With a gentle inquiry from Chu Donglin, the girl gazed at his face, lost in thought for a long while.
Then she raised her hand and pointed in a direction within the base.
"Can you accompany me there?"
She looked at Chu Donglin and softly said, "I want to see the stars."
Chu Donglin smiled and nodded, agreeing without any hesitation.
"Sure, let's go together."
He paid no mind to the overcast night sky above them, which held not a single star.
The girl was pointing towards the tallest building in the base.
That was the Watchtower, constructed at the beginning of the base's establishment to prevent large-scale Zombie attacks.
Standing over two hundred meters tall, the Watchtower was a striking structure that pierced the sky like a sharp spear, towering above the surrounding low-rise buildings of four or five stories.
On this festive night, there were no signs of guards around.
After all, with the rapid development of the base and the suppression of nearby Zombie threats, humanity no longer had to fear being overwhelmed by a Zombie Sea.
Thus, this Watchtower, originally built to fend off large-scale Zombie assaults, gradually became more of an ornament, with almost no one left to man it.
By the time they reached the base of the tower, the clock's hands pointed to thirty-five minutes past.
Although the base was still lit tonight, truly a city that never sleeps, the streets were already much less crowded, almost desolate.
People's energy is always limited; they cannot celebrate endlessly.
So when Chu Donglin brought Yumo Sha to the foot of the tower, what they saw was an empty and bleak street, with no one stationed there.
Chu Donglin smiled lightly and gently pushed open the large door of the tower, leading the girl inside.
Naturally, the latch was already broken.
However, it seemed that neither of them heard the sound of the latch breaking. Hand in hand, like a real couple, they quietly slipped into the Dark Tower.
The staircase leading up was a spiral, continuously winding upward, and looking up could make one feel a bit dizzy.
As they stepped onto this staircase that had not been walked on for a long time, their fingers tightly intertwined, they climbed toward the top floor.
It was as if two young and playful lovers were sneaking in for a romantic adventure.

When they finally reached the rooftop and leaned against the railing of the tall tower, they beheld a magnificent view.
At a height of one hundred seventy-six meters above the ground, the ordinary winds had transformed into a fierce gale by the time they reached this altitude.
As the cold wind from that Winter Night blew towards them, it tousled their hair and puffed out their clothes. It felt as if they could be swept away by the wild gusts at any moment.
Standing here, the entire night view of the base unfolded before their eyes. They could see the flickering lights of countless homes in the darkness, shimmering within the confines of the base.
The windows appeared almost blurred, reduced to mere outlines from a distance, resembling a series of thin grids.
Beyond the base, in the desolate wilderness, the view extended even further. The uninhabited land was blanketed in pristine white snow, reflecting a faint glow even in the night, as if it covered the entire ground and stretched to the horizon.
Several towering peaks stood alone in the wilderness, isolated without companions.
In the distance, rolling mountains continued on endlessly, seemingly stretching to the farthest edges of sight.
In another direction, atop this narrow plain among the mountains, a cluster of dark buildings could be seen. In the night, they resembled a cold and eerie ghost town, devoid of any signs of human activity.
That place was once home to humanity here; it was also the city where a boy and a girl had grown up in the tower.
That place was Wangcheng.
Suddenly, the girl let out a loud scream.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
The series of screams was quickly scattered by the fierce wind, likely reduced to a faint sound akin to a mosquito's buzz by the time it reached the ground, blending into other noises unnoticed by anyone.
On top of the tower, Chu Donglin looked at the girl who had suddenly screamed and smiled. He did not mock her for this seemingly childish behavior.
He released her hand and leaned against the railing, maintaining a posture that seemed ready to tumble over at any moment, smiling as he asked.
“Aren't you supposed to be showing me the stars? Where are they now? I can't see a single one.”
Tonight was a snowy night, with thick clouds obscuring the sky, and when he looked up, all he could see was a pitch-black expanse, devoid of any starlight.
However, when Chu Donglin asked his question, the girl burst into laughter, unabashedly pointing at herself.
“Isn't that me?”
She proudly pointed to herself, grinning as she said, “Standing right in front of you is Qianzhou's brightest star, Sister Yumo Sha. Shouldn't you express some excitement about being so close to her?”
