"Please... sob sob... please... don't do this... don't treat me like this... please... don't..."
The girl's cries were pitiful and heart-wrenching, enough to bring tears to the eyes of anyone who heard her. Even the coldest butcher would find it hard to suppress a feeling of sympathy.
But Chu Donglin looked at her coldly, his eyes filled only with ruthless indifference.
He bent down and pulled out the twisted sword, then grasped the girl by the neck and lifted her up.
Her heart had been pierced; any ordinary human would have died by now, yet the girl continued to cry and plead, her life force not fading away as expected.
She wept in agony, her tear-filled eyes gazing at Chu Donglin, begging for his mercy.
"Please, don't do this... don't kill me... sob sob... don't kill me... I don't want to die yet... sob... I don't want to die..."
Chu Donglin shook his head, unmoved.
He raised the twisted Evil God's Sword, slowly aiming the tip at the center of the girl's forehead, taking a deep breath.
Then he exhaled.
"Just sleep for a while, Chu Donglin. A little sleep is all you need."
The twisted sword gently pierced her forehead, slicing through bone and flesh, plunging deeply into the creature's vital center.
Blood flowed from the girl's forehead.
The cries faded away.
In Chu Donglin's hand, her eyes were wide open, filled with disbelief, horror, and a plea for mercy.
But the plea could not save her.
Her neck was gripped tightly by Chu Donglin, her body lifted into the air like a pitiful piece of cargo.
As Chu Donglin withdrew the sword, more blood gushed from the girl's forehead.
Her limbs twitched lightly a few times before falling still.
Her arms hung down like wet clay, devoid of any vitality.
A black smoke rose from her body, carrying a repulsive stench and piercing wails.
Chu Donglin reached out, grabbing hold of the escaping black smoke.
A shrill scream echoed from within the mist.
As Chu Donglin's hand clenched around it, the smoke seemed to suffer excruciating torment, wailing in agony and desperately struggling to break free.
Yet Chu Donglin held on tightly; no matter how hard it fought, it could not escape.
Then the smoke twisted and churned, eventually coalescing into an ugly head.
Two fierce and enormous eyes glared at Chu Donglin, filled with hatred. Long, slender tentacles hung down from its chin, resembling a beard.
It opened its mouth and roared angrily at Chu Donglin, a foul wind rushing toward him, causing him to frown involuntarily.
"Let go! Damn bastard! If you do not obey, you will die a terrible death in disaster!"
Chu Donglin squeezed hard, and the black smoke writhed in agony, letting out a wretched scream.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn you, you villain! Damn you, Nyarlathotep! You should die! You should die!"
Chu Donglin looked at it and coldly shook his head.
"Even if I should die, you must die before me, Cthulhu. How could I rest in peace without witnessing your death?"
The black smoke twisted and rolled, the head formed of smoke contorting in pain. It glared fiercely at Chu Donglin, appearing exceptionally ferocious.
"Why do you insist on pursuing me relentlessly? Your enemies are Hastur and Cthulhu; I have never had any grievances with you. Why must you kill me? Wouldn't it be better for everyone to go their separate ways?"
"No, Cthulhu, it was you who left me no way out; that’s why I came to find you."
Chu Donglin coldly regarded the Evil God in his hand. "The Octopus Monster I saw in the Wocheng Li River was your incarnation, right? At that time, you extracted and copied my soul, wanting to create another me to kill me… am I wrong?"
Cthulhu wailed.
"No, no, no! It wasn't like that! It wasn't like that! You have to believe me. I was only trying to protect myself. I feared Nyarlathotep would hunt me down completely, so I left myself a way out. I bear no hostility toward you."
"Do you have no hostility towards me? Then what about this girl?"
Chu Donglin kicked the lifeless body of the girl at his feet, his expression cold as ice.
"The original soul of this girl was erased by you and then infused into my own. You lured her here to steal the power of Earth, intending to use that power to kill me, didn't you? Because she has copied my soul, she knows all my weaknesses and will be my most deadly enemy. I will find it difficult to withstand her ambush."
As he spoke, Chu Donglin tightened his grip on the black smoke in his hand, and the entity known as Cthulhu, the Evil God, began to wail.
"Oh no, no, no! Don't do this, it's not like that... Mr. Chu Donglin, Nyarlathotep, I truly mean you no harm. You must believe me. Don't trust that damned demon's lies; he comes from the Death World of another dimension and covets this world, intending to destroy this planet. He is your greatest enemy."
