This thought took root in my mind, difficult to suppress. I knew that from the moment I set foot on this island, or perhaps even back when I headed to the Nine-Tiered Corpse Tower, I had formed a bond with that organization. This meant it was either you die or I perish...
I decided to head towards the Eye of the Vortex; it was undoubtedly a prime location for nurturing corpses!
Directly assaulting the Eye of the Vortex and striking at the Heart of the Three Talents Gathering Evil Formation would deliver a fatal blow. With our combined strength, this was the best plan.
After walking for about half an hour into the mountains with Wan, we passed through a dense forest and climbed up a peak, only to find ourselves in a Mountain Hollow that looked vastly different from the previous mountain. The valley nestled between the peaks was hidden away in a low-lying area.
This Mountain Hollow was shrouded in mist, exuding an unsettling aura.
The path beneath our feet became increasingly muddy, and the dew on the trees grew heavier. Not long after, dew began to condense at the tips of my hair and trickle down. After walking a bit further, I stepped onto a damp slab of blue stone adorned with patches of Moss. As soon as my foot landed, I felt it slip beneath me, and before I knew it, I had fallen hard, stars dancing before my eyes.
"Brother Xia, that looked painful! Get up quickly!" Wan stepped forward and extended a hand, struggling to pull me up. I smiled faintly at her and said, "Thank you!" To my surprise, her face flushed instantly!
Suddenly, a shadow darted past me and quickly vanished into the Bushes, causing them to rustle ominously. I rubbed my eyes and waited for my vision to clear, but there was nothing there. It seemed I had been seeing things due to my fall. I asked Wan, "Did you see anything?" She shook her head!
We continued walking for about ten minutes when my foot slipped again. Instinctively, my hands shot out to grab a vine. I leaned back sharply, my body forming an acute angle with the ground.
Just as I was about to congratulate myself on my quick reflexes, something felt off. In an instant, I realized the problem lay with the vine in my hand; it was thick and slippery...
When I shifted my gaze to the vine, it startled me. That wasn’t just any vine; it was clearly a massive black snake that was subtly wriggling! Terrified, I gasped and let go immediately!
I wasn't afraid of such creatures normally!
As the saying goes: once bitten by a snake, ten years afraid of ropes!
Ever since my encounter with the Earth Dragon last time, I had developed a psychological fear of these cold-blooded monstrosities without limbs! Panicking, I scrambled to get up and retreated hastily.
"Ah..."
Wan suddenly screamed from behind me.
I quickly turned around, and upon seeing the bowl, I was so startled that I trembled. "Does the Spirit Ghost also fear snakes?"
The Spirit Ghost generally resists positive entities, but when it comes to negative creatures like snakes and cats, it not only poses no threat to them but can actually absorb some Killing Intent, enhancing the Spirit Ghost's abilities. Especially with snakes, they tend to flee at the sight of a Yin Ghost!
"The bowl is scared. Brother Xia, hug me!" Her tone made me feel nauseous, and I almost spat out a mouthful of blood. Reluctantly shaking my head, I stepped forward and hugged her tightly. She laughed heartily, "What a silly brother!" Suddenly her tone became urgent as she pointed ahead and shouted, "Brother Xia, what’s that dark mass over there?"
Following the direction of her finger, I immediately broke into a cold sweat, feeling a chill rise from my feet. To my horror, it was a massive Snake Pile—an indistinguishable mass of snakes, likely numbering in the thousands, intertwined and coiled together, with hundreds more scattered about.
"What’s the difference between this and a Snake Pit…"
Legend has it that King Shang Zhou favored Daji. To punish the palace maids who offended her, she had a large pit dug and filled with thousands of venomous snakes. Anyone who crossed her would have their clothes stripped off and be thrown into the Snake Pit to be devoured by the snakes while their screams echoed for miles. Daji would watch with delight as the victim writhed in pain, their face contorted in agony until they became nothing but bones.
"Brother Xia, I think this is the Earth Evil from the Three Talents Gathering Evil Formation. The earth's energy nurtures these poisonous snakes. They were born to guard this formation! To break it, we probably need to use the Art of the Insect King?"
"The Art of the Insect King? You actually know about this?"
"Yes! Brother Xia, these are all things my master told you before..." She suddenly realized something was off and paused before correcting herself. "These are things my master told me!"
"Oh! So is there a way to break it?"
"Yes! There is, but I've forgotten some details. Let me think for a moment..."
While she pondered, I carefully observed the group of snakes. As my gaze met theirs, it felt as though they were staring back at us. Countless eyes fixed on me sent chills down my spine! This scene was too terrifying. But soon enough, a surprising thought flashed through my mind!
I once saw a television show where an Indian man played a flute to charm a poisonous snake. The snake swayed and danced to the music, and after about seven or eight minutes, it was hypnotized! The snake allowed itself to be coiled around his waist like a belt.
Can sound control poisonous snakes?
If you believe in this trick, then just wait to be sent off to your demise!
It was actually a magician's trick.
Back in the Tang Dynasty, Master Xuanzang journeyed westward in search of teachings and brought back a copy of the Yoga Sutra. This scripture contained a set of movements designed to subdue various venomous snakes. Although the master did not name these movements and even deleted them from the text, an unabridged version of the Tocharian Yoga Sutra was preserved in the Dunhuang Caves, which included these movements.
The movements were simple and straightforward.
Let me briefly describe the background of this set of movements. Master Nagarjuna, the first patriarch of Zen Buddhism in China, was known as Dharma. In India, the eighth patriarch was Nagarjuna himself. At one time, while promoting his teachings under a great Bodhi Tree, a large python stood upright, intending to swallow the master.
Nearby, a group of Shudras were startled and hid aside to watch. They believed this was a trial for the master and dared not approach to drive it away, fearing it would disrupt their teacher's enlightenment.
At that moment, Master Nagarjuna emerged from meditation and had already noticed the giant snake. He first pointed to the moon with his left hand, drawing a circle in the air. Then he pointed to the ground with his right hand, directing his index finger downward. With a sudden shout of "Kasyapa Prajna!" the snake immediately collapsed to the ground, allowing Master Nagarjuna to control it! The observing Shudras were astonished and prostrated themselves, all converting to his teachings!
In fact, this set of movements originated from Buddha's birth; when Buddha was born, he pointed one hand to the sky and one hand to the earth, proclaiming that his teachings were supreme above and below! That sudden shout had a name known as "Bamboo Strike." The meaning of this incantation is enlightenment!
"Brother Xia, I have an idea!" Wan exclaimed excitedly as he suddenly jumped up.
