I wove through the bushes and along the forest path, steadily making my way toward my destination. To my surprise, I finally discovered a clue near a strange tree!
It was a gnarled, ancient tree that, despite being summer, had shed its leaves. At the base of the tree was a dark hole, within which lay a totem stained with blood.
Seeing the totem outside, I immediately concluded that the person who cast the curse must be nearby!
This totem was completely different from those used for worship!
If it were a worship totem, it would typically be much larger and exaggerated in design, often placed near a tribe, not hidden away in this wilderness.
Cursed totems can only be found in the wilderness!
Why?
Because humans and spirits walk different paths; they are ultimately worlds apart. Inviting spirits into a tribe is extremely detrimental to the worshippers. First, it would invite eerie energy into their dwelling, affecting the feng shui. Second, the eerie energy from dirty things can harm the living; living alongside such entities for years can turn even good people into sickly beings!
Of course, those in the know understand this practice well!
The blood-stained totem beneath this tree clearly indicated that these cannibal zombies were its doing!
I approached the totem and examined it closely. The patterns on it were bizarre, with smooth lines that maintained an airy quality while exuding an unsettling aura; this was clearly a totem curse!
Suddenly, a strange cackling laughter erupted behind me. Instantly, my hair stood on end. I turned around to see that filthy creature standing not far behind me, grinning maniacally. Upon noticing I had turned my head, it made a grotesque face at me before turning and running away...
Damn it, is it mocking me?
My eye twitched violently as I drew my Azure Dark Sword with a clang and gave chase!
Cackling…
The Demon laughed eerily, seemingly delighted, bouncing ahead with surprising speed. In the blink of an eye, it darted out from behind the Strange Tree and into a pitch-black Thicket.
I took a glance at the Thicket; it was dark inside, devoid of any light. If I ventured in there, I would likely be ambushed by that Demon!
After hesitating for a moment, I decided to pursue it. However, for safety's sake, I arranged for a bowl to hide in a nearby Bush. If there was any danger, it could launch a timely rescue.
Once everything was set, I hurried after it. As I dashed into the forest, I soon spotted the Demon perched on a tree branch, making faces at me!
But it wasn’t cute…
The way this creature made faces was genuinely frightening!
Seeing that I had caught up, the Demon turned and ran again, forcing me to continue my chase!
After several rounds of this stop-and-go pursuit, I gradually sensed something was off—this creature seemed to be luring me into chasing it. Every time I was about to lose sight of it, it would pause and wait for me. The first couple of times, I thought it was just teasing me, but after three or four times, if I didn’t realize what was happening, I might as well have run headfirst into a wall.
At that moment, the creature stopped once more ahead of me. Immediately after, a deep male voice echoed from within the dense forest. What was worse, I couldn’t understand a word of it.
I sensed that the newcomer meant trouble; the voice’s owner was definitely no good!
I had fallen into a trap!
If I didn’t figure out what was happening now, I might truly run headlong into disaster!
It seemed… without realizing it, I had stepped right into a massive pitfall!
That Demon had clearly intended to lead me here because this place… was remote enough!
It was entirely instinctive. I tightened my grip on the Azure Dark Sword, feeling the coolness of the hilt, and finally found my own sense of reliance, calming my heart considerably.
In this situation, I could only rely on myself and the sword in my hand.
After exhaling deeply, regardless of whether the Birdman could understand Chinese or not, I shouted, "Ming Ren doesn't engage in shady business; come out here!"
"Tsk tsk! Chitter chatter..." The man's voice echoed once more, followed by a rustling sound of footsteps coming from deep within the forest!
To my surprise, seven Zombies were trailing behind him, with a short figure in the middle whose features were shadowy—he looked alive. The remaining six were definitely Zombies!
Just one glance was enough for me to identify these individuals and even ascertain their purpose.
That short figure had to be the wizard.
Wizards were categorized into two types: White and Black. The White Wizard made a living through astrology and rituals, akin to monks or Taoists. In contrast, the Dark Sorcerer was malevolent, often cursing with their own blood and dealing with Evil Spirits for extended periods. This took a toll on their health; due to blood loss and Eerie Energy entering their bodies, not only did their personalities change drastically, but their appearances did as well—most had a shadowy aura and were exceptionally frail.
So when that thin man appeared, I knew he was the main character.
He dripped a drop of blood onto a totem. The totem faintly glimmered with black light, and several orb-like black lights immediately shot towards the surrounding six Zombies.
It seemed the Dark Sorcerer was about to make his move. The other Zombies crouched low, their arms swinging like pendulums as they launched an attack toward me!
Damn it! If I didn't fight now, when would I?
I gritted my teeth, ready to fight for my life. Just then, a cold female voice came from behind me: "What’s this? A few people conspiring against my brother? That doesn’t seem fair at all! Things should be done fairly!"
It was Wan!
However, her voice surprised me; this was not the Wan I knew. This was the one who had taken over my body multiple times—she was not the same person. Yet standing before me was clearly the same individual. I could confirm this was Wan. If it had been before I knew her, taking down these Birdmen would have been no problem at all. But given Wan's current abilities, I felt quite uneasy...
"Are you crazy? The bowl!"
At that moment, the bowl had already stood beside me.
The bowl glanced at me and said calmly, "Brother Xia, you stand aside. I want to play with these few."
Hearing this, I immediately felt displeased and shook my head. "Look at how capable you are!"
"I said to stand aside!"
At this point, the bowl seemed a bit impatient and couldn't help but snort coldly, "Do you want me to move you aside myself?" Seeing her imposing demeanor, I was completely intimidated and obediently stepped aside.
Once I moved away, the bowl grabbed hold of those zombies. Although she looked delicate, her grip was surprisingly strong. As she seized the shoulder of one zombie, I heard several cracking sounds. With a light tug, the zombie was suddenly sent flying over ten meters away, landing in a heap of three or four.
"Geez!"
The Dark Sorcerer screamed at that moment, and instantly six zombies charged toward me. Damn it, why were they coming after me?
I saw the bowl snatch my Azure Dark Sword and swung it back and forth in the air, forcing the six zombies back. Then she leaped into the midst of those zombies and began to fight them fiercely.
