Scarabaeus originated around 500 million years ago, at a time when no mammals existed. Based on some excavated fossils, it can almost be concluded that Scarabaeus did not exist back then. Since the emergence of large mammals worldwide, the variety and number of beetles have also diversified and increased in a similar manner.
On the African savanna, on the fourth night after the rains of the rainy season, thousands of Dung Beetles emerge from underground.
This is a description of Dung Beetles found in popular science television programs about humans and nature.
All information regarding Scarabaeus is briefly mentioned in Mausoleum Secrets.
When I first read this passage, I thought it was all nonsense, just like something from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. However, after entering this field and reflecting on the content written in that book, I began to consider the reliability of this record! It seems that Mausoleum Secrets is akin to an encyclopedia like Daozang, not something written by one person in a moment of inspiration; it even contains accounts from foreigners!
"The Fang people build conical towers and raise Dung Beetles; if intruders enter, they will be devoured!" The original text records it this way, with detailed annotations below.
Fang refers to what is now the Arabian Peninsula. For example, Fang Ye Tan suggests that Mausoleum Secrets was compiled after the Tang Dynasty. In ancient Egypt, these creatures played a crucial role in guarding every pyramid built for the Pharaoh. Upon completion, one hundred pairs of male and female Scarabaeus were placed in the ventilation ducts. These Scarabaeus were specially bred by the Fang people, possessing survival and reproductive abilities far superior to ordinary giant Dung Beetles. They would live for generations within the tombs to guard them for the Pharaoh. If any intruder entered, these Scarabaeus would awaken the guardians of the tombs, essentially using their Yang Qi to revive the Living Dead and eliminate the intruders!
The largest pyramid discovered today, the Great Pyramid of Giza, had been opened by grave robbers. According to that book's account, there were many such Scarabaeus inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. At that time, these Scarabaeus awakened the dead within the pyramid and killed all the grave robbers!
In that moment, my mind was filled with chaotic thoughts!
This is Atlantis!
The Atlantis Civilization was a prehistoric super civilization that predates ancient Egyptian civilization. How could pyramids and Scarabaeus appear here?
Gradually, a bold hypothesis began to form in my mind.
For instance, pyramids.
For instance, Scarabaeus.
In other words, these pyramids and Scarabaeus should originally be masterpieces of Atlantis Civilization; they are not actually artifacts of ancient Egypt!
The Atlantis Civilization, although it perished nine thousand years ago and was once denied by scientists, has in fact long influenced human civilization!
Realizing this left me truly shaken. From what I currently understand, the structure of the burial mounds in Atlantis is identical to that of the surface pyramids in ancient Egypt. This means that their civilization, after spreading, did not undergo significant changes. Could it be that the Scarabaeus here is exactly the same as the Scarabaeus of ancient Egypt, cultivated using the same methods and serving identical purposes?
Could it be that after their extinction, some of the survivors fled to Egypt and established Egyptian civilization?
"Quick! Turn on all the flashlights!"
I shouted at the top of my lungs and began searching for traces of the fleeing Scarabaeus while holding my flashlight. During this process, I also grasped the layout of the burial chamber!
It was a square room, roughly a thousand square meters in size, completely empty except for a coffin adorned with strange patterns. At the far end of the chamber was a wide corridor leading to the next level of the pyramid's burial chambers!
At this moment, the Scarabaeus split into two groups. One group burrowed beneath the coffin; it was obvious that there must be holes underneath that coffin allowing them to enter.
The other group of Scarabaeus surged down the Grand Corridor toward the lower burial chamber!
This was an attempt to awaken all the dead within this pyramid!
Although Atlantis Civilization was a prehistoric super-civilization that once reached its zenith, one would think such barbaric practices as human sacrifice would not occur. However, let us not forget that Atlantis maintained an absolute monarchy. Despite being a Universal Society, the king possessed everything in the nation and held life-and-death power! In such a realm ruled by a single individual, bizarre and absurd events could certainly happen. Even with a high level of civilization, if a king demanded human sacrifice, it might still occur!
Canberra the Great was the most illustrious monarch of Atlantis; otherwise, he wouldn't have "the Great" appended to his name. If he had died and demanded human sacrifice, countless people would likely have been buried with him!
This means that countless individuals may have perished within this pyramid.
If these Scarabaeus were to awaken them, wouldn’t we be doomed?
As I glanced at the Scarabaeus that had already begun to burrow into the coffin, I realized it was impossible to stop what was about to happen. I shouted, "The dead are rising! Run!"
With that, I ran away!
Qingyi and the others saw me flee and didn’t even ask why; they immediately followed suit!
Canberra the Great had been hanging around for over ten thousand years. Just how formidable could a ten-thousand-year-old American Ginseng be? It was unimaginable! Most importantly, there was also a female American Ginseng down below, which meant Canberra the Great's wife! Besides that, there were probably many more American Ginsengs!
So, even though we had two divisions here, we couldn't afford to provoke such a situation!
With so many American Ginsengs around, it was like a massive tonic. After all we had been through, we were in no condition to benefit from it. How could we possibly confront Doron and the others after being tossed around like this? My decision was simple: retreat was the best strategy!
After seeing the Gold Plate inside the Tyrannosaurus Rex's belly, I already had a plan in mind. There had to be an exit at the base of this pyramid that connected to the Sacred River, leading directly to the Yin River's Corpse Raising Ground!
So as long as we ran straight to the bottom of the pyramid, we could escape our predicament!
However, just as we reached the entrance of the Grand Corridor and hadn’t even had time to dive in, the coffin that had been resting in the middle of the tomb suddenly stirred. With a loud crash, the coffin lid flew off and, unfortunately for me, came crashing directly toward me!
The coffin lid looked particularly thick and came with tremendous force. I could even hear the whooshing sound of air as it approached, sending chills down my spine. If it hit me solidly, it would surely incapacitate me! My momentum faltered as I braced myself, but then the coffin lid smashed against the Tomb Wall in front of me with a loud crack, shattering into pieces!
"The dead are rising! The dead are rising!!"
Big Mouth Lee, who was running at the back, suddenly screamed, "What the hell? Is that a mummy?"
At his shout, I instinctively turned my head to look and immediately felt a wave of dread wash over me!
No way, the American Ginseng in the coffin had already stood up. It was dry and only about five feet tall, completely wrapped in white bandages, resembling a Western mummy, specifically a fierce type known as Dried Western Ginseng!
What is Dried Western Ginseng?
It is essentially a reanimated Western corpse!
It looks just like dried American Ginseng, which is why it’s called Dried Western Ginseng!
This kind of mummy had its internal organs removed at the time of death, seemingly preserved through some drying process. Since the organs didn't rot inside, it didn't produce any Corpse Poison. However, it was incredibly resilient and strong, far more ferocious than our Eastern Iron Corpses. The most crucial point is that when it died, it was wrapped in countless bandages from head to toe, which meant that its resentment, Eerie Energy, and foul aura had not dissipated. This made it exceptionally heavy with negative energy, so when the mummy reanimated, it was much more formidable than an ordinary Dried Corpse. Plus, with bony hands that could easily pierce through flesh, one poke could create a bloody hole. In short, it was not something to mess with!
This was my first encounter with a reanimated mummy; in fact, it was my first time seeing a mummy at all. I was so scared I nearly bolted!
“Run!”
Without a second thought, I dashed into the corridor!
