It was a word that carried a bitter taste.

Even the strongest Zombies could not withstand a fully armed human army; they could only retreat.
The future of humanity reclaiming this wasteland world seemed to be just around the corner.
That bright and beautiful future was what all humans in the apocalypse earnestly hoped for, and it was the driving force that propelled many to this point.
But had it truly come to an end?
Chu Donglin instinctively clenched his right hand and slowly exhaled.
He felt exhausted and weary.
"I'm a bit tired..."
After uttering this sentence, he leaned back and collapsed onto the Barren Land, even dropping the sword from his hand. "Let me sleep for a while... just a little while..."
Muttering these words, Chu Donglin's consciousness sank completely into an endless darkness.

The dream was deep and heavy; in the darkness, nothing was visible, as if he were isolated from the entire world.
In a haze, strange images began to materialize before him.
The Barren Land, an infinite starry sky, twisted monsters, the roaring Evil God, abandoned planets... sights he had never seen before appeared one after another before him, only to vanish swiftly without leaving anything behind.
The Dark World had almost become a palette of limitless possibilities, allowing for strokes of imagination to be applied freely.
Countless things that Dodo had never seen or heard of emerged one by one, intruding boldly into his line of sight, leaving him no way to escape.
He sat quietly in the center of the darkness, silently observing the images drifting past him, not uttering a word. He seemed to have become a solitary statue.
Eventually, among the scenes that flickered around him like Light Barriers, a familiar blue planet appeared within his view. The contours of the land and mountains were shapes he recognized.
This time, the man's eyes moved slightly, instinctively glancing toward the Light Barrier.
Then, more familiar sights began to emerge on the Light Barriers flashing around him.
Primal forests, Barren Lands, ferocious Saber-toothed Tigers, massive Mammoths… and humans brandishing wooden spears as they raced across the wilderness to hunt other animals.
Unlike the humans that Chu Donglin was familiar with, those appearing in the Light Barriers were stronger, more powerful… and more primitive.
They wore only scraps of fur that barely covered a few areas. The majority of their skin was exposed to the sun, tanned dark from its rays.
As more Light Barriers flashed before his eyes, these primitive humans gradually learned more and became aware of greater things.
They built their structures in various places such as mountains, plains, and riverbanks, only to have them toppled in wars, then rebuilt again. Many died; more appeared. The roles of other animals diminished over time until nearly all the Light Barriers were filled with these humans.
Sturdy houses. Massive armies. An increasingly powerful race. They compressed the living space of other beings.
Then the architectural styles of those buildings grew increasingly familiar, drawing closer to the structures the man knew. Eventually, they truly constructed vast cities.
The neon lights of the street flickered with enchanting brilliance under the night sky, illuminating the city in a dazzling glow.
At that moment, an enchanting figure appeared within the light barrier.
She wore a form-fitting qipao that accentuated her alluring curves. With every movement, she exuded a charm potent enough to disrupt the entire world.
She traversed mountains and crossed seas, traveling across the earth… or perhaps observing it.
Inside the light barrier, she was watching everything in this human world. The half of her face concealed by a fan occasionally revealed an intriguing smile, as if the observations before her were quite amusing.
At one moment, a woman walking down a street suddenly looked up, her gaze directed straight at the light barrier, seemingly locking eyes with a man.
Then she covered her mouth and let out a soft laugh, stepping directly out of the light barrier. She swayed gracefully toward the man, becoming the second living being in this dark world besides him.
"My dear fellow, how are you feeling right now?"
The woman giggled, sizing up the man's expression as if she were examining an interesting piece of art. "I can sense it; you're feeling quite lost… What happened?"
In the darkness, Chu Donglin looked up, coldly regarding this familiar woman without any hint of nostalgia.
"Acha, you really are relentless… Even in death, you continue to haunt me. Is this another image you left behind in life?"
Acha smiled lightly and shrugged. "Pretty much. Like the other images I've left behind, they're all one-time use; once they're gone, they disappear."
Chu Donglin coldly stared at her and asked, "How many more of these images are there?"
“It's over now; what you see is the last one... unless something unexpected happens.”
Acha chuckled, completely unfazed by Chu Donglin's cold reaction. “What’s wrong? Do you really dislike me that much? You won’t even look at my image?”
Chu Donglin took a deep breath, showing no signs of warmth towards her.
“Every time I see the image you leave behind, it means I’m in trouble again... and not just any trouble. Like the Evil God, or the Zombie Completion Plan... these are disasters that can’t be solved easily.”
Acha giggled unconsciously, patting Chu Donglin on the shoulder as if to comfort him. “Don’t be like that! After all, you’re the man chosen by my Nyarlathotep, my carefully selected heir. Can’t you have a bit of courage and confidence? What’s a little trouble? You’ve come this far, defeating both Eldritch God Hastur and Cthulhu, accomplishing things even I couldn’t do. You should be happy about that; stop sulking... come on, smile!”
Chu Donglin pushed her hand away and took a step back.
“Cthulhu and Hastur died because of your schemes; I merely played a supporting role. In fact, anyone you chose as your heir could have killed Hastur and Cthulhu as long as they followed your plan... right?”
Acha laughed lightly, countering his point with ease.
“Killing is one thing, but doing it so decisively and quickly is not something everyone can achieve. Chu Donglin, my dear man, your wisdom and determination are impressive even to me.”
“To resist the temptation of the Zombie Completion Plan and not let yourself be controlled by desire to absorb that immense power, but instead use it to slay the Evil God... you’re quite remarkable. You should know that the energy formed from the essence of viruses from zombies worldwide is an irresistible temptation for any zombie, yet you managed to do it... don’t you feel proud of that, Chu Donglin?”
Chu Donglin looked at her coldly. “You must have something else for me to do; there’s no need to waste time. You know I can’t refuse... no matter how difficult it may be.”
Acha burst into laughter.
“Chu Donglin, you’re so impatient! Can’t a girl just want to chat with the man she likes? Although Cthulhu is quite a troublesome fellow, no enemy can stop me from talking with you a little longer, right? The future is long; why worry about every little gain or loss? Remember, you are no longer just human Chu Donglin; you are now the immortal Great Old One Nyarlathotep.”
"From now on, your lifespan will be infinite and immortal. The distances of time and space will no longer be obstacles for you; the changes of the world will merely be a fragment of your observation. You will walk among the stars, watching the rise and fall of celestial bodies, traversing the infinite loneliness and solitude towards eternity... Your future is destined to have countless moments to waste, so why bother with the gains or losses of this minute or second?"
Chu Donglin furrowed his brow. "Immortal?"
Acha smiled and nodded. "Yes."
"Eternal life?"
Acha continued to smile. "Naturally."
"So my goal this time is that not-yet-extinct Cthulhu, which possesses the means to attain immortality... for my loved ones?"
Acha laughed joyfully. "That's right, man, you're very clever to guess the answer directly... Yes, your ultimate enemy is that not-yet-extinct Cthulhu. It holds the secret for ordinary beings to achieve immortality. If you don't want to watch your friends and family grow old and die one by one in a hundred years, leaving you in eternal solitude, then you must kill it and take everything it has."
Seeing Chu Donglin's tightly furrowed brow, Acha added with a smile, "You have no other choice." (To be continued)
