The saying goes, "If you don't provoke it, you won't die." The moment I lit the Incense for Summoning Spirits, I felt as if I had exploded!
In that instant, the Ghost Residents that had blocked the entire street went wild, like starving dogs that had just spotted meat. They charged towards the Incense for Summoning Spirits, and a chilling wind howled around me, leaving me momentarily stunned by the scene.
In the blink of an eye, the stick of Incense for Summoning Spirits I had planted in the ground was surrounded by a horde of demons, frantically consuming its essence. The incense burned with a sizzling sound, its speed alarmingly fast.
I dared not delay and quickly retreated. However, after moving back three or four meters, the stick of Incense for Summoning Spirits was already burnt out. Instantly, all the Demon eyes around me fixed on me with a desperate longing that made my scalp tingle. I hurriedly lit another stick and planted it in the ground!
In an instant, those Demons lunged at me!
At this moment, I gradually found my rhythm. While scattering incense, I continued to back away, feeling much calmer as I got closer to Ghost Granny and the others. However, the sticks of Incense for Summoning Spirits in my hand were dwindling. By the time I reached near Ghost Granny and her group, only one stick remained. In front of me was a dark mass of Demons filling the entire street, surging like a tide!
I glanced at Big Mouth Lee and his companions; they had already moved far away.
Not wanting to be overwhelmed by these Demons, I lit the last stick. As the fragrance of the Incense for Summoning Spirits wafted out, my heart skipped a beat. Once this incense burned out, those Demons would come for my life.
"Don't move!"
Ghost Granny's voice rang out behind me. She stealthily approached from behind and without hesitation swung her Divine Whip at the Demon Child perched on my neck. With a sharp crack, she accurately struck the back of its head!
I had to admit that this sneaky blow deserved full marks; it was perfectly angled and hit a vital spot. With that strike, the Demon Child was stunned into silence and fell off my neck. In an instant after hitting the ground, it transformed into a cloud of black mist and dissipated—Ghost Granny had effectively shattered its soul with that blow!
I couldn't help but widen my eyes and glance at the Demon Child's mother. She remained blissfully unaware as she leaned forward to inhale more of the Incense for Summoning Spirits, completely oblivious to her daughter's demise at Ghost Granny's hands!
At this moment, my previously frozen neck finally regained some mobility; at least my body felt less stiff. As my movements returned to normal without needing Zhengyang or Ghost Granny's reminders, I knew exactly what to do.
Run!
Run!
Without a second thought, I turned and sprinted away. Ghost Granny and Zhengyang had already taken action before me. Zhengyang was doing relatively well; at least he maintained a certain grace while fleeing, his robe billowing behind him, exuding an air of nonchalance. As for Ghost Granny… her dignity had completely vanished. Despite being in her seventies or eighties, she moved with the speed of a marathon runner from Kenya. The swiftness of her legs was akin to the rotation of wheels; I could only admire her with one word: "impressive!"
If she were to go out and cause trouble, it wouldn't matter how fast you rode your electric bike—you wouldn't escape!
As we took off, it wasn't long before piercing ghostly wails echoed behind us, the shrill cries of Crawling All Over relentless and sharp.
I knew that the last stick of Incense for Summoning Spirits had burned out, and those Demons were already on our tails.
So, I pushed myself to run even harder.
However, since I was the last to act, my speed lagged a bit. Before long, I felt a chilling wind sweep over me from behind, causing me to shiver uncontrollably!
Not good—I was being caught!
I silently cursed my luck when suddenly, a cold hand landed on my shoulder, making a move to grab me!
Damn it, I’m not going down without a fight!
With determination surging within me, I thought that I couldn’t let myself be dragged back and fall flat on my face; that would mean no chance at all. In that instant, I drew the Azure Dark Sword and hurled it toward the group of Birdmen. The blue sword energy flickered as I flipped through the air like a basketball player performing a slam dunk, completing a full three hundred sixty-degree turn.
