Wang Tuozi nodded and asked, "How old were you back then?"
"Fifteen," Peng Bai replied.
Wang Tuozi sighed and said, "At such a young age, you were already so cunning. You truly are not an ordinary person."
Peng Bai chuckled, "Likewise, anyone who can live for a hundred years or more is no ordinary person."
"If I’m not mistaken, you must have gone back on your word later and played Wei Xianjun for a fool. You secretly took the secret manual and made Wei Xianjun work for nothing, right?"
"Of course! Otherwise, how could the Wei Family harbor such hatred towards me? Ever since that incident, the Wei Family has mobilized the entire Zhu You School to hunt me down, even framing me for the murders of the Great Lamas of the Black Cult. It made me feel like a rat in the street, with everyone wanting to take me down. I was forced to hide everywhere, barely managing to survive. Those days were truly worse than death."
Wang Tuozi sighed, "People die for wealth, and birds perish for food. What you did isn't too excessive."
Peng Bai replied, "However, during that time of fleeing, I discovered I had developed a very bad habit."
"What habit?"
"The habit of stealing. Ever since I stole the Black Teachings Codex, I found myself almost falling in love with that feeling. For decades while on the run, I kept changing my identity and infiltrating various sects in Central Plains to steal their treasures. This not only concealed my identity but also allowed me to learn quite a few tricks from the martial world. It wasn't until the Sino-Japanese War broke out and the Wei Family participated in the Changde Campaign that things changed."
"And what does that have to do with you?"
"Originally, it had nothing to do with me, but I discovered that Wei Xianjun, that old fool, actually conjured up Thirteen Blood Corpses. The power... you know it well enough; it’s earth-shattering and world-ending."
"Alright, alright, let's get to the point. Stop rambling."
"The power of the Blood Corpse deeply moved me, so I began to research its origins. After the Changde War, the Wei Family suffered heavy losses, and Wei Xianjun went missing. As a result, their defenses were not as strict as before. I slowly started to uncover some secrets, particularly those related to the Undying Bone. I began to understand why Wei Xianjun had attempted to steal the Black Cult's secret texts back then."
"What do you mean?"
Peng Bai held up four fingers and mysteriously said, "Four words: 'Immortal and Indestructible.'"
"The Undying Bone is a curse of the Wei Family, but it also empowered them, giving them the chance to probe into the most profound laws of existence."
Peng Bai took a deep breath and slowly said, "Eternal life!"
"What do you mean?"
"The Undying Bone is the source of intelligence for the Wei Family. Without the Undying Bone, a Blood Corpse is merely a soulless entity, controlled by others. But what if a Blood Corpse possessed intelligence?"
Wang Tuozi exclaimed in shock, "Then it would transcend the cycle of life and death, becoming an immortal existence!"
Peng Bai snapped his fingers and said, "Smart. Once I learned about Wei Xianjun's intentions, I began searching for the Wei Family's Blood Corpses. However, that old ghost Wei Xianjun was far too clever; he created illusions of himself to guard these thirteen Blood Corpses' Undying Bones. Therefore, I had no way to obtain the Undying Bone. Without it, I couldn't resurrect these Blood Corpses."
"But just when I was at my lowest point, I received an important piece of information: there were not just thirteen Blood Corpses created by Wei Xianjun back then, but fourteen. This means there is still one... beyond Wei Xianjun's control."
"Which one is it..."
"That's right," Peng Bai interjected, "which one is Wei Xian Gui!"
"Although Wei Xian Gui is from the Xian Clan, he was over fifty years younger than Wei Xianjun at that time, still a graceful young man not yet twenty-seven. Because Wei Xian Gui was born out of wedlock, and his parents passed away shortly after his birth due to their old age, he held very little status in the Wei Family. In fact, even his nephews and grandchildren could bully him."
"However, if that were the case, it would be one thing. But this Wei Xian Gui had an extremely extreme personality, believing that everyone was deliberately targeting him because he was born out of wedlock. He harbored deep resentment towards Wei Xianjun. Yet, this Wei Xian Gui was indeed a genius; despite his youth, he had the qualifications to replace Wei Xianjun as the top expert of the Wei Family."
"Thus, in Wei Xian Gui's mind, he always considered himself a threat to Wei Xianjun's position as the family leader. When he learned that he had been chosen to become one of the fourteen Blood Corpses, it was only natural for him to feel indignant, believing that Wei Xianjun was seeking personal revenge. Of course, he would not submit easily."
"After a fierce battle, the outcome was clear: at that time, Wei Xian Gui was no match for Wei Xianjun and was forced to become a Blood Corpse. However, Wei Xian Gui remained defiant; even in death, he did not allow Wei Xianjun to extract his Undying Bone. Although Wei Xianjun obtained Wei Xian Gui's corpse, without the Undying Bone, he could not control him. This is why there were only thirteen corpses from the Wei Family during the Changde Campaign."
"If I am not mistaken, you obtained Wei Xian Gui's Undying Bone and successfully resurrected him using the Black Cult's secret techniques, right?"
Peng Bai nodded with a smile and said, "But I never expected that this brat would not only fail to show gratitude but would instead repay kindness with malice, biting back at me and imprisoning me in this hellish Burning Corpse Forest. How can such treachery exist in this world!"
Wang Tuozi smiled and replied, "You resurrected Wei Xian Gui with ulterior motives; you must have wanted to use his immortal abilities to control him. It’s only natural for Wei Xian Gui to resist your control and retaliate against you."
Peng Bai fell silent for a moment. Wang Tuozi continued, "With your personality, having suffered such a great loss and being played around like this, you certainly wouldn’t accept it easily. So even though you are trapped in the Burning Corpse Forest, you have not forgotten about revenge. You know that an immortal Blood Corpse can only be eliminated by another immortal Blood Corpse. Thus, you have long set your sights on my useless disciple and secretly nurtured him in hopes that he could become your tool for revenge. That’s why you spared no effort in helping him find the Yin-Yang Eye and assisting Liu Linglang in overcoming her tribulation. In fact, all of this was part of your plan from the beginning, wasn’t it? Even including helping this brat come back to life; those conditions you offered were merely smoke and mirrors to deceive me."
Peng Bai nodded slightly and suddenly said with a relaxed expression, "But there’s one thing you got wrong: when you were digging for earthworms back then, I really enjoyed watching."
