Perhaps it was due to my anger, but the Killing Intent within me burned fiercely, reminiscent of the wild impulse I felt deep within the ruins of Atlantis.
I craved bloodshed.
However, perhaps my life was nearing its end, and instead of weakening, I felt an overwhelming surge of energy, as if I were experiencing a final burst of vitality. The meteorite embedded in me no longer felt like a burden; rather, it seemed to provide me with power! A bloodthirsty sensation coursed through me, yet I managed to keep it under control. What troubled me was the wound on my head, throbbing painfully. Blood flowed down my cheek like a broken dam, and I could tell the injury was near the back of my head close to the Spirit Cap; it seemed the Vessel atop my head had been shattered. I could feel blood trickling down my spine, making me feel quite uncomfortable!
Just as I was lost in these thoughts, the door to the Defense Hall finally creaked open.
Oh? What a grand scene!
I couldn't help but sneer; it seemed they had truly gathered their best to judge me!
Inside the Defense Hall, a large circle of people sat together, dressed in various styles, but they could roughly be divided into four groups.
The first group wore identical Daoist robes, differing only in color. They were likely from the Taoist Sect—probably members from Maoshan Dao and Mastery had all come together, concentrated in the center of the hall.
The second group appeared to be from Yunnan-Guizhou, dressed in peculiar attire. Most wore traditional Miao clothing, with women adorned with heavy silver ornaments on their heads. Their outfits made it clear they were practitioners of spirit cultivation from Yunnan-Guizhou, seemingly here to seek justice for White Invincible.
The third group huddled in a corner of the Defense Hall, shrouded in darkness and exuding an eerie aura. These figures were unmistakably Corpse Drivers from Xiangxi; only those who dealt with Mountain Spirits at night would carry such a chilling presence—more ghostly than human.
The fourth group was a colorful mix. On the right side of the Defense Hall sat most of them in suits, resembling a gathering of successful individuals. The standing figures were all clad in black attire, exuding an air of bodyguards. Judging by their appearance and demeanor, I suspected they were Southern Guardians from near Yangming Cave who had returned with their trained warriors.
Overall, at first glance, there were likely over a hundred people in the Defense Hall alone, with six or seven masters among them. It seemed that some old monsters who had long hidden themselves from the world had finally emerged.
Adding to this were those lurking in the trees on either side of the path; the Sun and Moon Alliance had prepared at least ten masters waiting for me!
Yet none of this fazed me; having come this far, life and death were no longer in my hands. My gaze wandered through the crowd.
I was searching for Zhengyang, Bald Qiang, and Big Mouth Lee. Since entering, Big Mouth Lee had vanished without a trace—quite suspicious!
Unfortunately, after searching for a long time, I still couldn't find any trace of them!
They are not here?
I frowned lightly, feeling increasingly uneasy.
It seems I have been deceived again!
Zhengyang never intended to meet me!!
What a scheme!
Perhaps they had already calculated my temperament!
At the foot of the mountain gate, the Sun and Moon Alliance had already revealed their fangs, using Zhengyang as bait to lure me deeper into their trap. They knew that when emotions were involved, I would hesitate, which is why they used this ploy to trick me!
Zhengyang, you have truly made a thorough mess of things this time. Ten masters are waiting for me, and you avoid me entirely, clearly intending for me not to leave alive!
“Xia Ji, come in!”
At that moment, the voice of the Sun-Moon Alliance Leader suddenly echoed from the Defense Hall. He sat at the deepest part of the hall on a high platform, looking calm and composed, his expression unreadable.
This was my first time seeing the leader of the Sun and Moon Alliance. He sat high above in a black Daoist robe, his hair and beard completely white. However, his complexion was quite rosy; he seemed well-preserved. His gaze was deep and inscrutable, making it impossible for me to discern his thoughts. Ironically, after serving the Sun and Moon Alliance loyally for over a year, I finally realized who I was truly loyal to. And now, at this moment, the very person I had sworn allegiance to was preparing to kill me. Wasn't that a tremendous joke?
I let out a long breath, stopped overthinking it, wiped the blood from my face, and strode into the Defense Hall.
As soon as I entered the Defense Hall, I sensed something unusual. The hall was filled with a very peculiar scent, reminiscent of steel that had just been drenched in rain—a faint smell of rust.
I was all too familiar with this scent; it was the smell of blood!!
Moreover, it was particularly fresh blood—likely from a living person—because if blood had flowed out for too long, this fresh metallic scent would have faded away.
The Blood Smell lingered for no more than an hour.
At first, I thought it was my own Blood Smell, but I quickly realized it wasn’t mine. I noticed several dark red marks beneath the feet of the Taoist Sect members and those Southern Guardians. Those marks were clearly bloodstains, hastily cleaned but not thoroughly, leaving behind these dark red imprints.
Had there been a bloody battle here not long ago?
It seemed that it hadn’t been too long ago; if I were to guess, it must have happened shortly after I entered the Sun and Moon Alliance. Otherwise, the Blood Smell wouldn’t be so fresh!
Who had fought fiercely here?
I furrowed my brow lightly.
“Dogs from the Xia Family, what are you sniffing around for?”
Suddenly, a mocking voice rang out beside me: “No need to look; there’s no dog food here!”
I raised an eyebrow and turned toward the source of the voice, noticing a plump middle-aged man sitting among the Southern Guardians. He wore a loose suit that seemed ready to burst at any moment, resembling a chubby pig as he grinned menacingly at me.
I shot him a sidelong glance. “Which side are you on?”
“You!”
The fat man’s eye twitched violently. “I am the true master of the Dong Family; the Dong Ba you killed was merely my dog!”
So he was a dog from the Dong Family!
I let out a cold laugh, uninterested in engaging in further conversation. I waved my hand to cut off his self-aggrandizing speech. “No need to tell me your name; I won’t remember it anyway!”
“Bold!”
The Head of the Dong Family stood up abruptly, his chest heaving with anger, nearly rolling his eyes in frustration.
“Abomination, how dare you be so arrogant at this moment? Kneel down!”
A sarcastic voice echoed from the dark corner, “I’ve never seen anyone so bold in front of so many esteemed seniors. Truly, it’s the Ambition of a Wolf!”
The speaker was a Corpse Driver.
“Have you ever seen a Ge Family kneel? Or do you think you deserve my kneeling?”
I scoffed, slowly saying, “Don’t talk to me about esteemed seniors. Here, I see no esteemed seniors, only a group of despicable people who wallow in filth and a bunch of ambitious schemers wanting to usurp the guardianship of Shanxi for their own gain!”
“Bastard!”
The Corpse Driver roared in fury.
In an instant, the other Corpse Drivers stood up in unison, usually independent, but now they were united.
“Enough! Causing chaos in court is unbecoming!”
At that moment, the Sun-Moon Alliance Leader, who had been watching coldly from above, spoke up. Instantly, all noise subsided. He looked deeply at me and said, “Alright, let the defense begin!”
