Zhengyang stood firm as the sword energy swept through the army of cockroaches, leaving a ground littered with corpses. With his sword in hand, he charged forward, unstoppable! His momentum was so overwhelming that even Long Ao would bow in respect.
I was stunned; this person's strength was beyond comprehension.
Seeing his high spirits, I couldn't help but shout, "To hell with you! If you want to fight, then come and fight!" This was a declaration of war from Genghis Khan to the Flower Lazi Mo Kingdom in The Secret History of the Mongols, and at that moment, I felt an immense sense of grandeur. I drew my Azure Dark Sword and lunged at the swarm of cockroaches using street fighting techniques.
Inspired by our fervor, a group of people erupted in astonishing roars, their blood surging as if the universe had exploded. After a brief silence, the sound of countless blades slicing through cockroach shells filled the air—crack! Crack! The intensity of the cockroach assault grew stronger, and my attacks became more frenzied!
As we exchanged blows, after a relentless assault, we finally eradicated all the cockroaches on the ground. At that moment, Zhengyang sighed deeply, "I did not wish to take action, but they pushed me too far!" Then he leaped into the air with a mighty roar.
"What’s wrong, Zhengyang?" I asked.
"These cockroaches are all transformed from Vengeful Spirits. If it were not absolutely necessary, how could I bring myself to kill? Very well! Let’s settle this score with him!" Upon hearing this, I was taken aback; it seemed there were even more terrifying entities here. Since he didn’t elaborate further, I dared not ask and decided to press on—whatever came next would have to be faced! Countless cockroaches continued to surge forth.
As soon as we finished speaking, an eerie blue flame flickered throughout the tower… In an instant, it vanished into thin air. We hurriedly climbed up to the second floor, which was about six or seven meters high and slightly larger than the one below. However, it was as silent as if a storm were approaching, making us feel increasingly restless. Scattered around the tower were some chairs that sparkled like crystal; it was unclear what they were made of. This floor resembled a grand banquet hall!
“Damn! Isn’t this the legendary Crystal Wood? Tsk tsk… why is it everywhere?” Big Mouth Lee stared at the hall filled with Crystal Wood furniture, his eyes seemingly turning red, fixated on the sight. Crystal Wood is a type of mineral that formed about a hundred million years ago. It is particularly white and translucent, possessing the flexibility and resistance of wood, and has been crafted into furniture for thousands of years. On a side note, due to a misallocation of skill points, his relative in the coal mining business ended up quite unfortunate.
Crystal Wood is said to have the ability to harmonize yin and yang. Regardless of whether one has an extremely yin or extremely yang constitution, its material can absorb and neutralize those traits. “You should take a piece with you, but don’t take too much!” It was precisely because of this piece of Crystal Wood that I managed to get through a relatively stable period.
No need; this must be the place where the Taoists built the Nine-Tiered Corpse Tower.
In the center of the Corpse Tower stood several Carved Stone Pillars, which appeared to support the upper structure. They looked particularly robust, yet amidst this intricately carved floor, such crude stone pillars seemed quite out of place, creating an almost jarring contrast.
I felt a strange sense of obsession here; I couldn’t quite describe it. It felt somewhat familiar, perhaps because I had been here before in some way. Maybe in a dream, where I couldn’t clearly see what era it belonged to, this tower was once inhabited. I had visited this place in a dream; back then, it was so resplendent, yet now it lay in such desolation…
No, I quickly snapped back to reality as I heard a strange noise.
Just as I regained my focus, Big Mouth Lee ’s loud voice erupted again, followed by another rustling sound. I turned towards the source and swallowed hard. “Oh my God, what’s happening?”
The entrance was swarming with cockroaches, crawling all over like a tide. Not far away came frantic roars; countless ghostly figures were following behind Dirty Things. This scene rivaled any Yokai Parade; it was terrifying beyond belief!
Suddenly, a slender figure leaped past me. A shadow blocked the hallway, emitting a sinister cackle. The figure was thin and hunched, appearing fragile, yet it exuded a fierce aura. Waves of purple mist, dominance, and filth surrounded him... Those dirty things made everyone recoil in fear.
"This is my territory now, boys!" It was the voice of Uncorrupted Bones. I had always thought he was a fraud, but it seemed he had some skills after all. However, I couldn't tell what trick he was planning to pull. After all, he had been keeping a low profile, almost as if he had vanished.
