"What exactly do you want?" I asked, staring at the figure in the black robe. What treasures could I possibly have? Did he want this Azure Dark Sword? I drew the sword, its deep blue blade illuminating the dim tomb, casting an eerie chill around us. I stepped forward, "This sword? Fine, I'll give it to you."
The figure chuckled darkly, "Just a broken sword. Does it really catch my eye?"
"Then what do you want?"
Impatience was evident in his eyes, and a hint of irritation crept into his voice. "My patience is very limited."
I hesitated for a moment. Could it be that he was after the Mausoleum Secrets? "Alright then, the Mausoleum Secrets should be what you need?"
"Heh heh heh, playing dumb?" The black-robed figure laughed deeply, his laughter tinged with a volcanic rage. "It seems I was too friendly before, and now you've become reckless. I'll ask you one last time: will you hand it over or not?"
I was momentarily stunned. Was there anything more powerful than this?
"What do you want?"
The figure did not respond.
A wave of dark energy began to emanate from him.
"It seems you won't shed tears until you see the coffin," he said as he advanced step by step.
I felt a surge of anger rising within me. Was he really ignoring the Mausoleum Secrets? Did he intend to take my Spirit Yang Body?
A chilling laugh echoed like that of a night owl. The black-robed figure casually flicked his sleeve and grabbed a massive stone from the tomb's interior. With a gentle squeeze, the stone shattered into pieces with a deafening crunch, dust flying everywhere as he tightly clenched his fist.
He raised his hand, shaking off some of the dust before pulling out a wet wipe from his robe to clean his hands thoroughly.
He suddenly made a move to attack!
Boom!
I felt a deafening roar in my ears.
At that moment, I sensed a metallic taste in my throat, and a mouthful of crimson blood burst forth. Then, a sharp pain shot through my chest, and I was sent flying backward.
All I could remember was this; just as my eyes were about to close, I caught a glimpse of the figure in the black robe. He wore an evil smile, and then everything went dark.
...
I don't know how much time passed.
I slowly began to awaken.
My body felt as if it were submerged in a hot spring, a warm sensation enveloping me, bringing an indescribable comfort. It was as if I had returned to the amniotic fluid of the womb, a profound sense of tranquility washing over me—mysterious and unfathomable, leaving me at a loss for words.
I shook my head with effort, my thoughts gradually becoming clearer.
What is happening?
Where am I?
Wasn't I killed by that figure in the black robe?
A wave of confusion washed over me.
Surrounded by darkness, it felt as if I were submerged in some kind of liquid, an utterly strange sensation.
I wasn't dead?
Had someone saved me?
What surprised me even more was that the intense Killing Intent I had felt earlier had now calmed significantly, almost as if it had been absorbed into my body. I no longer experienced the torment I had before.
At that moment—
"Ah, you're awake?"
A familiar voice reached my ears from nearby.
It was the voice of the figure in the black robe.
Hearing that voice sent a shiver down my spine, and I immediately realized I had underestimated the situation.
"Where am I?" I asked, striking out at my surroundings, feeling as though I was encased in hard metal.
I discovered that my limbs seemed unable to move.
In the liquid surrounding me, there was a strange and terrifying pressure that held me tightly in place, forcing me into a seated position as if I were meditating.
"Don't be afraid, you're in a very safe place now." The voice from the figure in the black robe carried a chilling mockery. "You little mouse, you're not being honest at all. Since you won't hand over your treasures, I suppose I'll have to find another way to deal with you."
In an instant, a strange sense of dread flashed through my mind.
"Who would have thought, who would have thought? It's truly unexpected that you possess the rare Spirit Yang Body. Hahaha, what perfect material for refining puppets! A Spirit Yang Body was seen a thousand seven hundred years ago, and I never imagined I'd encounter one now. What a delightful surprise!" The voice of the black-robed figure was filled with a perverse excitement and pride.
"Spirit Yang Body? He knows about that? Thank goodness. So it seems he wants something else?"
I was utterly perplexed!
The black robe continued to laugh maniacally, "As they say, when you lose something in the east, you gain something in the mulberry fields. Hahaha, I'm not being treated poorly at all! It doesn't matter if I can't find the treasures; once I turn you into a Spirit Yang Puppet, I'll be unstoppable! Hahaha, this is an opportunity rarer than any treasure!"
The sound of his ecstatic laughter echoed from all directions.
Then I felt a bright light above me, blinding me momentarily.
After a long while!
The face of the black-robed figure appeared above me, twisted with excitement bordering on savagery.
As I adjusted to the light, I realized I was trapped inside a massive wooden coffin. The coffin had been modified with a window at the top.
Suddenly, there came a knocking sound from the coffin walls.
"It's been two nights without a sound. Are you dead? The Corpse Oil must be fully absorbed by now, hahaha! I've finally waited for this moment. If I'm not mistaken, you must be too weak to even speak now, right?"
The sinister voice of the figure in the black robe echoed in.
I did not respond immediately.
"Have you really died? What a disappointment. You didn't even last until the Seventh. According to the Puppet Scripture, the best puppets are forged while the subject is still alive. But never mind, as long as I have a puppet..." The voice of the Divine Robe continued from outside.
Hearing his words, I couldn't help but tease him back: "Nonsense! I'm alive and kicking! Is that all you've got? You've really let me down..."
There was a moment of silence outside.
Then, the voice of the black-robed figure erupted in anger: "You little brat! Fine, just wait. I'll make you cry soon enough..."
It was time for me to unleash my ultimate move.
Really...
I was about to go insane.
It seemed he was about to lose control; my taunts had clearly rattled him. Suddenly, I saw countless venomous insects pouring in through his mouth, quickly wrapping around me with their icy bodies mixed with Corpse Oil, biting me from head to toe!
Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise! Thanks to him, it was precisely these insects that allowed me to hold on until the very last moment.
