"Li Wei?"
As soon as I heard that name, I couldn't help but furrow my brow slightly.
That's right; this girl is one of my fellow interns, a unique individual with a strong personality. She's beautiful and has a lovely singing voice. At the company party a few years ago, she was the lead singer of a band, and in our company, she is considered one of the "flowers." She's the typical "punk" girl, but she doesn't have any bad intentions. While the other girls in our group keep their distance from me, Li Wei is different; she doesn't have that snobbish attitude about wealth and is willing to hang out with me. So, I have quite a good impression of her.
Unfortunately, in today's society, many girls are picky not only about finding boyfriends but also about making male friends—preferring those who are wealthy, handsome, or talented.
I remember one girl telling me that knowing someone rich means receiving red envelopes during holidays, knowing someone handsome is pleasing to the eyes, and knowing someone talented makes cheating on exams easier.
However, I don't possess any of those qualities, so I can only accept my fate. Besides my close friends, I didn't have many female friends when I started my internship; Li Wei was one of them. Hearing that something happened to her made me anxious. Could it be that Li Wei was one of those who played that game back then?
Damn it! Of course! That girl has such a bold and reckless personality; if she finds something interesting, she'll go all out. She could very well get herself into trouble playing Supernatural Game!
Without hesitation, I rushed over to ask the girl, "When did something happen to Li Wei? Where is she now?"
The corridor was dimly lit, so it wasn't until I got closer that I could see the girl's face clearly. She looked decent enough—her face still youthful—but she wore heavy makeup and reeked of cheap perfume, which clashed awkwardly with her not-so-mature demeanor.
I recognized this girl; she used to be my colleague. Her name is Liu Pan. We had little interaction before because she represented the type of women in our class who were materialistic. After reading a few books that painted reality as incredibly harsh, she fancied herself having a deep understanding of life and believed there were no good people in reality—no one reliable at all. By nightfall, she would engage in activities that squandered the gifts given by her parents. She had always looked down on me and never treated me kindly, so once I recognized her after seeing her face clearly, it was easy to identify her.
"Xia Ji?"
Liu Pan froze when she saw me and suddenly lost her earlier urgency. Her tone became noticeably colder: "What does it matter to you what happened to Li Wei?"
What the hell? What kind of attitude does she think she has at a time like this? Does she really think she's above everyone else just because I'm not wealthy?
A surge of anger flared up inside me. After everything I've been through, I'm not the same person anymore; I'm too tired to indulge this kind of behavior from her. I coldly retorted, "You better tell me quickly, or else I'll summon some restless spirits tonight to deal with you."
I wasn't trying to scare her; in our line of work, summoning spirits is second nature for us. I wouldn't even need to do much—just light three white candles for summoning spirits at her window and smear some corpse oil at her doorstep. That would guarantee a night full of chaos for her!
Corpse oil is made from human or animal remains mixed with petals and leaves from the Spider Lily. The Spider Lily blooms in the Underworld and guides wandering souls; it's a flower favored by spirits due to its fragrance that attracts them. When combined with corpse oil containing death energy, any spirit that catches a whiff would be drawn toward it. Typically, places smeared with corpse oil are inns for Yin People; nowadays, only areas like Xiangxi still have such inns. They cater exclusively to the dead and conduct business related to them!
Threatened by my words, Liu Pan seemed ready to argue back but was pulled back by Team Leader Zhang. He shot Liu Pan a stern look and said, "Xia isn't here as a colleague; he's here to resolve an issue for our company. You need to cooperate!"
"Fairy?"
Liu Pan glanced at me with some confusion in her eyes. However, since Team Leader Zhang had spoken up, she couldn't say much more. Reluctantly, she replied: "She's in the dormitory building. One of our roommates just went out for dinner; Li Wei wasn't feeling well and stayed behind. When we returned, we heard her screaming inside the dormitory. The door was locked from the inside; no matter how hard we tried to break it down or used keys, we couldn't get it open!"
Ghostly Barrier!
A thought flashed through my mind; otherwise, I couldn't explain why the key wouldn't open the door!
When the Evil Spirit comes to claim a life, it sends a chilling wind blowing fiercely towards the closed door to prevent anyone from entering. Trying to push the door open at that moment is like wrestling with the wind. Ordinary people have no chance against it!!!
"When did this happen?"
My expression changed instantly as I asked, "Was there anything unusual besides Li Wei's screams?"
Liu Pan replied, "Just now! We came to find Zhang Team Leader because we couldn't push the door open. As for other situations, it seems particularly cold in the hallway, and there seems to be someone laughing in the dormitory!"
Cold?
That indicates heavy Eerie Energy!
Laughing?
If it's a person laughing, that's one thing. If it's a ghost laughing, that's a death omen!
I shot Liu Pan a fierce glare. When they discovered Li Wei screaming, she was undoubtedly being hunted by a malevolent spirit, and there was no time to waste. Yet here I was, asking this annoying girl while she wasted precious moments—this was literally playing with lives!!
However, I couldn't afford to settle scores with her at that moment. I called out to Big Mouth Lee and the others as we rushed toward the dormitory building. Li Wei was in the Eighth Girls' Dormitory Building, which wasn't far from where we were. Big Mouth Lee and I sprinted and arrived in less than five minutes.
The temperature in the hallway was indeed very low, cold and eerie. Such heavy Eerie Energy clearly indicated that Dirty Things were lurking about.
By this time, about ten girls had gathered in the hallway, and one guy was frantically banging on the door. He was thin and slightly over five feet tall but quite handsome.
When I saw him, I was taken aback; that was one of my good buddies from a previous dormitory, named Zhao Ding. He and I shared similar habits and often goofed around together—he was my best friend in this place. But why was he at the girls' dormitory?
However, this wasn't the time to ponder such things. I rushed up and pulled Zhao Ding away from the door. "Banging on the door won't help!"
"Let go of me!!"
At first, Zhao Ding didn't realize it was me and struggled against my grip. When he turned his head and saw me, he froze. "Xia?"
"Banging on the door won't help!"
I patted Zhao Ding on the shoulder. "Leave it to me!"
Zhao Ding opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly a female voice interrupted from the side. "Zhao Ding, we understand your concerns about the situation, but this is not something you can handle right now. Let Xia take care of it; he is the professional."
The voice sounded familiar. I turned my head and was surprised to see Zhao Nansu among the group of girls!
"I know the people in this dormitory. I was just having dinner with them when I heard about Li Wei's incident, so I rushed over to check it out!" Zhao Nansu explained, then urged, "You should hurry and open the door. Before you arrived, Li Wei had already fallen silent, and I'm worried!"
Actually, I didn't need him to tell me that. I had already received the Azure Dark Sword from Big Mouth Lee. With a swift motion, I drew the sword and activated the Dark Malevolent Energy within me.
Killing Intent unleashed!
Right now, I could only confront the troublesome spirit with my Daoist Practice. I focused on channeling my Killing Intent into my hands. In an instant, my palms became shrouded in mist. Then, with a fierce shout, I slammed my palm against the door.
As expected, it was indeed a Ghostly Barrier!
As soon as my hand touched the door, I felt waves of Eerie Energy drilling into my palm. However, they were all pushed back by the Killing Intent I had gathered in my hand. It seemed that this troublesome spirit's Daoist Practice wasn't strong enough. So, I concentrated all the Eerie Energy into my palm and with a powerful thrust of my arms, there was a loud bang as I shattered the door open!
