When Chu Donglin brought Liu Xiner downstairs, the battered White Wolf had already recovered.
The fur that had been corroded and tattered had regrown, and the wounds had healed. At first glance, White Wolf appeared to be back to its majestic self, no longer resembling the pitiful creature it once was.
However, the price for White Wolf's recovery was the more than ten headless corpses lying before it.
These corpses were all Mutated Zombies. White Wolf had directly bitten through their skulls and swallowed their crystals, using the energy from the Evolution Crystals to mend its injuries.
In the world of Zombies, hierarchy was strict; Low-Level Zombies could hardly resist the oppression of High-Level Zombies—even when it came to being consumed.
Upon seeing Chu Donglin appear, White Wolf let out a low growl and lumbered over with its massive body.
Just like when Snow was first captured, White Wolf remained somewhat sensitive to the scent of living beings. Although it did not pounce on Chu Donglin under his control, it showed signs of agitation towards the human girl beside him.
“If you dare harm a single hair on Xing'er, I swear I’ll take you down, do you believe me?”
With narrowed eyes, Chu Donglin threatened the creature and patted its enormous paw.
“You can change your size at will, right? Come on, show me how big you can get.”
Faced with the towering White Wolf that stood over three meters tall, Chu Donglin could only reach out to touch its paw.
Recalling how he had discovered that White Wolf could freely change its size, he couldn't help but wonder just how large this fellow could become.
After receiving the command, White Wolf let out a roar. Its body began to shake violently. At the same time, it emitted painful howls. Its surface twisted and undulated like waves.
Clearly, while this White Wolf could indeed shrink or expand at will, the process seemed unpleasant for it—perhaps even painful.
Ten minutes later, as he looked at the now cat-sized White Wolf before him, Chu Donglin burst into laughter.
The once imposing White Wolf, resembling a mythical beast, now appeared more like a white fox, exuding an adorable charm. The aura of dominance had completely vanished.
This stark contrast made even Liu Xiner unable to suppress a light chuckle.
Confused by the laughter of Chu Donglin and Liu Xiner, White Wolf couldn't quite grasp the humor; its limited intelligence left it baffled by human jokes.
After a moment of laughter, Chu Donglin crouched down and patted White Wolf on the head.
"Alright, you can grow bigger... but since you're going to be our mode of transportation, there's no need to become too large. A size like before would be inconvenient. Do you see that abandoned car over there? You should aim to be about that big."
Pointing at a dilapidated vehicle at the edge of the area, Chu Donglin gestured for White Wolf to transform into that size.
After some communication between the two zombies, White Wolf finally understood Chu Donglin's instructions and began to expand.
Compared to its previous transformation, White Wolf grew much faster this time and did not emit any painful howls; it seemed that the process was not agonizing at all.
Two minutes later, looking at the White Wolf now roughly the size of a sedan, Chu Donglin nodded in satisfaction.
"This size should be able to carry four people comfortably, right?"
With that, Chu Donglin picked up Liu Xiner and jumped onto White Wolf's back, commanding it to move away from the area.
White Wolf's back was quite comfortable; its thick, shiny fur felt plush like a cushion.
However, both Chu Donglin and Liu Xiner found riding such a wild beast a bit unfamiliar for the first time.
As they commanded White Wolf to leave, Chu Donglin also directed the wandering zombies in the square to follow along.
Under the pressure of the two Second-Stage Zombies, the low-level Zombies showed no resistance and obediently wandered towards the entrance of the district.
Moreover, during these two hours, the human corpses in the square had been nearly devoured by them, leaving only a ground littered with shattered bones and residual blood.
Now, the district held no allure for these Zombies anymore. When Chu Donglin commanded them to leave, they exhibited no intent to resist.
In the midday sunlight, a massive Zombie Tide surged towards the entrance of the district, while the enormous White Wolf carried Chu Donglin and another person through this tide of Zombies, heading towards the entrance.
As their large body moved through the sea of Zombies, all the Zombies automatically cleared a path, escorting the White Wolf towards the district's entrance.
Sitting on the back of the White Wolf and nestled in Chu Donglin's arms, the girl looked at the Zombies flowing away like a tide on both sides and suddenly spoke up.
"Brother-in-law..."
"Yes?"
"Aren't we going to look for supplies and food in this camp?"
