Soul Calling is actually a form of witchcraft!
Witchcraft is a broad category that has existed in various corners of the world. The main classifications are as follows: Black Magic, White Magic, Spirit Writing, and Gu Dao Witchcraft.
Spirit Writing has already been mentioned; in fact, the supernatural game people often play, Spirit of the Pen, is one form of Spirit Writing. This type of witchcraft primarily utilizes the power of Demon to achieve its goals, essentially involving rituals that invite spirits to possess individuals, which can be extremely dangerous.
As for Black Magic, it encompasses a wider range, typically focusing on curses and hexes. It seeks dark or evil powers to punish the enemies of the practitioner. However, one usually has to pay an equivalent price; for instance, a person summoning an evil spirit must use their own blood as a medium. Due to its lethal nature, Black Magic gained infamy worldwide, particularly during the Middle Ages in Europe. The devastating Black Death, which swept across half of Europe and caused massive population loss, was reportedly linked to Black Magic, believed to have been invoked by a powerful sorcerer using forbidden spells. However, Black Magic has largely faded away today. The last time I heard about it was when I was in the Qinling Mountains, where I overheard Rosa mention it casually. Nowadays, those who still practice Black Magic are mostly found in certain tribes in North Africa. Of course, there are a few practitioners in our country as well, but they no longer wield the terrifying forbidden spells of old; instead, they practice hexing techniques that can only be seen in some remote Miao villages in the southwest. Soul Calling is difficult to categorize under any specific type of witchcraft. However, if I had to classify it, I would say it belongs to White Magic.
