"Let go! Soro, you better let him go!" A voice came, almost a roar. I turned my remaining glimmer of sight toward it, and Dong Tong drew a dagger, holding it to his neck with a cold smile. "If you don't let go, Soro, I'll destroy this body!"
"Are you insane? Once you merge with her soul, you can become a demon and escape your early death!" The Rakshasa seemed somewhat afraid, tightening its grip on my hand, which loosened slightly.
Suddenly, a woman in white descended from the air, her presence imposing yet gentle. A long sword slowly unsheathed from her side. She was extraordinarily beautiful and spoke softly, " Dong Tong, turn back while there's still time. Can you not let go of this thousand-year entanglement?"
"Is it you again? After seventeen hundred years, you still won't leave me alone?" The Rakshasa paused for a moment before anger took over. It released its grip on me. However, a terrifying atmosphere surged forth, tension rising palpably.
For some reason, upon seeing her, I felt an immediate sense of relief and warmth. There was something familiar about her. Even in my dazed state, I realized, "Is it really you?" The woman nodded.
"Haha! Another forty years have passed. This Nine Extremes Killing Intent has multiplied my power several times over; you're probably no match for me now! Haha!" The Rakshasa laughed triumphantly as its claws twisted like a fork, joints cracking ominously. Zhengyang sensed the energy and began to set up formations beneath his feet, channeling the power of the Seven Sorrows Talisman. It exploded with a flash of light that coiled like a dragon, making the Rakshasa's face turn even darker.
Upon seeing Wei Chi Wan Er, Dong Tong paused slightly. Although he scoffed coldly, tears filled his eyes as he slowly lowered his head.
The Rakshasa's Killing Intent suddenly surged as it leaped forward to engage Wei Chi Wan Er. Shadows whirled as sword energy clashed violently; the Rakshasa roared like thunder while Wei Chi Wan Er stood elegantly in white. They fought fiercely from a distance of several feet apart. The Rakshasa's ten massive fingers spun and danced as they met the long sword, creating a deafening buzz in the air.
Wei Chi Wan Er drew another sword from her waist. Though her sword techniques were different in each hand, they complemented each other perfectly—her left-hand sword attacked forward while her right-hand sword struck from behind. The Rakshasa found itself unable to retreat or advance; every strike from both swords targeted multiple points, leaving the Rakshasa overwhelmed and unable to defend itself.
After exchanging fifty or sixty blows, the Rakshasa seemed to falter. In a fit of rage and humiliation, it picked up a piece of Crystal Coffin material and hoisted it onto its shoulder, shouting loudly: "Take this!" With a thunderous crash, the piece was hurled at Wei Chi Wan Er. The white figure swiftly dodged aside. The Crystal Coffin material smashed into the wall with a tremendous noise that shook the entire tomb chamber and sent countless fragments tumbling down.
The unique aspect of the Crystal Coffin was its inner and outer layers; there was another coffin inside. When the outer Crystal Coffin shattered completely, the inner coffin also ruptured in mid-air, scattering crystals everywhere—creating what looked like a world made of diamonds. Seeing this made Big Mouth Lee green with envy; he stood frozen in awe!
A wave of White Mist rose from beneath the Crystal Coffin, enveloping everything around it. Sounds of battle echoed within the mist. I understood that it was caused by the flow of Killing Intent. Suddenly, the Seven Sorrows Talisman exploded, breaking through the last remnants of restraint from the Rakshasa and completely disintegrating it. Moments later, the White Mist vanished!
The tomb chamber fell into an eerie silence. The area where the wall had cracked quickly froze over with ice crystals that spread across like glass over a mirror surface. Only Wei Chi Wan Er remained visible; the Rakshasa had disappeared!
A corpse lay sprawled out, severed into several pieces. Beside it was a half-ethereal figure—clearly indicating that Wei Chi Wan Er's body had been destroyed, leaving her gravely injured. Just moments ago when the Killing Intent surged dramatically, she had been struck by the Rakshasa; she was on the brink of collapse!
The formidable strength of ghosts often lay hidden within their corpses. These remains acted like batteries for their dark energy; once damaged, their power source was cut off. No matter how powerful a spirit might be, its existence would only last for so long. Yet at that moment, I felt like an utter fool for not realizing how astonishingly deep this secret ran—I was merely a pawn being toyed with!
