At this moment, Wang Tuozi's lips twitched slightly. "Changing one's fate is not easy. Throughout history, how many have been able to do it?" 0

Wang Tuozi sighed for a while and said, "That's enough for today. It's late; you should get some rest. Tomorrow, come with me to sell charms." 0

Once Wei Ning fell asleep, Wang Tuozi quietly got up, took out a tape recorder from the cabinet, set the tape in place, put on the headphones, and somehow found an old, yellowed book. He began to read softly along with the tape: "Selling charms, Han Meimei, good at fighting..." After practicing a few lines, he suddenly felt restless and cursed, "What a piece of junk! It's harder to read than the Diamond Sutra. I'm done with this; I'm going to sleep!" 0

The next day, Wei Ning went out as usual with a basket of fake charms to sell. To his surprise, business was exceptionally good that day; he sold everything before noon. Bored, and knowing that his master wouldn't return anytime soon from fortune-telling, he thought to himself, "Since it's still early, I might as well go down the mountain and take a look around." 0

Phoenix Ancient Town lay nestled between mountains and rivers, with the clear Tuo River flowing through it. The ancient streets served as the main axis connecting countless alleys throughout the town. It was summer vacation now, and tourists were everywhere. 0

For Wei Ning, who rarely traveled far, everything felt fresh and exciting; it seemed he could never get enough of it. Suddenly, his gaze was drawn to a girl by the riverbank. 0

The girl was about the same age as Wei Ning. Sitting by the river, she was young but already had the makings of a beauty. The gentle breeze from the Tuo River swayed her green skirt as she hummed softly along with her music player while gazing down at the clear water with an air of calmness. 0

In this bustling crowd of tourists, she seemed distinctly separated from everyone else, emphasizing her graceful and charming demeanor. A feeling of awe surged within Wei Ning. 0

Her white sneakers rested on the riverbank as her delicate feet lightly splashed in the water—"treading lightly on waves without leaving a trace," one might say. 0

Suddenly, the girl turned her face toward Wei Ning and made a funny face at him. "What are you staring at? Never seen a beauty before?" 0

Wei Ning's face instantly turned as red as fire; he couldn't find his words. The girl took off her earphones and looked at him with a chuckle, tilting her head as she asked, "What's your name? Why are you peeking at beauties instead of studying?" 0

"N-no," Wei Ning stammered, unsure where to put his hands, nearly wishing for a hole to hide in. 0

The girl waved for Wei Ning to come over and patted the spot beside her, inviting him to sit down. "I'm Lin Lingsu. I'm here in Phoenix for fun. What's your name? Where are you from? Are you here for fun too?" 0

"Lin Lingsu—what a beautiful name," Wei Ning thought to himself. "I'm Wei Ning, from Xiangxi." 0

"Xiangxi? Isn't that where the Corpse Driver is from? Have you ever seen a Corpse Driver?" Lin Lingsu jumped up excitedly and mimicked a zombie's movements. 0

Wei Ning thought to himself that if he told her he was a Corpse Driver, she would surely be scared and wouldn’t want to play with him anymore. He quickly shook his head and said, "No, no! I don't know what a Corpse Driver is." 0

Lin Lingsu's eyes dimmed slightly as she expressed disappointment. "I thought I would encounter a Corpse Handler during my trip to Xiangxi. I didn't expect all those books to be lies—they're all nonsense." 0

"No, there really are some," Wei Ning replied seriously. 0

"You didn't even know earlier; how come you're changing your tune now?" Lin Lingsu said with a playful glint in her large eyes as she looked at him with an amused expression. 0

"Really, I even rushed over!" 0

"You're just bragging." 0

"No, I'm not." 0

"Absolutely not." 0

"Not at all." 0

Lin Lingsu plugged her ears and shook her head, saying, "I won't listen, I won't listen. You're just talking nonsense." 0

"Not at all," Wei Ning, being younger and unable to handle the excitement, recounted his experiences with his grandfather, the Corpse Driver, in detail to Lin Lingsu. At the exciting parts, Lin Lingsu kept asking questions and occasionally patted her chest in concern for Wei Ning and his grandfather. Unbeknownst to them, their distance was gradually closing. 0

"You say you can be a Corpse Driver, but how can I believe that?" 0

"I..." 0

"I have a good idea," Lin Lingsu leaned closer to Wei Ning and whispered, "Do you see that person over there? The one with the shifty eyes? He looks like a thief. Why don't we kill him, and then you can use him to perform as a Corpse Driver for me? That way, I'll believe you." 0

Wei Ning's heart skipped a beat in fear, and he quickly waved his hands. 0

Seeing Wei Ning's flustered expression, Lin Lingsu burst into laughter. "I was just joking! Look at you getting all worked up." 0

She handed her portable music player to Wei Ning. "Let's just listen to some music. Do you like it?" 0

Wei Ning rarely listened to music and quickly shook his head. Lin Lingsu then shoved one of the earbuds into his ear. The soothing melodies immediately captivated him. Lin Lingsu hummed along lightly with the music. 0

After one song ended, Lin Lingsu passed the music player back to Wei Ning. "You choose now; listen to whatever you want." In a moment of distraction, Wei Ning accidentally dropped the music player into the river. 0

"My music player!" Lin Lingsu screamed. 0

Seeing Lin Lingsu panicking made Wei Ning's heart race. Without thinking twice, he jumped into the water. 0

"Someone has fallen into the water!" The tourists on the shore erupted in chaos. 0

When Wei Ning was pulled up by someone, he was tightly gripping Lin Lingsu's hand. 0

Lin Lingsu picked up the portable music player that Wei Ning had dropped, shaking it vigorously. "It's soaked and broken. It can't be used anymore?" 0

"What should we do?" Wei Ning said anxiously, wringing his hands. "Should we find a place to get it repaired?" 0

"How can it be fixed? This was brought over by my uncle from America; it can't be repaired here." 0

Realizing he had caused trouble, Wei Ning quickly offered, "Then I'll pay you back. How much is it?" He mentally calculated the money in his account, thinking that if he spent less, he could save enough to buy a new player. 0

Seeing Wei Ning genuinely worried, Lin Lingsu chuckled lightly. "I was just teasing you! Just blow on it when we get home, and it'll be fine. But you," she said, wiping the droplets of water off Wei Ning's head, "look like a drenched chicken." 0

"Follow me," Lin Lingsu said without hesitation, taking Wei Ning's hand as they walked. Although Wei Ning was still a child, he was at that age where feelings were starting to blossom, and his face turned bright red. 0

Lin Lingsu stopped in front of a shop selling hand-painted clothes. After browsing for a while, she picked out a shirt with a mouse design from Cat and Mouse for Wei Ning to wear and bought herself a shirt with a cat design. Wei Ning rushed to pay, but Lin Lingsu was just a bit quicker. 0

"Hehe, you really look like a mouse in that shirt," Lin Lingsu clapped her hands. "From now on, I'll call you Mouse. Come on, Mouse, let's take a picture." 0

Wei Ning quickly waved his hands in refusal because the Wei family had a strict rule: members were not allowed to take photographs. They believed that photographs would capture one's vitality and hinder their cultivation. 0

"What's wrong? Not giving me face? How rude!" Lin Lingsu pouted in annoyance. 0
