"My dear son... is there anyone in this world who loves you more than I do?" 0

The moment the woman's voice fell, Chu Donglin's body stiffened. 0

His pupils suddenly constricted, as an invisible force bound him, rendering him unable to move. 0

He instinctively tried to struggle, but his Mental Power seemed to freeze in mid-air, no longer under his control. 0

Thus, he could only watch helplessly as the woman before him kissed him and gently pried open his teeth with her tongue. 0

A cool sensation rolled down his throat. 0

He looked at the woman in shock and anger, yet he could do nothing; even his voice was trapped in his throat. 0

He watched as that pale, frail face drew closer, feeding him something cold. 0

The moment the icy object rolled into his stomach, Chu Donglin's body trembled violently, and his vision blurred for a moment. 0

He saw something... 0

A massive monster roared upwards against the backdrop of the Desolate Wilderness, where three strange moons hung in the night sky. 0

One red, one purple, and the last a ghastly green—completely different from the moon Chu Donglin knew. 0

The howling winds over the barren land were chilling and sinister, offering no hint of friendliness. 0

As the black gale swept in, the enormous monster let out a roar, its gigantic tentacles striking out toward the wind. 0

A bizarre howl echoed from the storm, resembling the roar of a beast. 0

The cacophony of wind was harsh and grating. Yet, amidst it all, Chu Donglin seemed to grasp something faintly. 0

Then, from that boundless starry sky descended a blinding pillar of fire. It came with a terrifying heat that scorched toward the massive creature. 0

Standing on the ground of the Desolate Wilderness, a monstrous creature with enormous Tentacles roared in fury, trapped in the midst of fire and wind's power. 0

"Did you see something, my dear son?" 0

The gentle voice of a woman suddenly pulled Chu Donglin from that illusion. 0

His consciousness cleared, and as he looked at the woman before him, he instinctively reached out and grasped her neck. 0

The woman did not resist. 0

She opened her arms, smiling as if she were embracing the entire earth, allowing Chu Donglin to lift her by the throat. 0

Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. 0

Yet her smile grew even more enchanting. She seemed completely oblivious to her injury, continuing to inquire about Chu Donglin's impressions. 0

"My dear son, how do you feel? Have you seen something wonderful?" 0

Chu Donglin merely stared coldly at her, slowly stroking his abdomen. 0

Within his stomach, he could feel that cold substance had been completely digested and was spreading throughout his limbs. 0

A sense of foreboding began to creep into his heart. 0

"What did you feed me?" 0

The woman chuckled softly. 0

"My final legacy... Isn't it touching? I traveled thousands of miles back with my severely injured body just to give you this sole inheritance." 0

"Inheritance? What inheritance?" 0

Chu Donglin looked at her coldly, maintaining just enough pressure to avoid choking her but not letting her feel comfortable. "What exactly has gotten into you? Who gave you the right to call yourself my elder? Are you out of your mind?" 0

The woman gazed dreamily at his face, unable to resist reaching out to caress his cheek. She murmured, "Why can't I call myself your elder? My dear son, if it weren't for my existence, do you really think you could maintain your sanity amidst the corrosion of the virus?" 0

Chu Donglin's gaze was icy, as if he were looking at a madwoman. 0

"You've lost it." 0

"Heh... maybe so. Perhaps I have truly gone mad, and maybe all of this is just an illusion of mine, mere ramblings of a lunatic... Heh... how wonderful it would be to be mad; then I wouldn't have to face such a despairing future." 0

She chuckled softly, her intoxicated eyes gazing tenderly at Chu Donglin, more fervent than those of a lover. 0

"There are times when I can hardly tell anymore—am I that human from Earth, Acha? Or am I the monster Nyarlathotep from legends... Heh... my dear son, can you tell me the answer?" 0

Chu Donglin continued to look at her coldly, his expression unfriendly. 0

"What exactly did you make me eat?" 0

"Just a little something... you'll understand its benefits soon enough." 0

The woman smiled slightly, like a great woman who gives without seeking anything in return, gently caressing Chu Donglin's cheek. 0

"You are my continuation of life. Although I am not your mother, I have put in a lot of effort for you to become a Zombie with retained intelligence. So shouldn't you repay me in some way?" 0

She laughed softly, tenderly stroking Chu Donglin's cheek as she murmured, "When you have the chance to go to Jiang Hai, please take care of those fellows for me. Those fellows have weakened significantly now; I believe you can kill them and avenge me." 0

