The sounds of wailing ghosts echoed all around, sending chills down my spine.
This situation clearly indicated that the restless spirits outside the Desolate Village had been awakened. The Eagle Beak had experienced three massacres; how many restless spirits could there be? Even if some of them lacked Daoist Practice, we wouldn't stand a chance if they all rushed at us!
A cold dread settled in my heart. How could the Earth Spirit Guardian awaken so many restless spirits? This was practically the ability of a ghost king!
At that moment, the Earth Spirit Guardian standing on the rooftop howled, its appearance drastically changed. Its mouth had grown particularly large, and from where its canine teeth were, four long fangs protruded, each over ten centimeters long and razor-sharp, resembling four barbed spikes. Under the dim light of the moon filtering through the night sky, these fangs glimmered with a chilling light. Its once distinct black-and-white eyes had turned completely black, exuding an eerie aura.
Lu Jianguo and the others and I had seen our fair share of battles. As the ghostly wails filled the air, we instinctively pressed our backs together for support.
"This isn't the Earth Spirit Guardian; I made a mistake!"
At that moment, Lu Jianguo spoke in a low voice, "This is a King Guman Child, also known as King Ghost Child!"
"What kind of creature is that?"
I gritted my teeth and asked, "What are its weaknesses?"
The King Ghost Child could be considered an ancestor of the Guman Child that has become popular in Southeast Asia today!
This entity first appeared around thirteen hundred years ago during the Khmer Dynasty, roughly around 700 AD in Cambodia.
During the peak of the Khmer Dynasty, its king was Jayavarman I, who was one of its greatest rulers. On one occasion, he attacked a kingdom whose king's daughter happened to be his queen. Jayavarman I was troubled about how to conceal this from his wife. Little did he know, she was already aware of it and planned to poison him to sacrifice herself for her country. Such occurrences were common between nations; as long as a country could be preserved, one or two lives hardly mattered. However, this princess was no seasoned assassin; her nervousness during the assassination attempt led to Jayavarman I discovering her plan. In a tragic turn of events, he ended up killing his own wife.
To his shock, it turned out she was pregnant with his child!
Overcome with guilt, Jayavarman I ordered the Dragon Lady to extract the stillborn child from his wife's womb and have it roasted into a corpse by the most powerful Dragon Lady in Khmer culture. This created the first Guman Child, also known as Earth Spirit Guardian—a type of Guman Child. The one created by Jayavarman I was referred to as "King Guman Child," or "King Ghost Child." Because he had killed his wife and severed its path to becoming a Yang Person before transforming it into a Guman Child, Jayavarman I's King Ghost Child was particularly fierce and filled with killing intent. It was said to possess an aura akin to that of a ghost king. Following Jayavarman I into battle across various lands, it brought him unparalleled success. Legend has it that this King Ghost Child could command the spirits of those who died on the battlefield while standing atop Jayavarman I's war elephant.
Later on, in 141 AD, the Siamese army—now known as Thailand—conquered the Khmer Dynasty. Many secret techniques from the Khmer Dynasty leaked out during this time, including methods for creating Guman Children. This led to their rise in popularity throughout Southeast Asia.
Guman Children draw their power from resentment; the greater the resentment, the stronger their might!
Among them, the most resentful Guman Child is that which Jayavarman I created—the one born from a mother killed by its father and then extracted from her womb to be transformed into a Guman!
This ancient spirit is known as the King Ghost Child!
However, this method is too cruel; even some Necromancers cannot bear it. To kill one's beloved woman and turn their child into a Guman Child—only a pervert could commit such an act. Even a tiger does not eat its cubs! Therefore, King Ghost Children are extremely rare.
Lin Qing, this King Ghost Child, is very skilled in deceitful words, able to manipulate spirits to serve him. He can also fly, making him a particularly formidable opponent with few weaknesses!
At that moment, the wailing of Crawling All Over grew increasingly mournful. From the sound, it was clear that spirits had already arrived outside the courtyard.
