Bald Qiang and the others, my long-time partners, reacted swiftly as soon as they heard my alarm. They immediately scattered in all directions.
However, my shout startled the seemingly dead Serpent Woman. The others retreated quickly, but the creature's snake tail began to writhe. With a loud crack, it sprang up from the ground, opening its mouth to emit a piercing shriek. A red tongue flicked out from its mouth, filled with sharp teeth that completely lacked the charm typically associated with the Serpent Woman; instead, it appeared ferocious. After a long howl, it followed up with a series of obscure syllables!
That... was Cursed Script!
What on earth is this? If it’s alive, how can it use Cursed Script?
During my boredom on the deserted island, I learned some Cursed Script, so I could barely understand it. The pronunciation of this language is extremely strange, and its vocabulary differs greatly from Mandarin, making direct translation impossible. The following words from the Serpent Woman are entirely my interpretation.
If my translation is correct, it was shouting about an enemy attack! Enemy attack!
It seems Ghost Granny was right; this creature is indeed related to the Atlanteans who vanished nearly ten thousand years ago. It can speak Ancient Greek; even if it’s not a descendant of the Atlanteans, its presence here and ability to speak that era's language clearly indicates a connection to Atlantis.
The Serpent Woman was obviously signaling to its companions. It appears we have inadvertently stumbled into the lair of the Serpent Women; this Underground World was likely created by them.
Regardless of the situation, I couldn’t allow this creature to keep shouting. I had experienced the attacking power of these Serpent Women firsthand; they are incredibly strong. If we attracted a large group, even with our modern weaponry, we might not be able to withstand them.
The situation was too urgent for me to worry about leaving any survivors. So after the Serpent Woman let out two more roars, I twisted my waist and delivered a side kick directly to its heart. The force sent the Serpent Woman flying three or four meters away, but surprisingly, even that didn’t stop its loud cries; throughout it all, its voice never wavered.
Gradually, I realized that if this creature truly evolved from humans, then this subspecies had undergone an extraordinary evolution. Not only had their appearance changed dramatically, but their internal structure had also transformed; they produced sound without straining their abdomen at all—essentially relying solely on their vocal cords.
As I watched this creature's increasingly terrifying roars, I steeled myself and stepped forward, raising my Azure Dark Sword to slash at its neck!
The Serpent Woman possessed high intelligence and likely understood that capture meant death. Therefore, when I swung my sword at it, it didn’t even attempt to dodge and continued its loud cries.
I struck quickly and fiercely.
With a sharp crack, I sliced through the scales on its neck. In an instant, those scales shattered, and blood mixed with broken scales splattered onto my face—cold blood that felt icy against my skin. The scales were incredibly hard; even the faint sting from them hitting my cheek was painful!
This strike cleanly severed the Serpent Woman's neck. Its cries abruptly ceased with a thud as it collapsed to the ground and lay still.
This time, I believe it is truly dead.
Everything that happened felt lengthy, but it all transpired in the blink of an eye. By the time I dealt with the Serpent Woman, the others finally snapped back to reality.
"What incredible vitality!"
I looked at the corpse of the Serpent Woman on the ground, still shaken. I frowned and said, "It shouldn't be like this. Bald Qiang's shot definitely pierced its heart; there was no way it could survive! How could this happen..."
Ghost Granny let out a cold laugh. "What if its heart isn't on that parallel line? Or perhaps it simply doesn't have a heart!"
I was taken aback.
Ghost Granny's words weren't unfounded. Indeed, when I first engaged with the Serpent Woman, I noticed that its body structure was different from that of a human. It made sense that its heart would be positioned differently.
"Come on, why are we dragging this out?"
Bear Big waved his hand dismissively and said, "We won't get anywhere discussing this. Let's just open it up and find out where its weaknesses lie!"
With that, Bear Big pulled a Swiss army knife from his military boots, weighed it in his hand, and walked toward the Serpent Woman.
We all turned our heads away; after all, the Serpent Woman was an intelligent being. It felt cruel to dissect its corpse after it had died.
But it was something that had to be done.
The vitality of these Serpent Women was incredibly strong. We needed to understand their anatomy because, judging by the current situation, there seemed to be quite a few more of them around. If we encountered them again without knowing their weak points, we would be at a significant disadvantage in battle. For example, while a human's fatal spot is typically the chest, that might not apply to these creatures. If we stabbed them in the chest thinking it would finish them off, they could very well turn around and retaliate!
Understanding them was imperative. Since Bear Big was willing to take on this task, we were more than happy to support him and avoid turning away from what needed to be done.
However, just as Bear Big crouched down and was about to cut open the Serpent Woman's chest, an unexpected roar suddenly shattered the silence of the Underground World, followed by a series of incomprehensible utterances.
Cursed Script again!
Sure enough, we had stirred up more Serpent Women in this area. The Cursed Script came out abruptly and unexpectedly; I was momentarily stunned but soon grasped what they meant—the enemy was here!?
So… they had already discovered us? And they must be very close! If they hadn't locked onto us, they wouldn't have reacted like this!
My expression changed instantly as I shouted, "Prepare for battle! It seems we're surrounded!"
Our team was made up of seasoned veterans, accustomed to the winds and rains of danger. In fact, they should have realized we were discovered the moment that first shrill cry erupted. Their spirits were already heightened, and as soon as they heard my voice, they quickly formed a protective circle back to back.
Seeing them huddle together, I didn’t dare to delay. I quickly turned on my flashlight and began searching the area, trying to locate where those Serpent Women were hiding. As I turned around with the flashlight, I suddenly found one of the Serpent Women lurking just behind me, concealed in a corner of what appeared to be a dilapidated house. It had silently crept within seven or eight meters of me. As I spun around, I was met with its blood-red eyes. The proximity allowed me to see its black scales raised in a menacing grin, revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth, as if it were grinning wickedly.
In that instant, as I turned, it lunged at me. Its tail slammed against the ground, propelling it into the air while its bone spear aimed directly for my throat!
This creature was truly formidable!
I silently cursed myself for underestimating their intelligence and combat skills. This one was charging straight at me with tremendous force; I knew I couldn’t confront it head-on. So, I rolled to the side just in time to evade it. The Serpent Woman crashed down behind me. At that moment, Bald Qiang's voice rang out: “Get down and don’t move!”
No sooner had he spoken than there was a loud bang!
Bald Qiang fired his gun and took down the Serpent Woman instantly. I scrambled to my feet and realized that the creature had collapsed, its head blown apart, blood pooling around it with brain matter splattered everywhere.
When I turned back to look, my heart sank!
Behind us loomed a mass of these Serpent Women, dark and ominous as they slithered from the shadows—an endless sea of them…
