It was not surprising to Chu Donglin that the purity of this Energy Crystal was astonishing.
Ordinary Energy Crystals contained a mix of black and red filamentous substances inside, soft like gummy candy, yet tough enough that even a knife could not cut through them.
Chu Donglin had personally tested it, swinging a hammer with all his might against the Energy Crystal. His hand went numb from the recoil, but the Energy Crystal remained unscathed, without even a crack.
Generally, the more red filamentous material present in the crystal, the purer its quality and the greater its energy.
The Energy Crystal before him had red material occupying almost eighty percent of its space; at first glance, it appeared to be a pure red gem. The energy contained within it was likely the strongest he had ever encountered in an Energy Crystal.
Quickly wiping away the bloodstains on it, Chu Donglin swallowed the Energy Crystal whole.
A familiar warmth rose from his abdomen and swiftly spread throughout his limbs.
Some subtle warm currents even penetrated into Chu Donglin's brain, mixing with the Energy Core within.
During this time, he could distinctly feel his physical strength and body resilience enhancing. Both his power and toughness had significantly improved.
This absorption lasted for a full half hour.
When Chu Donglin finished absorbing the Energy Crystal, he clenched his fists and slowly exhaled a breath of turbid air.
Feeling the powerful energy surging within him, Chu Donglin took a deep breath and set off toward his next destination.
Having fully absorbed this Energy Crystal, he felt a vague sensation in his heart—he was on the verge of evolution.
It felt like water in a kettle about to overflow; it was unclear, yet Chu Donglin knew it was not an illusion.
His next target was a trash can on the street, where a child-like Zombie was hiding. According to Chu Donglin's observations, this was a troublesome enemy.
It wasn't that it was particularly strong; rather, this fellow was an agile type of Zombie.
With a terrifying speed that could induce panic, combined with its slender form standing less than one meter tall, it was practically a nemesis for Strength-Type Zombies.
In a previous observation, Chu Donglin had witnessed it swiftly circling around a Strength-Type Mutated Zombie, moving so fast that it left afterimages behind, making it nearly impossible to see its true form.
That Strength-Type Zombie could not catch even a single hair from it before dying; it could only roar in frustration as it remained helplessly wounded by this agile Zombie.
However, like any typical Agile Zombie, this fellow's attack power was sadly low.
In the battle that Chu Donglin witnessed, this agile Zombie left over a hundred wounds on the body of a Strength-Type Zombie from start to finish. Yet, none of those wounds were fatal. The pair of claws it evolved could only leave shallow scratches on the tough skin of the Strength-Type Zombie, merely creating a line of blood. When it came to inflicting greater damage, it was clearly lacking in strength.
If it weren't for the fact that it accidentally pierced the big guy's eyeball, driving its claws into the enemy's brain, it would have hardly been able to harm its opponent at all.
Unlike the Strength-Type Zombie, although Chu Donglin possessed great power, his development seemed to lean more towards balance. In terms of both speed and strength, Chu Donglin was not particularly strong. Even when it came to Mental Power, he was much weaker compared to those controlling Zombies.
Chu Donglin felt that this situation might be due to either his true abilities not having awakened yet or that ordinary Zombies evolved in such a manner. After all, unlike those Mutated Zombies with dark red eyes, he started out as an Ordinary Zombie with lifeless gray eyes, indistinguishable from the low-level Zombies wandering the streets.
If it weren't for his intelligence and rapid evolution into something stronger, he would likely be just like most Zombies, aimlessly wandering the streets without a goal or destination, completely acting on instinct.
Perhaps only Zombies with red eyes could evolve into Ability users, while he, as an Ordinary Zombie, could only continue on this mediocre path?
Chu Donglin did not know the specifics of his situation; however, it was precisely because of this mediocrity that he could handle various Mutated Zombies without being troubled by any particular weakness in combat.
After locating the dumpster where the Zombie was hiding, Chu Donglin did not approach immediately to avoid startling it. Instead, he used his Mental Power to control over twenty Zombies to surround the dumpster.
Although First-Stage Zombies were exceptionally sensitive to their kind at the first stage, they paid little attention to these common Zombies found everywhere on the streets. Thus, after surrounding the dumpster with a sturdy fishing net in layers, the Mutated Zombie inside continued to sleep soundly without reacting.
Seeing the dumpster tightly wrapped in fishing nets, Chu Donglin chuckled and walked over with the massive Hammer he had discarded earlier.
As soon as his footsteps entered within fifteen meters of the dumpster's vicinity, it suddenly shook violently. The First-Stage Zombie hiding inside jumped out with a roar and glared at Chu Donglin while emitting a low growl.
However, it was already completely ensnared by layers of fishing nets from all sides; jumping out of the dumpster was akin to walking into a trap. Without a doubt, this child-like Zombie was instantly wrapped up in the dense fishing nets and rendered immobile.
"Roar! Roar, roar!"
Struggling desperately with its legs, the Mutated Zombie found that its prized speed was of no use. It roared and howled in Madness, thrashing in the fishing net, trying to escape.
Seeing Chu Donglin approach with that enormous Hammer and a strange grin on his face, even the low intelligence of a First-Stage Zombie recognized the dire situation.
However, it was merely an agile Zombie, and when it came to strength, it couldn't compare to Chu Donglin. Even these towering Low-Level Zombies were not much weaker than it.
No matter how hard it struggled, it only managed to drag a few of the Zombies holding the fishing net along with it, lacking even the ability to knock them down.
Watching the frantic fellow in the net, Chu Donglin let out a strange laugh. He no longer wasted time and jumped over, carrying the Hammer.
The twenty-plus-pound Hammer was raised high and then brought down.
Crack—
With a sharp sound of shattering bones, this struggling First-Stage Zombie had its skull crushed by Chu Donglin's strike, collapsing limply within the tightly wrapped fishing net, no longer moving.