After a pause, she smiled mysteriously. 0

"Of course, I believe you will definitely help me eliminate those fellows... Even for the future of this world, you wouldn't hesitate for a moment. You are just that kind of person—never shying away from your responsibilities and eliminating all threats in their cradle. In this regard, you surpass me greatly; that's why I chose you as my heir." 0

Blood began to surge from the woman's chest like a dam breaking. 0

The pure white snow on the street was quickly melted and stained red by warm blood, and then the woman lifted by Chu Donglin became rigid. 0

A mysterious smile lingered on her face as she gradually lost all breath, turning into a stiff corpse. 0

Chu Donglin remained silent for several seconds before setting her body down. 0

Behind him, Xing'er and Xue gathered around, a mix of concern and confusion on their faces. 0

“Dad. Who is this woman?” 0

“Brother-in-law. Did she do anything to you?” 0

Xue was the only one who did not ask a question. She stepped forward to Chu Donglin, bending down to examine the woman's lifeless body. 0

Then she pulled out a severed Tentacle from the woman's abdomen. 0

The severed Tentacle was smooth and greasy, disturbingly grotesque, resembling the limbs of an Octopus. 0

What was even stranger was that this Tentacle had clearly been residing in Acha's abdomen for quite some time, yet it continued to twitch as if it had a life of its own. 0

As Xue extracted it from Acha's wound, the Tentacle even jumped around like a lively fish. 0

With a soft squeeze, Xue accidentally crushed it. 0

Looking at the writhing Tentacle in her hand that twitched once before going still, she blankly raised her head, innocently gazing at Chu Donglin as if it were not her fault. 0

Chu Donglin shook his head in disbelief and picked up the Tentacle. 0

Acha's fatal wound was located only in one place: the left side of her chest where the Heart was. 0

She didn't even know how she had managed to walk this far despite her severe injuries—especially with a broken Tentacle still lodged inside her. 0

Chu Donglin understood that this Tentacle must have been left in her chest cavity when the enemy that had injured Acha pierced her body. 0

Yet, even a severed part of her body could possess such tenacious vitality... 0

Chu Donglin furrowed his brows tightly. 0

He thought of many things. 0

Jiang Hai, the virus, the illusions Acha had shown him... all of it made the situation seem increasingly perplexing. 0

A sense of urgency filled his heart; he wanted to go to Jiang Hai. 0

He had a gut feeling that within the largest city in all of China lay the answers he sought. 0

Perhaps he could find the origin of the Zombies there. 0

... 0

... 0

"Are you an enemy of Big Brother? Do you want to deal with him?" 0

The girl asked cautiously, and the old man sighed. "Am I his enemy? How could that be? That fellow, although a Third-Stage Zombie, is hardly worth my attention." 0

Seeing the girl's skeptical expression, Ban Guozhi shrugged and continued. 0

"To be honest, while a Third-Stage Zombie might be considered formidable anywhere else in the world, around Jiang Hai, they are merely slightly stronger cannon fodder. The enemies we face are often Fourth Tier or even Fifth-Stage Zombies." 0

"Among the hordes of Zombies that flood in, Second-Stage Zombies are countless, and Third-Stage Zombies can barely be regarded as relatively strong individuals. Without Fourth Tier strength, they don’t even qualify to be targeted by Artillery. The situation around Jiang Hai is far more chaotic than you can imagine." 0

Facing Ban Guozhi's words, the girl curled her lips and snorted. 0

"Sure, I believe you... If Jiang Hai is really as terrifying as you say, then why are you all still in Jiang Hai? If you're not afraid of Fourth Tier Fifth-Stage Zombies, you could easily go to other places outside of Jiang Hai to conquer cities and live in a safer environment. Why stay here and fight a bunch of Fifth-Stage Zombies?" 0

The girl pointed out the flaws in Ban Guozhi's argument with sharp precision, but the old man remained unfazed. 0

He shrugged and pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, taking one out and lighting it. 0

As he took a deep drag, he was about to exhale when he noticed the girl looking at him with disdain. 0

"Smoking in front of a patient? Grandpa, you're really something!" 0

Ban Guozhi coughed awkwardly, nearly choking on the smoke from her remark. 0

He coughed uncomfortably, unsure whether to exhale or hold it in. Ultimately, he rushed outside to expel the smoke from his lungs and then tossed the freshly lit cigarette butt into the snow before returning. 0

"Girl, I have to hand it to you. You're just like Ya— a mischievous little devil. I was fooled by your appearance." (To be continued...) 0
