Inside, there was a round object, glowing red and pulsating as if it were breathing. It seemed to contain something within.
Infant Spirit.
The night was dark, an incredibly deep night. Gone was the bright moonlight, replaced by a gloomy atmosphere devoid of any vitality.
The Infant Spirit is a type of entity that lingers in the Yin-Yang Realm. It can only officially become a ghost after its own Lifespan ends, allowing for Reincarnation. The Infant Spirit possesses a greater Grudge Power than that of a ghost, and this Grudge Power increases as time passes. Initially, the only sustenance it requires for survival is the Vitality of its biological mother. As the Mother's Body weakens, the Vitality needed for the growing Infant Spirit increases correspondingly. If the Mother's Body cannot provide sufficient energy, the spirit will naturally seek out other sources to supplement its needs. During this time, they will gradually expand their range of exploration and may encounter other Mountain God Specters, leading to terrifying consequences.
Due to the immense resentment of the Infant Spirit, and because it lacks a physical form, it cannot become a Zombie. A Zombie is an entity from beyond the three realms, distinct from all other demons and spirits: its soul is trapped within its body. A true Zombie is a dead person who retains their fierce spirit. It exists in a state of complete death while simultaneously being in total existence. Generally, when one uses an Infant Spirit to create a Zombie, they aim to trap the spirit at the moment it separates from the Mother's Body, capturing its peak resentment. Timing must be precise; otherwise, if the Infant Spirit leaves the body, it can never be retrieved.
In essence, this Infant Spirit Zombie is intentionally created by someone.
For instance, the technique encountered by Wei Ning and Wang Tuozi at the Zhou family involved manipulating Nurturing Ghosts, which is indeed a despicable method targeting the Infant Spirit.
Suddenly, Wei Ning felt a chill at the back of his neck. No wonder the Zhu You School has always been looked down upon by so-called righteous figures from sects like Dragon Tiger Mountain. It seems this disdain stems not only from the centuries-long conflict between Zhu You and the Taiping Sect, but also from a deeper relationship of mutual decline.
When The One with the Surname Fang saw what was in Wu Feng's hand, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. With a slight smile, Wu Feng produced a bone needle about an inch long. The needle glimmered with an unusual light that only comes from being soaked in corpse oil.
With a gentle stroke on the membrane, he revealed an undeveloped child curled up with its hands and legs tucked in. Without hesitation, Wu Feng plunged the bone needle directly into the child's Spirit Cap.
The bone needle gathered yin energy.
Instantly, its color began to change as a foul odor spread through the air. The eyes of the Infant Spirit Corpse suddenly opened wide, revealing two beams of black light.
A Walking Corpse!
The member of the Fang family exclaimed in disbelief.
Walking Corpse, a form that transcends the typical Zombie.
While Zombies generally move in a jerky manner, this is due to the fact that once a person dies, their blood coagulates, causing their muscles to stiffen. As a result, they can only hop around, their eyes blood-red. However, Walking Corpses are different; they resemble humans more closely, with black eyes like those of living people. Their bodies are more flexible, allowing them to walk like humans. In a crowd, unless one is an expert in this field, it would be difficult to distinguish between a human and a Walking Corpse.
Thus, compared to Zombies, Walking Corpses are more agile and quicker, representing a superior breed.
However, this is not an absolute rule. For instance, certain types of Zombies, such as Flying Corpses and Unyielding Bones, have completely surpassed the likes of Purple Zombie and White Zombie. A typical Walking Corpse would struggle against them. If a Drought Corpse were to face off against a Walking Corpse, it would be a swift defeat.
Yet, when it comes to quality, the Walking Corpse stands several levels above the likes of White Zombie.
Wu Fei declared proudly, "I have suffered greatly for this creature. I endured quite a bit of hardship and was nearly turned against several times. Last year's Corpse Driving Conference, my unreliable creature was beaten to a pulp by you, Brother Fang Zhi. To regain some face at this year's conference, I've put in considerable effort."
