When we arrived in the countryside, it was already three o'clock. We quietly slipped into Zhanghu Village and found a privately run inn to stay at, where there was no need to register our identities. This was one of the reasons we chose such an inn. This area was under the Dong Family's influence, and their network extended into every corner, making the situation quite complex. Moreover, the current leader was Dong Ba, a person whose mind was hard to fathom. Managing such a large enterprise surely required more than just simple skills. It was difficult to determine whether they were monitoring the check-in systems of various hotels, so out of caution, we opted for this discreet way of staying, slipping right under the Dong Family's nose.
After settling in, Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee told me to wait at the inn while they went out to investigate the situation. In their words, I was too obvious a target; it would be better for them to check if Dong Ba was home. If we didn't eliminate Dong Ba, it would be as if the Dong Family had not been destroyed.
So there I was, waiting in the inn while Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee went out. As time passed—over four hours—I became increasingly anxious, fearing they had encountered some trouble. After all, this was Dong Family territory; they had been operating here for years like local emperors. Anything could happen here, and with them gone for so long, I began to wonder if I should go look for them.
Just when my patience was about to run out, Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee returned.
That night, heavy rain poured down. When Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee came back, they looked like drowned rats, but there was a distinct smell of blood surrounding them. Most people wouldn't be able to detect such a scent, but my nose was extremely sensitive to it.
"Did you get into a fight?"
I immediately stood up from the bed and instinctively reached for my Azure Dark Sword, speaking in a low voice: "What happened? Has the Dong Family discovered our whereabouts?"
"Son of a bitch, give me back my Brother Huzi! Dong Ba!"
Big Mouth Lee cursed through gritted teeth: "That bastard is too cautious. He wasn't at the Dong Family's current headquarters; instead, he was hiding in their old residence—the place where his ancestor Cao Baozi used to secretly keep concubines! That place is nearly demolished now; hardly anyone goes there anymore. The Dong Family only kept that old house because of connections. I searched for him for four or five hours before finally finding it. When we sneaked over to check things out, we discovered that he had gathered quite a few people outside that dilapidated house. Their lives are worth a lot; they were afraid of losing their lives! As soon as we approached, those people spotted us!"
"You've already been exposed?"
I got up and prepared to leave: "We can't waste any time; let's hurry after him! Dong Ba is going to escape!"
"It's fine; he can't escape. Don't panic; your killing intent is too strong; you're getting more irritable," Big Mouth Lee said with a cold laugh. "Although those guys spotted us, I took care of them right away and dumped them in the mountains. Dong Ba probably hasn't realized yet. But he's like a startled bird now; after using such ruthless methods against other Guardians Families in the south—those who follow him prosper; those who oppose him perish—many people want his life now. I suspect he might have some skilled protectors around him; should we wait a bit longer?"
"No waiting."
I exhaled deeply: "If we can't take down Dong Ba with our current strength, then we'll never be able to destroy the Dong Family by just waiting around! It's better to strike first!"
Lu Jianguo remained silent for a moment before finally nodding slowly after some hesitation. "Dazui, you stay here and keep watch; be ready for support!" At first, Big Mouth Lee wanted to argue but fell silent when he heard 'be ready for support.'
The decision was made, and we didn't hesitate. Tonight, the heavy rain masked all sounds from the ground, and with the moon hidden, it was the perfect time for my revenge!
I took a knife and jumped down from the second floor of the inn.
After landing, I headed straight to where Lu Jianguo had parked. I waited in the car for a while until Big Mouth Lee and the others checked out. We weren't here to do anything good; once it was done, we had to leave immediately. It was better that they checked out!
Dong Ba's place was located in an old district on the southeastern outskirts of the city. In the early 20th century, it was the most prosperous area of the city. Now, time had changed everything, and it had basically been marked for demolition. Over a decade ago, some elderly residents still lived there, but now the authorities had cleared most of them out. By the time we arrived, it was already midnight!
Lu Jianguo parked the car in a windbreak outside that old district. From a distance, I spotted a dark building with only one courtyard lit up. There was no doubt; that grandson Dong Ba must be living there.
Lu Jianguo and I exchanged glances and silently opened the car doors, stepping into the muddy ground under the pouring rain as we slowly approached the ruins.
Lu Jianguo asked me, "Should we sneak in?"
"Let’s charge right in; leave no one alive."
I replied calmly, a faint smile appearing on my lips. I didn’t even know why I smiled; it felt completely involuntary: "We’re here to kill. If we're going to do it, let’s do it openly!"
"Alright, got it."
Lu Jianguo wiped the rain off his face and glanced at me again. "But can you stop smiling? You know you look like a psycho right now?"
I ignored him, listening to the sound of rain falling around me. My heart felt strangely calm. Although I knew what I was about to do, I felt little emotion—like I had lost all feelings of joy or sorrow, like a walking corpse. The heavy rain soaked me completely, yet I remained oblivious to everything around me until I reached the entrance of that old district. It was an ancient street with a distinct Jiangnan architectural style—elegant yet worn down on both sides.
"Who’s there?"
Suddenly, a male voice rang out beside me, and then a man’s head poked out from a window of a nearby house.
Dong Ba's lackey!
My gaze sharpened. No wonder White Invincible and Dong Ba were so jumpy; they weren't wrong—every idle old house here was filled with Dong Ba's people!
"You're asking for it!"
I only gave that man four words, and he was clearly taken aback. In that moment, I had already made my move. The Azure Dark Sword remained sheathed as I thrust the scabbard directly toward his throat. Dragon Power surged through me, and my arm crackled with the sound of Skeleton. I could even faintly hear a dragon's roar within my flesh. Before the man could react, the scabbard forcefully plunged into his throat!
Crack!
I distinctly heard the sound of his cervical vertebrae breaking as the scabbard struck. Just like that, he gasped his last breath, his eyes wide open in shock. In the next moment, blood gushed out, splattering me with its warm warmth.
At that instant, a ripple finally stirred in my calm heart—excitement!
Now, only the blood of my enemies could exhilarate me, making me feel truly alive.
"You're a bit too ruthless, aren't you?"
Big Mouth Lee instinctively dodged away from me, leaving behind a single remark: "I'm heading over there. There are two streets in this old district; I'll go to that street. Let's see who can kill Dong Ba first!"
"Alright!"
I responded with just one word. In the next moment, the Azure Dark Sword was drawn, and I let out a fierce roar: "Kill!"
