Ferry Master
On the mountaintop, the cold wind howled and snowflakes danced wildly!
I glared with fierce eyes, braving the onslaught of the blizzard. From beginning to end, I didn’t blink; I was determined to focus on every detail of Zhengyang, etching his Familiar Face into my memory, never to forget!
“Kill!”
Fueled by my emotions, a high-pitched roar erupted from my throat, and then I finally collided with Zhengyang in a fierce clash.
When the Azure Dark Sword met the Chengjun Sword, the Daoist Spiritual Energy and Killing Intent made direct contact, resulting in an explosive reaction!
Boom!
An Energy Storm swept between us, faint sounds of thunder echoing as it tousled my white hair. Zhengyang’s hairpin burst apart, his locks swirling chaotically in the wind.
Then, with a surge of strength in my arms, my body filled with Dragon Power surged like a mighty river as I thrust the Azure Dark Sword toward Zhengyang. His own power was too weak; even though he tried to block my initial strike with the Chengjun Sword, he could not hold his ground against me. With a powerful push, he was sent flying like a kite severed from its string.
I watched as his slender form swayed in the storm, his attire rustling in the wind. A thin line of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, crimson droplets rolling down and starkly contrasting against the pure white world around us. Clearly, he had sustained internal injuries from my fierce attack, flying backward for twenty or thirty meters before hitting the ground. He staggered back several steps; each footfall sent snow flying, and even his cloth shoes were torn. Finally, he came to a halt, swaying unsteadily as he leaned on the Chengjun Sword to steady himself.
His complexion had turned pale, pain flickering in his eyes. He opened his mouth and coughed up a mouthful of black blood, gasping for breath against the biting wind. It seemed difficult for him to breathe; he looked utterly exhausted!
“Zhengyang, you are nothing but this.”
I held the Azure Dark Sword upside down and walked toward him step by step. Each footstep crunched through the snow beneath me, echoing like my strained nerves under pressure. I looked up at him, obscured by the storm; his features were blurred. Then I spoke slowly and deliberately: “What do you have to fight me with?”
I knew he was gravely injured and prepared to take his life.
To my surprise, Zhang Jinya, who had been hunched over and curled up in the snowstorm, suddenly found some courage from who knows where. He dashed forward and stood just a meter away from me, spreading his arms wide to block my path!
He said nothing but appeared somewhat timid as he stood in front of me.
However, this single act took me by surprise!
"Bald Qiang," I thought, "daring to stand in my way is no surprise."
But how could Big Mouth Lee, that coward, have the audacity?
"Do you want to oppose me too?"
My gaze lingered on Big Mouth Lee's timid face as I slowly raised the Azure Dark Sword and pressed it against his throat. The blade's tip was already touching his skin. I stared into his eyes and said, "I remember you’re afraid of pain and death. Why would you choose this moment to confront me? You should know that killing you would be effortless for me."
Gulp!
Big Mouth Lee swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing. The Azure Dark Sword I held against his throat cut into his skin, a trickle of crimson blood flowing down.
He truly was a coward; he shuddered and took a step back, fear flashing in his eyes. It was clear he had intended to turn and flee, but something seemed to stop him. He hesitated, then moved his cracked lips to speak, his voice tinged with a whimper, "You can't do this."
Suddenly, he dropped to his knees in the snow and began crawling towards me. The stones beneath the snow tore at his clothes and legs, leaving two trails of blood behind him. He clutched my leg tightly and burst into tears, "You can't! If you kill me, we’ll both be lost forever. You can never go back!"
Could I really return to the past?
I exhaled deeply, my gaze sharpening. This coward had not changed; all he knew was how to cry!
Did you think your tears could block my path to revenge?
I instinctively raised the sword again, but when I met Big Mouth Lee's tear-streaked face, my hand faltered.
His repeated pleas of "You can't!" pierced my heart like daggers. A wave of inexplicable sorrow washed over me, and despite having walked so far over countless corpses without looking back, I felt tears welling up again.
At that moment, a series of rustling sounds came from behind me without warning. I turned instinctively to see Bald Qiang—whom I had just kicked away—crawling towards me, bloodied and with a twisted expression on his chubby face. Yet he was stubbornly persistent, just like Big Mouth Lee, managing to crawl up behind me before grabbing my leg.
This time, Big Mouth Lee was no longer hysterical; he suddenly calmed down and looked up at me with a smile that made my heart twitch unexpectedly. He gasped for breath, white mist escaping from his mouth as he spoke slowly, "As long as you still hold onto even a shred of brotherhood in your heart, just let it go now. Leave this mountain quickly and never return to this country again. If you truly wish to become a monster, then do it completely—kill me too. Brother Qiang will support your decision; only by using your killing sword against your own brother can you truly be ruthless enough for others to fear you."
I had no words as I locked eyes with Bald Qiang. Several times I tightened my grip on the sword but ultimately released it.
The urge to kill had crossed my mind before.
But every time I thought about raising my knife, I would remember the times we endured hardships together, weathering storms side by side.
“Bald Qiang, let go. All that has happened should come to an end now.”
I tilted my head to look at Bald Qiang. I wasn’t sure what expression I wore, but my voice trembled slightly. “Take a look back, my friend. The ones who have faced trials and survived countless hardships are all gone. They’re all gone. How can I swallow this anger, this hatred? Bald Qiang, you talk about brotherhood, but if we’re going to discuss that, then I have some things to say to you too.”
At this point, I raised my hand and pointed in the direction of Zhengyang. “Why should I kill? Doesn’t he know? Because I trusted him, I fell into his trap, and I accepted that! But now, just for his so-called righteousness, he wants to turn around and kill me! You bring up brotherhood; do you think it’s all about me looking out for you? Have you ever considered my feelings? Bald Qiang, if you still have a shred of humanity left in you, you shouldn’t stop me. You know what I’m fighting for! Right now, I don’t resent him for sending me back to the Dao Alliance because I know he didn’t mean to betray me. Even if I end up suffering a terrible defeat, at least I know he tried his best. I don’t hate him! What I hate is his cold-heartedness. After knowing what I’ve been through, he didn’t think of me at all; instead, he took over as the leader and turned against me, wanting to kill me! Have you ever thought that he owes me an apology?”
I gasped for breath as the cold air pierced my lungs, clearing my thoughts somewhat. I sneered lightly and said, “You want me to think of brotherhood and back down? Fine! First, let Zhengyang apologize to me. Let him throw away his so-called righteousness and stand in my shoes to understand how I feel. He should give up on killing me and step down from his position as leader, retreat from the world! Can you do that?”
Bald Qiang was stunned.
“You can’t do it, can you? If you can’t do it, then don’t stop me.”
I laughed coldly and enunciated each word clearly: “Just because he not only owes me an apology but also wants to kill me—just because he is the leader—today, he must die without a doubt!”
As soon as my words fell, Zhengyang’s voice suddenly echoed through the wind and snow.
“The way is powerless; thus Evil Spirits roam freely among humans, disrupting the balance of yin and yang. Evil Spirits bring suffering to living beings. What use is such a way to me? It’s better to stand firm as a prison, transforming the seven souls into seven gods, igniting the three souls for earth and humanity, sacrificing myself to mend the rift!”