"And I am just a poor, dying old fellow. I only want to use the power here to leave Earth and find a place in the depths of the universe to hide and recuperate. I mean you no harm."
Amidst the Evil God's pleading and arguing, the shadow of the demon slowly appeared nearby.
He looked disdainfully at the writhing black smoke and curled his lip.
"No matter which Great Old One it is, they are all dark and evil to an abhorrent degree. It seems this fellow is too severely injured to speak anything but foolishness... Can't he be a bit smarter even in his attempts at sowing discord?"
Chu Donglin glanced at him and extended the black smoke in his hand.
"Would you like to execute it?"
The demon shook his head.
"I am not from this world; interfering with its development is already inappropriate, let alone executing an Evil God from this realm... You handle it yourself. The hidden dangers of your world must ultimately be resolved by you."
Chu Donglin shrugged and raised the twisted sword, its sharp tip aimed at the swirling black smoke.
"Is there anything else you want, Cthulhu? Here's your last chance to say something before you die."
The black smoke immediately let out a wretched scream and began to struggle desperately, trying to distance itself from the twisted sword of the Evil God, howling in pain like a madman who had reached the end of a dead end.
"No! Absolutely not! Get it away! Get it away! Keep that damned thing away from me!"
"Nyarlathotep, get it away! I'll tell you a secret... I'll tell you a secret! If you take it away, I'll tell you."
Chu Donglin furrowed his brow.
"What secret?"
The black smoke struggled and wailed, "Get it away! Don't let it near me! Hurry up!"
Chu Donglin glanced at it, shook his head, and lowered the twisted Evil God's Sword.
"Well then, what secret?"
With the threat to its life lifted, the black smoke finally sighed in relief.
It cast a fearful glance at the Evil God's Sword in Chu Donglin's hand, then looked at the demon beside him. Its throat moved slightly, and in the end, it spoke.
"The secret of immortality... the secret that can grant mortals eternal life."
It cautiously observed Chu Donglin's expression, afraid of provoking the man who held its life and death in his hands. It spoke softly.
"Isn't your main purpose for coming to find me to achieve this? To help your friends and family find the power of immortality? You don't want to watch them grow old and then pass away before your eyes."
"Because the Evil God has an infinite lifespan, you would helplessly witness their aging and dying... You don't want to be alone, do you?"
Chu Donglin nodded, not denying Cthulhu's words.
"Yes, that's right. I came to you not only to eliminate your threat but also to obtain the power of immortality."
Relaxing the grip in his hand, he allowed Cthulhu to breathe a little easier. Chu Donglin looked at it coldly and said, "Now, Cthulhu, tell me how to acquire that power."
The black mist began to twist and writhe.
It glanced at the demon who had been silently watching the scene unfold. Then it turned back to Chu Donglin, hesitating slightly.
"I have the power. I can grant mortals eternal life, as you know. Nyarlathotep, I can transform any human into a Deep Diver and bestow upon them everlasting life..."
Suddenly, a sword was raised sharply and plunged into the black mist.
In an instant, a piercing wail erupted that nearly shattered eardrums, echoing throughout the city, even stirring up the dust on the ground.
The mist held in Chu Donglin's grasp convulsed violently, howling in agony as if enduring terrible torment.
"No, no, no! Pull it out! Pull it out! Nyarlathotep, you can't do this! Keep it away from me! Keep that sword away from me!"
Amid the anguished wails of the Evil God, Chu Donglin withdrew his sword, gazing coldly at it as he growled softly.
"I'll give you one last chance. If you still refuse to tell the truth, I won't hesitate to erase you completely! You know that this sword, forged from your own spine, possesses the power to kill you!"
The black smoke began to wail in agony, resembling a weary monster that had long since given up its resistance.
"Alright! Alright! I will never do it again! I promise, I will never act recklessly again!"
It howled in desperation, painfully declaring its surrender.
Looking at Chu Donglin, there was no longer any arrogance in its demeanor; only the remnants of sorrowful pain lingered on its face.
With a hoarse voice, it spoke.
"The power of the Evil God lies in Lalaye. Although it has been destroyed by Nyarlathotep, it still retains its secrets. If you go to Lalaye and search earnestly, you will find the power of immortality among the ruins of that city, allowing you to rescue your loved ones from the confines of mortality."