Looking at the disarray in the district, Chu Donglin smiled with a hint of amusement. "Isn't it unnecessary? We now have a means of transportation. At this fellow's speed, we can quickly cross the city and reach your villa. We can find food there."
"But... I'm... hungry."
The girl shyly tugged at Chu Donglin's sleeve, looking pitiful as she said, "Brother-in-law, can we go find something to eat?"
Seeing her like this made Chu Donglin smile mischievously.
As he laughed, he reached out and pinched her nose. "You actually want me to go find those two twins that Li Zheng mentioned, right? You want to save them?"
The purpose was revealed by Chu Donglin, and the girl no longer hid her intentions, nodding her head.
"All the Survivors in the camp are dead, leaving only those two children. We can't just stand by and watch them die, can we? Brother-in-law, let's go find them and bring them back."
Seeing Liu Xiner's anxious and uneasy gaze, Chu Donglin sighed and patted the White Wolf beneath him, signaling it to turn back.
"Alright, you win. Let's go find those two girls."
Thus, the White Wolf, which had originally been heading towards the district gate with a large group of Zombies, changed direction and headed back towards the residential buildings.
"You're the best, brother-in-law."
The girl giggled as she tightly hugged Chu Donglin's arm and happily pecked his cheek.
Chu Donglin shook his head and said, "What does a peck on the cheek mean? There's no sincerity in that at all."
Riding on the back of the White Wolf, the girl's face turned red.
She bit her lip and looked around. Now, apart from the Zombies, there were no living people left in the district. Those Zombies stood there blankly, their eyes dull and lifeless, completely unaware of what was happening around them.
Taking a deep breath, the girl quickly leaned in and pecked Chu Donglin's lips again. "Is this better?"
Amidst her shy exclamation, Chu Donglin was left dumbfounded.
"Why did you kiss me? I just wanted you to help me massage my back. Why did you suddenly lean in? Sister Liu Xiner, I warn you, I have a family. Please show some respect."
As Chu Donglin teased her, the girl furiously waved her delicate fists, repeatedly hitting his chest in embarrassment and anger.
"Ahhhhh! Brother-in-law, you're such an idiot!"
However, the girl's strength was as soft as cotton; even if she were a Second-Stage Zombie, it wouldn't hurt a bit, not even to an ordinary person.
He laughed heartily, pulling the girl tightly into his embrace, ignoring her struggles, and leaned down to silence her protests with a kiss.
"Mmm... mmm... mmm..."
At first, the girl struggled, but gradually her movements slowed down. Eventually, she wrapped her arms around Chu Donglin's neck, eagerly responding to his kiss.
Three minutes later, when White Wolf returned to the square, Chu Donglin released the girl from his arms, licking his dry lips and smiling.
"How does it feel?"
The girl panted slightly, her face flushed as she looked at Chu Donglin, her sparkling eyes shimmering with emotion.
"Brother-in-law, let's do it again."
With that, she reached out her hands to wrap around Chu Donglin's neck once more, but this time he laughed and dodged away.
"Silly girl, do you really enjoy being watched by others?"
At Chu Donglin's teasing voice, Liu Xiner froze for a moment and then noticed two identical girls quietly watching them from the stairwell of a nearby building at the edge of the square.
They were two incredibly cute girls who appeared to be around eleven or twelve years old, dressed in matching white princess dresses. From a distance, they looked like something out of a dream, completely out of place in this square filled with blood and chaos.
Seeing the gaze of the two girls made Liu Xiner blush. Embarrassed and annoyed, she playfully hit Chu Donglin.
"Brother-in-law, you bad guy! Why didn't you remind me?"
"I just found out too! Who knew these two girls would be so bold? The zombies had just left when they came out!"
However, no matter how one looked at Chu Donglin's smiling face, it didn't seem like someone who had just discovered something.
He patted the head of the White Wolf beneath him and signaled for it to move forward.
Like a mythical beast from legends, the enormous White Wolf strode majestically toward the two girls. Sitting atop the White Wolf, looking down at the two identical girls, Chu Donglin couldn't help but smile.
"Sisters, what are your names?"
As the massive White Wolf approached, the two girls strangely showed no signs of fear; they didn't even take a step back.
After Chu Donglin asked his question, the two girls exchanged glances, and one of them smiled sweetly.
"Big Brother, are you a zombie?"
Beneath that sweet smile lay something eerily unsettling. In an instant, Chu Donglin felt the hairs on his neck stand on end, and his expression turned cold. (To be continued...)
