chatter. I'll give you a chance to strike; otherwise, you won't even get that!" Lin Feng replied coldly.
"Alright! This time I'll teach you a lesson! The tiger descends the mountain!" Lin Shan roared as he threw a rapid punch filled with fierce momentum towards Lin Feng.
Lin Feng remained calm and unperturbed. Just as Lin Shan's fist was about to reach him, he suddenly unleashed his right fist, striking hard against Lin Shan's punch.
Bang!
With a dull sound, Lin Shan's entire fist turned red and swollen. He staggered back several steps before falling to the ground, disbelief etched on his face.
The onlookers were left speechless. Many of them noticed that Lin Feng was also at the second level of the Foundation Realm, yet he hadn't even used any martial arts and still defeated Lin Shan in one move. It left them bewildered.
Lin Feng extended his hand towards Lin Shan and said lightly, "I don't even need martial arts to deal with you. Hand over the Century Ginseng!"
Getting up from the ground with a fierce expression on his face, Lin Shan charged at Lin Feng while shouting angrily, "I haven't lost yet!"
Lin Feng swiftly slapped Lin Shan across the face, sending him flying. He stepped forward and took the Century Ginseng from Lin Shan's arms, sneering, "You wanted to show off but ended up embarrassing yourself!"
"Give me back my Century Ginseng!" Lin Shan yelled while covering his face.
"It was you who wanted to bet with me. If you lose, this Century Ginseng will be mine! Even if I don't care for this Mountain Ginseng, I will reluctantly accept it." Lin Feng said calmly, no longer paying attention to Lin Shan, and turned to hurry back to the Lin family. He needed to focus on his cultivation and strive to break through to the third level of Foundation Realm before the Martial Examination.
Lin Shan's eyes were filled with resentment as he shouted, "Lin Feng, you wait for me! My brother will take revenge for me!"
"I'll be waiting for him," Lin Feng replied and quickly left.
Lin Shan's brother, Lin Qing, was a formidable warrior at the third level of Foundation Realm, ranking among the top in the Lin family. He was one of the most talented youths in the family and had a good chance of winning the top spot.
In the past, Lin Feng could only look up to him.
Now, with the nameless Stone Pearl, Lin Feng's cultivation speed had increased dramatically. Even though he still found it difficult to compete with Lin Qing at this moment, he believed that soon in the upcoming Martial Examination, he would not be without the strength to challenge Lin Qing!
This time, purchasing three Mountain Ginseng aged three centuries had drained all the silver he had earned. He couldn't help but lament the high cost of cultivation resources and hoped that their effects would not disappoint him.
Lin Feng did not sell all his materials; he kept four bear paws to take home for his parents. These bear paws came from a second-level demon beast known as the Earthshaking Bear and were highly nutritious. Even though his parents were ordinary people, they could benefit from them.
Lin Feng was determined that once he became stronger, he would definitely improve his parents' meals. As long as resources kept up, his parents might even cultivate True Qi and at least enhance their longevity.
When Lin Feng returned home, his father Lindor and mother Zhuo Wanting were very happy. They were all astonished when they heard that Lin Feng had already broken through to the second level of Foundation Realm.
After a joyful family dinner, Lin Feng returned to his room and sat cross-legged on his bed. He first took out the Century Ginseng he had won.
Lin Feng swallowed the Century Ginseng in a few bites and immediately felt a surge of hot energy rising within him, crashing rapidly inside his body.
He quickly mobilized his True Qi to guide that energy as it flowed through him, slowly refining it into his own True Qi.
Half an hour later, Lin Feng had completely refined the energy from the Centennial Mountain Ginseng, and his cultivation had made further progress.
Lin Feng shook his head in dissatisfaction with this result. The Century Ginseng did not have much effect on him.
He took out another Mountain Ginseng aged three centuries and swallowed it in a few bites. Instantly, he felt a scorching energy rampaging within him, causing a faint pain in his meridians.
Lin Feng never expected that the Three Hundred-Year-Old Ginseng would possess such immense energy. He quickly focused his mind and began to refine the overwhelming energy of this ancient Mountain Ginseng.
By the time dawn broke, Lin Feng had completely refined the energy of the Centennial Mountain Ginseng. His True Qi and vitality had significantly increased. A portion of the energy remained stored within Lin Feng's body, requiring continuous training for him to gradually absorb it.
As he noticed the first light of day approaching, Lin Feng made his way to the Lin family's martial arts arena, preparing to practice the Five Elements Fist several times to dissipate the medicinal power within him.
Just as Lin Feng arrived at the training ground, a cold voice rang out in his ears, "Lin Feng!"
Following the direction of the voice, he saw Lin Shan standing with his arms crossed, accompanied by another person.
This was a young man dressed in white, exceptionally handsome, exuding a faint but formidable pressure—it was Lin Qing.
