For Liushan Shu, this lifetime spent in Wocheng was a journey from nothing to building his own empire step by step, becoming the true tycoon of Wocheng, facing countless life-and-death crises along the way.
Indeed, within Wocheng, he had never feared anyone.
Before the apocalypse arrived, with his status and connections, anyone who wanted to touch him had to think twice.
In all of Wocheng, Liushan Shu was practically untouchable; no one could ignore his words.
However, the man before him was one of the last people Liushan Shu ever wanted to see.
"You really are a persistent ghost, Chu Donglin!"
Watching the man approach step by step from the stairs below, Liushan Shu snorted coldly, his expression far from pleasant.
He had not expected that the companion who returned with his daughter would be this fellow, catching him completely off guard.
Initially, upon hearing the news of his daughter's return, he had set aside everything and rushed out excitedly.
But from a distance, he spotted Chu Donglin's figure and was instantly filled with disgust.
"The zombies couldn't kill you; you really are one lucky fellow... What? Even at a time like this, you dare to show up in front of me? Aren't you afraid I'll take you down?"
In stark contrast to Liushan Shu's unyielding expression, Chu Donglin smiled brightly.
"Liushan Shu, oh Liushan Shu, you really are incorrigible. Even now you're so full of yourself? But without the Liu Group backing you, you're just a toothless wild dog. What do you plan to use to take me down? That foul-mouthed old mouth of yours?"
Chu Donglin continued, sizing up Liushan Shu on the stairs. He shook his head and laughed. "Besides, instead of sparring with me, you should focus on healing your wounds... Tsk... You look so sickly; did a High-Level Zombie attack you? At your age, half your body is already in the grave. Stop thinking about charging into battle like others; otherwise, you might not know when you'll die. This time someone managed to save you in time; next time you might not be so lucky. When you're lying dead in the streets, don't expect anyone to come collect your body."
"Bah! With your character, I wouldn't shed a tear even if your whole family died. No need for your concern."
Amidst the malicious laughter, Liushan Shu spat and retorted, "And don't act like your Kaiyuan Corporation is still thriving. Aren't you just a lonely outcast now? At least I've established a large camp with over a thousand people under my command... How dare you mock me? What achievements do you have to show for yourself?"
Caught in the crossfire of their heated exchange, the girl felt powerless.
"Dad! Brother-in-law! Can you two stop arguing every time you meet? We're all family; can't we be a little more harmonious?"
"Bah! Who's family with him?"
The girl's attempt at mediation was met with identical responses from the two men.
Liushan Shu coldly scoffed, "What brother-in-law? Xing'er, don’t call him that. Does this kind of man even deserve to be your brother-in-law? He’s not worthy of your sister, and Meng Ying has already broken up with him. They have nothing to do with each other now, so don’t call him brother-in-law anymore... Do you hear me?"
Meanwhile, Zhou Jing and Chen Xu, who were accompanying them, were thoroughly intimidated by Liushan Shu's current demeanor. They stood quietly to the side, afraid to speak.
It was the first time they had seen Mr. Liu so furious. Clearly, this Chu Donglin was not only an old acquaintance but also someone with whom he had a rather unpleasant history.
Fearing that they might inadvertently provoke Liushan Shu further, both of them quietly shrank back, trying to minimize their presence, even hesitating to mention their rewards.
However, no matter how silent they remained, it was impossible for two living people to be completely ignored.
After reprimanding Liu Xiner, Liushan Shu turned his attention to the two men, his expression softening considerably.
"You two are Chen Xu and Zhou Jing, right? You did well this time bringing Xing'er back safely. Naturally, I will reward you as promised."
With that, Liushan Shu glanced at the portly man who had been following closely behind him like a bodyguard.
"Dayou, take these two to the warehouse to get some chocolate. I'll handle things here."
The hefty man named Pan Dayou hesitated as he glanced at Chu Donglin on the steps, worry etched across his face. "Mr. Liu, about your injury..."
Liushan Shu waved his hand dismissively, signaling that it was nothing to worry about.
"It's fine, just go ahead. I'm okay. This is our camp after all, and this kid isn't the reckless type; he won't act rashly. Besides, even if he did want to do something, would I just stand here and let him kill me? Although I'm injured, I'm not someone who can be easily dealt with by a couple of insignificant pests."
With a confident tone, Liushan Shu spoke, while White Wolf, who had been huddled next to Chu Donglin, disdainfully shook his head and wiped his face with a paw, seemingly unimpressed by the overly self-assured human.
Once Pan Dayou left with Chen Xu and Zhou Jing, Liushan Shu turned his attention to Chu Donglin and White Wolf on the steps.