Bang!
The wooden door of the courtyard was suddenly smashed open, and a large group of Yin Soldiers rushed in, wielding rusted weapons. These Yin Soldiers wore military uniforms from the Qing Dynasty, their features more pronounced and three-dimensional than those of Han People. They were clearly the Hui Rebellion soldiers executed by Zuo Zongtang at Yellow Earth Mound!
But how did they possess weapons from their past lives?
Ah, yes! The Hui Muslim Eight Banner Soldiers adhere to the principle of "life and death never part from the blade." This means that the Eight Banners soldiers of the Hui people are passed down through generations; many are destined to enter the Eight Banners military camps from birth. Therefore, when they are born, their fathers craft a military sword for them, which becomes their lifelong companion. Even when they sleep, they must rest with their swords beside them. Together in life and in death. Although Manchurian Ghost Soldiers were of very low quality by the end of the Manchu era—many could barely read—they still retained this tradition of "life and death never part from the blade." Zuo Zongtang was particularly respectful of ethnic customs, so it is likely that even during the Hui Rebellion when Bai Yanhu's forces killed countless Han people, he still honored this custom by sending these rebellious soldiers off with their swords, preserving a basic dignity of warriors. This ultimately resulted in the Yin Soldiers before us!
However, these Yin Soldiers had been hiding somewhere; I hadn't encountered them when I entered. Now seeing them burst through the door left me momentarily stunned!
"Zhi!"
Lu Jianguo shouted loudly: "You excel in prolonged battles and group fights. Go guard the door; don't let those things surround us! Big Mouth Lee, fight alongside me to take down this King Ghost Child!"
With this command given, we charged at the King Ghost Child in a pincer formation. The King Ghost Child was fierce, surrounded by Eerie Energy, Killing Intent, and swirling resentment as he dove toward Lin Qing and the others!
The roles were assigned; I could do nothing more. At this moment, over twenty Yin Soldiers had rushed into the courtyard. I needed to quickly eliminate them and block the entrance!
"Kill!"
A high-pitched battle roar erupted from my throat as I drew my Azure Dark Sword. My Killing Intent surged forth as I stepped forward directly toward those Yin Soldiers. With half a meter of Killing Intent combined with the length of my Azure Dark Sword's blade, my attack range was astonishingly vast. The Killing Intent was unstoppable as I swung my Azure Dark Sword in a wide arc.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sharp sounds of metal clashing rang out as my strike violently severed dozens of Yin Soldiers' long knives along with their heads, which transformed into black mist!
These Yin Soldiers are not strong!
My confidence surged as I charged forward, swiftly cutting down the remaining Yin Soldiers. I then dashed to block the doorway. When I finally caught a glimpse of the situation outside in the alley, my scalp tingled uncontrollably because it was packed with Dirty Things!
"Anyone who crosses this threshold shall be executed!"
I shouted loudly, blocking the entrance. As long as a single ghost dared to approach, I would strike it down with Soul Shattering.
However, my shout had some effect; at least a portion of the ghosts hesitated for a moment. It seemed they were not deeply poisoned and had not been completely swayed by the King Ghost Child. This was my opportunity, and I quickly cleared away some of the ghosts in front of me.
At that moment, I suddenly heard Furball's furious shout from behind. Although the voice was youthful, it carried an air of authority: "Eight Bans of the Xiang Gate!"
What the hell! This guy has been silent for so long; why is he suddenly back now?
I instinctively turned to look and saw that Lu Jianguo and the others seemed to be struggling against the King Ghost Child. The main issue was that the King Ghost Child was too agile for them to catch up. Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee were entangled with the King Ghost Child, while Zhou Jing surprisingly sat cross-legged on the ground, his hands moving like paws in the air, drawing Bagua patterns. He seemed to be accumulating some peculiar power!
What is he trying to do?
I was stunned.