Upon seeing the emergence of the Infant Spirit Corpse, Fang Zhi felt his momentum wane slightly. With a chuckle, he replied, "Brother Wu, you truly have put in great effort. However, if you bring out last year's unreliable creatures again, it would be quite disrespectful to me. But for now, I'll keep you guessing; you'll find out soon enough."
Both Wu Fei and Fang Zhi stepped back simultaneously. The sound of Fang Zhi's Yin Luo echoed continuously like the wailing of a vengeful spirit from the depths of hell as the blood-red-eyed White Zombie lunged swiftly at the Infant Spirit Corpse.
The Infant Spirit Corpse did not flinch or evade; the black claws of the White Zombie plunged directly into its chest and were pulled out again, covered in yellow pus that made Wei Ning feel nauseous.
With a hearty laugh, Fang Zhi remarked, "Brother Wu, did you perhaps buy this from the Ghost Market, just some bargain goods to fool us? There are many unscrupulous merchants these days; you should be cautious next time."
Wu Fei smiled slightly as he thrust his Corpse Driving Stick into the ground. With a twist of his hands, he produced ten controlling needles coated in corpse oil. One needle was driven into the back of the Infant Spirit Corpse. Suddenly, it opened its mouth to reveal rows of unformed baby teeth resembling sharp serrated edges that clamped down on the arm of the White Zombie.
With a howl of pain, the White Zombie struggled wildly, but the teeth of the Infant Spirit Corpse seemed rooted in place and refused to let go.
The expression on Fang Zhi's face grew serious as he continued to strike with his Yin Luo, commanding the White Zombie to slam the Infant Spirit Corpse repeatedly onto the ground. Yet, it was as if the corpse were made of mud; no matter how hard it was thrown down, it remained intact. Each impact left behind thick yellowish corpse water that instantly killed any insects or ants that came into contact with it.
Another howl escaped from the mouth of the White Zombie. Finally managing to fling away the struggling Infant Spirit Corpse, it looked at its own arm in shock—part of its flesh had been bitten off by the creature, exposing white bone beneath.
Without responding further, Fang Zhi launched another two needles from his hand directly into the temples of the Infant Spirit Corpse. It let out a sharp cry that sounded like both laughter and weeping—a sound that pierced through eardrums—before suddenly bouncing off like marbles shot from a bow and slamming against the face of the White Zombie.
No matter how much White Zombie struggled, it could not break free.
With a howl, White Zombie let out another scream. The Infant Spirit Corpse had bitten one of White Zombie's eyes out and was now crunching it in its mouth, the sound reminiscent of firecrackers exploding.
After finishing the eye, the Infant Spirit Corpse began gnawing on White Zombie's head. What was once an indestructible body was as easy to tear apart as tofu under the jaws of the Infant Spirit Corpse. In no time, half of White Zombie's skull was consumed, and the Infant Spirit Corpse licked its blood-red tongue over its lips in delight.
Fang Zhi sighed deeply and said, "Enough. This useless thing has led to my defeat. Brother Wu, you truly are the top disciple of the Wu Family. I admire you."
Wu Fei smiled and replied, "Thank you, but if it weren't for the motivation Brother Fang gave me last year, I wouldn't have gone to refine this thing."
Though Wu Fei spoke modestly, he had no intention of recalling the Infant Spirit Corpse, allowing it to continue devouring White Zombie. It seemed that Fang Zhi was indifferent to the fate of White Zombie.
However, Wei Ning felt a sense of injustice at the sight; their treatment of the dead was truly outrageous.
Suddenly, Fang Zhi said, "This White Zombie is just a beast I discarded long ago. Today, to surprise Brother Wu, I have prepared a grand gift."
Wu Fei nodded and said, "I look forward to it."
With that, Fang Zhi struck his hand with the Yin Luo, creating a chaotic rhythm and declared, "Then you better keep your eyes peeled, Brother Wu!”