"Come in."
He stepped aside, indicating for them to enter the room for a more detailed discussion.
However, Chu Donglin shrugged and took two steps back. "I only brought Xing'er here to see you and to check if you were still alive. I have no interest in chatting with a smelly old fellow like you, so don't get any ideas."
Chu Donglin's provocation ignited Liushan Shu's anger.
"Chu! Is this how your family teaches you? Is this how your parents raised you to treat your elders?"
As Liushan Shu roared, Chu Donglin sneered repeatedly.
"My family's upbringing is certainly good, but my parents only taught me how to be polite to my elders; they never taught me to be courteous to an old dog with no teeth."
Chu Donglin's mockery directly ignited Liushan Shu's fury.
"Chu Donglin!"
The middle-aged man let out an angry roar, "You're asking for death!"
With Liushan Shu's roar, fierce flames suddenly appeared out of nowhere, transforming into a scorching Inferno in the air, heading straight towards Chu Donglin at the bottom of the stairs.
However, from the nearby observation lake, icy cold water surged up, forming a wall of water right in front of Chu Donglin. All the flames that rushed forward splashed against this water wall, and at the moment of contact, the high temperature scorched the water droplets, creating white steam that rose into the air.
A thin mist enveloped the area around the stairs, dampening the hair of the three individuals.
As the mist slowly dissipated, Chu Donglin still wore a calm and relaxed smile, while Liushan Shu on the stairs had a face as dark as thunder.
"Good! Good! Good!"
Three consecutive "goods" reflected Liushan Shu's terrible mood.
"Chu, you really are an old specialist at annoying me. Back in Wocheng, your Kaiyuan Corporation was always at odds with me, and with Secretary Wang backing you up, I couldn't do anything about it."
"Who would have thought that now in this apocalypse, with Wang dead, you've found a new ally... Hmph... I didn't expect you to have superpowers too. No wonder you're so full of confidence... Is your superpower controlling water? Just perfect to counter my fire?"
With a cold snort from Liushan Shu, Chu Donglin wore a faintly mocking smile and curled his lips.
"Don't flatter yourself, old man. Who's interested in clashing with an old dog like you? My Ability isn't even water control. What do you mean it's countering your fire? Don't get ahead of yourself. Just looking at someone like you makes me feel sick; let alone getting involved with you."
Saying this, Chu Donglin pushed the girl beside him up the stairs.
"By the way, I came to find you because Xing'er asked me to. Otherwise, do you think I want to see you? Since you're doing well now, I'll leave Xing'er with you for a while. Once I handle my matters over here, I'll come back to take her away. After all, you're an injured old fellow; it wouldn't be right for me to just take Xing'er away without letting her care for you a bit until you're healed."
"Take away Xing'er?"
Liu Shan Shu's eyes narrowed slightly, a sense of foreboding flashing through his mind at the hidden implications in Chu Donglin's words.
He looked coldly at Chu Donglin standing at the bottom of the steps and asked icily, "On what grounds do you think you can take Xing'er away? What right do you have to take her? Are you joking, Chu? How could Xing'er possibly go with you?"
"Hahaha... Whether Xing'er is willing to go with me is not for you to decide, but for her to decide."
After saying this, Chu Donglin glanced at the girl on the steps who was caught in a dilemma, his gentle gaze reassuring her. "It's okay, Xing'er. You just stay here and take care of your father for a while. I'll come back to pick you up once I finish dealing with things."
He then looked at the backpack on the girl's back and added, "Just remember not to lose the walkie-talkie that Sister Qingya gave you. I'll check in on your news from time to time. Don't worry about me; just stay here peacefully. I'll be back soon."
With Chu Donglin's current strength, he couldn't overpower most Zombies with ease. Living in the Zombie Sea with a girl like Shishi was already dangerous enough; he didn't want Liu Xiner to take on that risk as well.
After all, Shishi had no choice in the matter, and Chu Donglin didn't feel comfortable entrusting her to other human Survivors.
Currently, Liu Shan Shu's camp was far from the city center and incredibly safe. With strong defenses in place, it was naturally much safer for Liu Xiner to stay here than to follow him.
Moreover, given that Liu Shan Shu was seriously injured, not allowing Liu Xiner to stay by his side while he recovered would likely lead her to regret it for a lifetime if something happened later. So after much consideration, Chu Donglin ultimately decided it was best for the girl to remain temporarily.
After all, with his strength, even within this Survivor camp of over a thousand people, taking anyone away would not be difficult. Liu Shan Shu would be unable to stop him, and he wasn't worried that Liu Shan Shu would hold onto her and refuse to let him take her away. (To be continued...)