Chu Donglin couldn't help but laugh.
“Sorry, I'm just too excited; my face has gone numb from it. I can't muster any more excitement.”
The girl shot him a glare but then happily leaned on the railing, gazing joyfully at the distant nightscape while swinging her legs in delight.
“I'll let you off this time.”
The cold wind blew from all directions, tousling her hair and dress in a chaotic dance.
Yet she rested her chin on her hands atop the railing, seemingly oblivious to the chill.
“Hey… Donglin Brother, can I ask you a question?”
“Hmm? What question?”
"Did you ever like me?"
"Isn't that obvious? Why ask?"
"I want you to say it! Out loud!"
The girl frowned and huffed. "What kind of answer is that? I want you to say the words 'I love you.'"
Chu Donglin glanced at her, shaking his head with a smile, as if he had been defeated by her.
"Fine, I like you... Is that enough?"
Seeing that Chu Donglin's final answer was only "I like you" instead of what she had asked for, "I love you," the girl's expression darkened.
However, she quickly brightened up again.
"Then how are you going to prove it?"
"Prove what?"
"Prove that you like me," the girl said with a look of certainty. "You can't just say it without any evidence. How can anyone believe you? Liking someone is about actions, not just words."
"Alright then... What do you want me to do?"
The girl giggled and jumped up, wrapping her arms tightly around Chu Donglin.
In the air, one hundred seventy-six meters above the ground, she happily embraced the man she liked, standing on her tiptoes and tilting her face up to look at him, grinning as she said, "I want you to kiss me."
Chu Donglin looked at her in silence for a few seconds before smiling and nodding.
"Alright."
Then he leaned down and kissed her.
A cold breeze swept by, lifting the girl’s smooth long hair and obscuring their faces behind it.
It was only after half a minute that Chu Donglin gently released the girl from his embrace, licking his dry lips as he looked at her and smiled.
"Is this okay?"
The girl's eyes sparkled with emotion, glistening like spring water.
She didn’t answer. Instead, she tightened her arms around Chu Donglin's neck, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him again.
Their lips met softly, and then the playful girl boldly extended her tongue, intertwining it with Chu Donglin's in a passionate dance.
Her hands clung tightly to his neck as her body gently rubbed against him, seemingly savoring the taste of her lover.
This time, they kissed for a long while.
When they finally pulled apart, both of their lips felt dry.
Seeing the girl’s flushed face, Chu Donglin suddenly burst into laughter.
"You just bit me."
The girl blushed and glared at him. "It's not like I care! How could you bring that up?"
"But you bit me really hard," he replied.
"Then I can just let you bite me back, right? Come on... open your mouth."
Surprisingly, the girl leaned in again and stuck out her pink tongue. "Go ahead and bite."
Chu Donglin laughed as he pushed her away, shaking his head.
"I give up. I won't mention it anymore, okay?"
The girl let out a triumphant hum, smiling as she retracted her tongue.
"Now that's more like it."
She didn't come closer again but leaned against the railing at the edge of the tower, looking at Chu Donglin with a cheerful expression.
"So, Donglin Brother, how long do you plan to stay at Wangcheng Base? You should go visit Uncle and Aunt in Jiang Hai, right?"
Chu Donglin shrugged. "I'll be leaving in a few days."
He then looked at the girl across from him. "Aren't you coming with me?"
She shook her head with a smile. "No, I can't go."
After that, she fell silent.
Chu Donglin fell silent as well.
Thus, atop this tower, more than a hundred meters above the ground, an inexplicable silence enveloped them, with only the sound of the wind whistling in their ears.
After a long pause, the girl turned around and gazed at the myriad lights of the base below. Then she glanced at the watch on her wrist and suddenly broke into a smile.
"Unknowingly, it's already midnight."
She turned back to look at Chu Donglin, her smile brightening her face.
"I had a wonderful time tonight... Get up, I haven't been this happy in a long while."
"Ever since leaving Wangcheng..."
She quietly regarded Chu Donglin, as if she had transformed into a different person. Her smile was elegant and subtle, no longer the wild and lively demeanor she had shown before.
Her eyes were filled with a gentle warmth and sweet affection.
