According to the records in "Mausoleum Secrets": "Ghosts, due to their obsession, have an unbreakable attachment to the mortal realm. They refuse to enter reincarnation and linger in places thick with eerie energy, cultivating for a thousand years. They do not kill or harm others, harboring no resentment in their hearts. Thus, they attain profound Daoist practice, becoming spirits. Such ghosts are also known as Spirit Ghosts, half-god and half-ghost, capable of competing with some formidable ghost kings from the Underworld and Yin Shuai. I cannot ascertain the depths of this power; not only do they possess ghostly traits, but they also have a physical form. In essence, she is a Yin Immortal!"
However, based on my analysis, after her body was damaged, although her Spirit Body temporarily recovered, it was akin to a fleeting moment of life. Soon, probably within ten or so moments, she would lose all her magical power and become like an ordinary mortal—albeit one who does not age or die. Moreover, her true nature would be laid bare.
In other words, she would become an ordinary person, and a remarkably pure girl at that...
But right now, she could easily crush me hundreds of times with just one hand!
Although I had some affection for her, I dared not offend such a fierce being lightly. It seemed that this unreliable Furball had indeed come up with a good idea; without a second thought, I agreed!
I patted Furball's head and smiled cheerfully: "Furball, who would have thought you were so young yet had so many clever ideas! No need for more; I'll prepare according to your suggestion!" Furball nodded and retreated back into my backpack to continue sleeping. Before leaving, it tossed out a remark: "Actually, from your fate, I can see this is also a trial for you!"
A trial? Previously, the Three Mao Ancestor had mentioned my fate concerning relationships. The reason I hadn't been harmed by the Evil Spirit was closely related to this fate. However, at that time, I didn't care much about it. As the old saying goes, man can conquer fate; I had confidence in changing my destiny. This time, perhaps pretending to marry would allow me to escape misfortune!
In ancient times, the notion of unavoidable trials could manifest through various changes around us. For instance, a flagpole breaking or a steed rearing up in fright. Reflecting on myself, until now there had been no signs of misfortune! With this reassurance, I boldly declared.
"What does fate matter? As long as I am unwilling, I refuse to believe that fate can dictate my life!"
I questioned my own heart: "Now I want to ask your true intentions. Have you really thought this through?" Another voice replied: "I have made up my mind; this is my decision."
At that moment, I stood up and walked towards her Dune. She had her back to me and seemed quite excited. She was gazing at the moon in the sky; its pale light flowed like water, soft as gauze. The brightness enveloped us suddenly; everything felt so familiar as if returning to long ago. I gently tapped her shoulder and nodded. When she turned around and smiled back at me, her eyes instantly sparkled with joy.
In an instant, she jumped up and danced joyfully under the moonlight: "Oh yeah! Master has agreed... Hahaha, that's wonderful!" Suddenly realizing something, she stopped and grabbed my arms with both hands like a girl would do before kicking up a playful dance.
I looked at her as if she were a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl—innocent and youthful in appearance. Though her figure was curvaceous and exuded the aura of a mature woman, there was an undeniable sense of purity about her like a lotus flower emerging unsullied from muddy waters.
For some reason, at that moment as I gazed at her, warmth surged within me and a smile involuntarily appeared on my face.
Yes, it was a warm feeling, one that was indescribable, gentle and pleasant!
Bowl smiled, "Yay! Brother Xia, that's great! I heard 'Meeting After Dusk, the Moon Rises Above the Willow Tops!' It's so romantic! Brother Xia, can you give me a little romantic wedding?"
"Well! But you have to promise me one thing first."
"What is it? Brother Xia, hurry..."
"We may have the title of husband and wife, but we cannot have the reality of it!" Facing such a beautiful woman, it was nonsense to not want the reality. However, I was more worried about the backlash; if I got hit by it, I could end up dead in an instant!
After experiencing so many setbacks and hardships, I cherished life even more!
Love is indeed precious, but freedom is worth even more. If it's for life, both can be sacrificed!
