“Tut, tut... Chu Donglin, my dear man, your thoughts are still stuck in the shallow realm of humanity. Don't forget, you are now one of the three Great Old Ones, Nyarlathotep. Time and space mean nothing to you; life and death cannot shake your heart... Why do you still cling to such superficial ideas? It truly baffles me.”
Acha's light laughter did nothing to sway Chu Donglin's indifference.
He looked coldly at the woman before him, as always devoid of any excess emotion.
There was no hatred, but certainly no friendliness either.
“If you cannot understand, then don’t bother trying. Besides... Acha, it’s about time for you to disappear.”
The woman wore a sorrowful expression.
“Are you really so eager to send me away?”
“What can you do if you stay?”
“Keep you company, alleviate the loneliness of your journey~~~”
“Sorry, I’m not lonely.”
“Don’t be so cold. With a captivating beauty like me by your side, shouldn’t you be happy?”
“Not happy.”
“Well then, since you dislike me so much, I suppose I’ll just have to leave obediently…”
Acha lifted her head to glance at Chu Donglin and shrugged. “But before I go, let me give you a friendly reminder: this time, you might not be without hope... You could even return unscathed.”
Chu Donglin's brow furrowed.
“What do you mean?”
"There's nothing to it, just wanted to comfort you before I leave."
Acha smiled lightly, her phantom slowly dissipating before Chu Donglin. "As long as you don't give up hope, there will always be a turning point in the future."
...
Morning light broke.
It pierced through the veil of night, bringing warmth and brightness to this broken world.
In the Desolate Wilderness, she walked alone.
The warm wind rushed towards her, tousling her long hair. When she turned back, the Lonely Mountain Town, belonging to humanity's Survivors, was no longer in sight.
All that remained was the endless grassland and a sky so blue it looked washed clean by water.
She carried no weapons, for an instinct within her told her that this journey would hold no danger.
And indeed, that was the case.
Along the way, all the Zombies wandered aimlessly, ignoring her as she brushed past them, making no attempt to attack.
This should have been a strange phenomenon, yet she accepted it as if it were only natural.
As she traversed the boundless grasslands and drew closer to her destination, she increasingly sensed a peculiar aura drifting from the north.
Something very strange was there in Northshire.
She could feel that presence.
Familiar yet yearning, there was also a hint of resistance within her.
However, that feeling of resistance was so subtle that it hardly interfered with her actions.
She continued onward, trekking through the desolate wilderness of a post-apocalyptic world, where silence reigned and no human figures could be seen.
Wandering alone in such a wasteland could evoke a sense of being abandoned by the entire world.
But she paid it no mind.
In her ears, that strange voice softly resonated, guiding her direction and illuminating her path.
The voice seemed to possess an odd kind of magic, compelling her to trust and obey it, allowing her to forget the solitude and dangers of her journey.
Yet no matter how pleasant the journey might be, it would eventually reach an end.
When the abandoned city occupied by Zombies appeared before her eyes, she knew that this leg of her journey was coming to a close.
Ahead lay the most dangerous city in the country, known as Northshire, the Lone City.
Before the apocalypse, this was the largest and most luxurious city in the nation, home to countless Dodos. The population density here was certainly unmatched by the sparsely populated areas elsewhere.
Naturally, there were many Zombies here as well.
But she felt no fear.
"Cthulhu. Is this where you are?"
The girl stood among the mountains, gazing down at the city on the plains below. Curiously, she remarked, "This is Northshire."
In her ears, that voice began to resonate once more.
"Of course, my princess, you know this is Northshire... Please, focus your senses; you should be able to feel its presence."
"Hmm, I can sense it, a very strange feeling."
She tilted her head slightly, a mix of confusion and unease crossing her face. "Can I really take it with me?"
"Of course, my princess. It was created for you."
"Is that so?"
Yes, my princess. Its existence is meant to await your arrival. So there is no need to hesitate... Come, let us go together and find it, then take it with us.
She nodded, somewhat understanding but feeling even more anxious.
"But Cthulhu, it was made for me... Does that mean all of this was destined? Must I do this?"
Yes, my princess. This is your fate, one that cannot be avoided nor needs to be avoided, for you will ultimately be crowned as queen.
The girl giggled.
"Crowned as queen? Cthulhu, are you serious?"