It was then that I finally saw what was trying to grab me—it was none other than the Trickster Ghost that had blocked my path earlier because it thought my fate was weak and tried to extort money from me!
Having consumed the most Incense for Summoning Spirits and gained some Daoist Practice as well, it was faster than the other Ghost Residents, which is why it was the first to catch up with me!
What is a Fated Encounter? This is what a Fated Encounter looks like!
This thing has brought me to this point. If I hadn't been afraid of alarming the other Evil Spirits back then, I would have already sliced its Ghost Head off. And now it has come right to my door?
However, at this moment, I have already disturbed the entire city of Ghost Residents, so there’s no point in holding back anymore!
Time waits for no one!
In a Lightning Fast moment, a series of thoughts flashed through my mind. I gripped my sword tightly and thrust it into the belly of this Trickster Ghost. To my surprise, the sword pierced through without any resistance, and with a "thud," it directly penetrated the chest of the Trickster Ghost.
Instantly, the ghostly face of this creature changed; its sinister grin vanished. It withdrew its ghostly claws from my shoulder and grasped the Azure Dark Sword that had pierced its chest. With a chilling scream, it let out a wail of agony!
At that moment, I finally landed on my feet, nearly stumbling but managing to steady myself. Without a second thought, I turned and ran.
As for this Trickster Ghost...
I had no intention of letting it go. Raising the Hundred Slicing Blade with one hand, I impaled it on the tip of the blade. It continued to shriek in terror as its Eerie Energy scattered around me, which I transformed into Killing Intent and absorbed little by little!
Perhaps my commotion startled Zhengyang and Ghost Granny ahead; in the midst of my escape, they even glanced back at me.
"Whoa! So brutal?"
Ghost Granny let out a piercing scream that was even more jarring than a ghost's wail! She was running so fast she looked like she might collapse!
I ignored her and focused on the desperate cries of the Trickster Ghost as I ran for my life. After several minutes of frantic escape, the Trickster Ghost finally quieted down, reduced to nothing but ashes!
However, I still couldn't relax. Behind me, a horde of Dirty Things was hot on my heels. How could I dare to let my guard down for even a moment? I could only grit my teeth and run for my life. Under the thrill of death, my potential was thoroughly unleashed. I sprinted for two or three miles without stopping; my physical strength was already depleted, yet I felt no fatigue. I was merely lightheaded from lack of oxygen, relying solely on sheer willpower to keep going.
During this process, we had already passed through the commoners' settlement and entered the area inhabited by nobles. A large group of elegantly dressed Dirty Things emerged to block our path, making our escape even more difficult. Just when we were about to run out of breath, we stumbled into another settlement!
The buildings here were suddenly much taller and more magnificent; it would not be an exaggeration to call them grand. Many statues adorned these structures.
I realized we must have entered the Temple of Poseidonia, a place of pilgrimage for the residents of Atlantis. Nearly half of the temples from Nine Thousand Years Ago were gathered here in Atlantis.
As soon as we stepped inside, we noticed that the ghostly wails behind us had weakened significantly. Turning around, we saw that the Demons that had chased us through dozens of streets were now lingering outside the many temples, too afraid to enter!
Could it be that this temple had the power to suppress these Demons? The answer was clearly no! Perhaps these temples did possess sacred power to ward off evil Nine Thousand Years Ago, but that was a long time ago. Now, this place had long since turned into a ghost town; no one had worshipped the temples in nine thousand years, and there were no offerings made. The sacred power of these temples must have dissipated long ago!
So, the only possibility for why these Demons dared not enter was that there were even more formidable Dirty Things within—things they could not provoke!
Ghostly nature is akin to beastly nature.
Animals surviving in deep mountains and forests all adhere to this rule—within the territory of the beast king at the top of the food chain, all other beasts retreat.
Here, it must be the same; what could make those Ghost Residents retreat would have to be even stronger Dirty Things.