Just then, out of nowhere, the Rakshasa floated down with an eerie laugh. The only one capable of opposing it—Wei Chi Wan Er—was facing down Soul Shattering...
I knew that we were no longer capable of stopping him; from here on, there was only one way forward—death!
However, Dong Tong seemed to have just regained her senses. She quickly pulled out a dagger and pressed it against her throat. With a sudden force, blood gushed from her neck as she shouted, "Soro, step back!"
Indeed, that shout made the Rakshasa retreat three or four steps, momentarily stunned.
It was clear that it genuinely feared Dong Tong taking her own life right there. Although I didn't understand why it wanted to live, it was evidently cautious and terrified of such an event occurring!
The Rakshasa spoke irritably, "Put down that thing on your neck, and I'll let your companion go!"
"I'm sorry, but I can't agree to that!"
Dong Tong added, "You must also let the woman on the ground go!"
"I agree to your terms!"
"I want to speak with that Taoist priest alone; do not interfere!" Dong Tong pointed at Zhengyang. The Rakshasa nodded in acknowledgment. Dong Tong led Zhengyang outside, and I couldn't tell what they were discussing. Zhengyang's expression changed repeatedly, and at one point, Dong Tong even knelt down. In the end, Zhengyang turned his back as if he had agreed.
"You all can leave now; I never want to see you again!"
"Why? What is going on?" I asked in confusion, feeling as though the entire world was hiding something from me. I hoped for a reasonable answer. Zhengyang waved his hand dismissively, indicating for us to hurry and leave.
We noticed the Rakshasa blocking the path, sensing an ominous intent. At that moment, the Rakshasa transformed into a woman and gently caressed Dong Tong's cheek with a sorrowful smile. "Why do this? That child can be released; perhaps we can find a replacement. But Wei Chi Wan Er has escaped; you... sigh! Why must you suffer like this..." The hidden meaning in those words left me utterly bewildered. The Rakshasa shouted fiercely, "Leave! Don't you dare linger here!"
With a wave of its hand, a surge of Eerie Energy transformed into a powerful wind that lifted the Crystal Coffin's stone slab and struck violently against the ceiling of the tomb. The entire tomb cracked open, revealing an inner chamber that contained a pool with swimming fish and some strange creatures.
"Fool! I agreed to let them go this time; if I encounter them again, I won't be so polite!" The Rakshasa gazed deeply at Dong Tong with a sigh. "Foolish girl, how did you become so naïve after coming to this world? Initially, I had you lure that child here to entice this woman for you..." Suddenly, the Rakshasa changed its demeanor and waved its hands. A strong gust of wind swept us all into the pool.
We floated up from the pool, and Zhengyang and I pulled Big Mouth Lee, Bald Qiang, and Wei Chi Wan Er onto the shore. We were still catching our breath. Faintly, I could see ripples under the water, as if I could gaze down through the surface.
Standing on the shore, I felt an inexplicable fear at how smoothly we had surfaced. It seemed as if some strange force had lifted us out of the water. We had ascended from a depth of over a hundred meters in just a minute—what was going on?
Our escape was all thanks to Dong Tong, who had sacrificed her life for us. No matter how much I speculated at that moment, I couldn’t understand why she would be willing to give up her life for a group of strangers. Was it selflessness? Perhaps not! What hidden truths lay behind her actions? Soon enough, when the truth was revealed, I would find myself engulfed in endless pain.
What occupied my mind now was the debt of gratitude; one should repay even a small favor with a great kindness. How could I ever repay such a significant debt?
I shouted towards the pool, my vision gradually blurring as if looking through frosted glass. The turmoil within me was indescribable. First, I lost Uncorrupted Bones, and then another companion. Despite her many mysteries, she ultimately saved us with her life.
“No!”
I couldn’t help but roar at the pool, my voice seeming to crack open a rift in the air. Dong Tong's cold face grew increasingly blurry before me; though she appeared somewhat aloof, her heart burned with passion. She could be domineering at times, yet she sacrificed herself—how could I ever measure up?
A soft voice reached me; I suspected it was an illusion, yet many years later, that voice would still echo in my ears.
“Master! Farewell! The debts of our past life are repaid!”