Of course, my princess. You will become the queen of the world... As long as you embrace it, there will be no creature in this world that can defy your will; you will be one with all things.
"Any creature?"
Yes, any creature.
"Including you?"
Of course, including me.
"Does that include him?"
Yes, it includes him.
"No matter what I ask him to do, he won't refuse?"
Correct. As long as you find him, you will be the king of this world, and no one can defy you... not even him.
"Then I can have him?"
As long as you wish, he will be yours alone.
The girl giggled, her laughter bright and innocent.
"Really?"
Of course.
"Then what are we waiting for?"
I am with you, Your Highness.
She laughed joyfully and innocently, no longer hesitating. Completely entranced by that voice, she walked toward the city below.
In the Abandoned Solitary City, there were no signs of human Survivors left; only Zombies wandered aimlessly.
A foul stench hung in the air, causing one to frown.
It was the odor from the underground water leaking after the drainage system had collapsed, mixed with the smell of too many decaying objects in the city... and of course, there was also the strange odor from the Zombies who never bathed.
Yet the girl seemed completely unconcerned.
She laughed happily, innocently, as if she were about to embrace the entire world. Following the guidance of that voice, she gradually walked deeper into the city.
There, she found a peculiar lake.
The water was not the usual transparent blue. Instead, it was a strange bloody color, yet its quality was no different from ordinary lake water.
Moreover, once the water left the lake, it would return to its normal clear transparency; only within the lake did it appear like flowing blood.
After research, humans attributed this phenomenon to some kind of mineral at the bottom of the lake.
But the girl knew that all of that was wrong.
This was the Blood Pool, merely waiting for its master to arrive.
Until then, it would remain silent, revealing no abnormalities—until her arrival.
The water began to bubble gradually, and as she approached, it started to surge restlessly, no longer maintaining its previous calmness.
The girl exclaimed in surprise.
"It's afraid... Cthulhu, it's afraid!"
That voice echoed softly, accompanied by a chilling laugh that revealed the reason.
No, my lady, it is simply excited.
"But it's trembling. Was it afraid of my arrival?"
No, no, my lady, please do not misunderstand. It is just too thrilled and excited to see its master; shouldn't it be happy?
The girl felt a bit confused but ultimately chose to believe that voice as she always had.
She smiled lightly, playfully scooping up a handful of lake water, watching as the crimson liquid gradually seeped into her skin. It seemed to tickle her, and she couldn't help but giggle.
"It's so ticklish... Cthulhu. It's scratching me."
The voice laughed softly, eerily, revealing to her.
"Am I dreaming? My lady, it is merely welcoming your arrival; it likes you very much."
Under the allure of that presence, the girl had no doubts left. She chuckled softly and plunged her hands into the lake.
Suddenly, the lake, resembling a Blood Pool, began to tremble violently, desperately trying to escape. Yet, under an invisible pull, it could not flee, only disappearing bit by bit into the girl’s body.
Gradually, the water level of the Blood Pool began to recede, and the surrounding plants started to wither as if losing their vitality along with the vanishing water.
But the girl paid no mind… or perhaps she simply did not notice.
Her eyes were filled with joy as she watched the blood-colored lake water being absorbed into her body, giggling with delight.
"How wonderful, Cthulhu! They seem so happy; I can feel their intense trembling… So they really like me that much?"
The voice laughed even more strangely.
"Yes, my lady, they are very happy. To become a part of your power is their honor; they are overwhelmed with joy."
"That's great."
The girl sighed in relief, smiling innocently. "I was worried they might reject me."
"Reject? No, no. To be a part of you is their honor and happiness; how could they ever reject you?"
"That would truly be wonderful."
"Yes, it's wonderful... heh heh... truly wonderful, isn't it?"
"Of course not." A cold voice suddenly echoed in this city of Silence.
The girl turned around in shock, seeing a strange figure standing not far away, looking at her with a chilling gaze. "Chu Dongling, are you really willing to succumb to the Evil God's temptations and fall into depravity? Not even a hint of resistance?"
The girl was taken aback.
"You know me?"
The figure nodded coldly.
The girl was astonished. "Then... Chu Dongling... is that my name?"
"Of course."
The figure continued to stare at her coldly and shook its head. "Have you even forgotten your own name? How pathetic." (To be continued)