"Hmph! Brother Xia, you're so bad! I'm not that kind of person!" She stuck out her tongue and made a funny face, pulling me to start worshipping the moon.
"What are you doing?"
Bowl giggled, "It's a marriage ritual! We worship the Moon Elder... Listen, every year on the sixth day of the sixth month, if we worship the moon, our wishes will come true!" We knew that at the beginning of each month is the waxing crescent moon, the middle is the full moon, and at the end is the waning crescent. It was now a waxing crescent; although not very bright, in this open desert where there were no obstructions, the reflection of the Dune's shadow was bright enough.
In ancient times in the Western Regions' Thirty-Six Kingdoms, there were many strange customs. I knew of several odd records regarding their weddings. For example, "transitional marriage," where a brother marries his deceased brother's wife; when Wang Zhaojun married Han Xie Chanyu and he died, she married his son Zhuliruo Dihuan. There was also "bloodline marriage," where the An Guo Su Te people took wives and sisters. Then there was "bride kidnapping," which was popular among the Tu Gu Hun people; early on, poor people often formed families through bride kidnapping, which later evolved into a ritual. Both parties consented but still performed a bride kidnapping ceremony. These were forms of marriage along with some customs.
For instance, marrying by worshipping fire or by worshipping the sun. I had never heard of marrying by worshipping the moon; could there be something unusual about it? The Han people worship on July 7th for daughters to pray for skillful husbands. What exactly was Khotan's moon worship custom? Upon hearing it, my eyes widened in surprise: "Worshipping the moon?"
"Uh-huh! This is something I created myself! Of course you wouldn't know... Brother Xia is so silly!"
"I can't believe it. I thought there was something special going on here. Fine, fine, I'll just follow your lead from now on!" I shrugged my shoulders, appearing quite helpless, and prepared to let her take charge.
Upon hearing this, she stopped responding and began giving me instructions. We started getting ready.
This wedding wasn't particularly special... She was bouncing around in Dune, somehow managing to pull Furball out of nowhere and pinning him to the ground. That rascal Furball didn't even move. Then she pulled out several Desert Foxes from the sand. I had no idea where she found a few Hami melons, watermelons, grapes, Pomegranates, and even a Luminous Cup and Wine...
Suddenly, she leaped into the air and performed a somersault, causing White Mist to swirl around her. In an instant, several oddly shaped figures emerged from the mist, all smiling as they bowed to her three times. One of the older figures approached us, took my hand and the bowl's hand, and said, "I respectfully invite the Outsiders to witness the Ghost Marriage of Xia Ji and Wei Chi Wan Er today. Love transcends realms, comparable to Golden Solid. I humbly request blessings for the newlyweds from Earth and Heaven!"
Once he finished speaking, those strange individuals scattered flowers into the air. Upon closer inspection, they were Spider Lilies. Another person suddenly breathed fire into the sky, creating a display that resembled fireworks bursting forth in flames.
"A Beautiful Day and Scenic Views Reflecting the Heart's Intentions," the elder recited as he grabbed a large Pomegranate and tossed it at us while chanting "Hundred Sons, Hundred Blessings!" The ceremony was quite simple but exhausting for those peculiar people. After we knelt before the moon, flowers bloomed all around us in an instant, creating an ocean of blossoms. The fragrance was intoxicating as we floated through this sea of flowers—truly marvelous.
I felt a surge of excitement in my heart when I heard a voice nearby. Looking closely, I saw Furball clutching a Hami melon and devouring it voraciously—he had eaten more than half! Another glutton.
"Brother Xia, we are now husband and wife. From now on, you can call me Wan. Wherever you go, I will follow you. How about that? And which dog is so cute?" With that, she tugged at Furball's neck fur, who looked quite displeased.
"Let's go back to Rongcheng!"
Now that I think about it, returning to Rongcheng was one of my greatest mistakes. This decision directly pushed me into an extremely dangerous situation. Yet, I had no choice but to go back.