At that moment, I looked at Uncorrupted Bones and felt an illusion of a majestic and ferocious man. He looked like a fool with his green helmet; his appearance usually evoked laughter, but this time he seemed anything but ridiculous. The green mist swirling around him gave off an impression of a formidable warrior.
I had to admit it! When it came to showmanship, Uncorrupted Bones was the best. I wondered what he was up to.
Upon hearing his words, I suddenly felt uneasy: "Old Trickster, what are you planning?"
The swarm of cockroaches grew denser; perhaps their large size prevented them from flying. Groups of cockroaches surged toward me like an unstoppable tide, countless in number. Fortunately, my fear of clusters wasn't too severe; otherwise, this wave would have overwhelmed me with its sheer force!
But I would never yield; even clay figures have some stubbornness left in them. I shouted, "With the knife in hand, my heart is steadfast!"
"You’re mistaken; you only have a sword, not a knife!" Big Mouth Lee pulled out a military knife and couldn't resist throwing a jab at me. "That line belongs to me: 'With the knife in hand, my heart is steadfast!'" Hearing him say that made me feel utterly powerless; I wanted to smack him—this idiot was nothing but dead weight. Bald Qiang and Dong Tong were eager to join in as well, while Zhengyang stood guard at the staircase leading up, drawing his longsword and refusing to budge an inch. I thought to myself, "Could there be something up there coming down?"
At that moment, from within the swarm of cockroaches, an enormous black figure slowly rose up and cracked its mouth into a grin. What the hell! This completely defied my understanding—cockroaches could actually smile? As if that wasn't enough, it began to peel off its cockroach shell like clothing.
"Whoa! You’re insane for going commando!" Big Mouth Lee exclaimed uncontrollably as he stared at the dark figure that emitted a strange glow.
The man, for now, we shall call him the Cockroach Man, possessed an incredibly strong physique, yet his face was twisted in a grotesque manner.
Big Mouth Lee, seeing the situation, shouted loudly and brandished his knife, ready to charge forward. However, after taking a few steps, he stopped. This guy actually pleaded earnestly, "Buddy! Get a makeover! In this face-value society, you won't survive like this!" Upon hearing this, the Cockroach Man immediately flew into a rage and let out a wild howl. The sound was sharp and piercing, like a wolf's cry in the dead of night...
We all felt an urge to collapse right there, hoping desperately that I didn't know him. I took a careful look at this cockroach and was taken aback. "What the hell, he can transform too!"
"That's the Armored Demon, extremely fierce!" Zhengyang shouted suddenly, startling me.
According to the records in Mausoleum Secrets, "In the Great Wilderness, there are spirits that can consume great rocks and drink dew; when they emerge, they can slaughter an entire nation!" This was an Evil Spirit of Drought Demon level—less than thirteen segments of Killing Intent could easily wipe us all out. What the hell is going on? Could this be something raised by the Nine-Tiered Corpse Tower?
"No! This one is a Vajra Guardian from the Nine-Tiered Corpse Tower!"
That creature was incredibly fierce, shaking the entire tower with creaking sounds. The cockroaches beneath it instantly shriveled up as all their Eerie Energy was absorbed by it. The creature slowly advanced towards us.
"Kid, I'm tired of living; I hope to see you in the next life! I can't stand this half-human, half-ghost existence any longer!"
“Old Trickster, what are you planning to do?”
“Child, no more words. Just seeing the master is enough for me! Farewell forever!”
Uncorrupted Bones shook its body, twisting like a monkey, and leaped toward Armored Demon. The two Evil Spirits engaged in a fierce struggle. Suddenly, I felt a sharp drop in temperature, and White Mist began to rise. The surrounding Dirty Things vanished in fear from the commotion, leaving the entire tower eerily quiet. From Uncorrupted Bones, shimmering lights emerged, dancing like fireflies, as they floated upward, gently cascading down like drops of dew.
“Old Trickster, what are you planning to do?” A wave of unease surged within me. It seemed that this was a fight to the death against Armored Demon! “Aren't you supposed to avenge the master and personally kill that thing?” In the midst of the battle, Uncorrupted Bones glanced at us and gave a faint smile. Impossible! A slight smile from it—could it possess human warmth? I felt as if I were looking at an old servant from a thousand years ago, with a kind and gentle face. Then, Uncorrupted Bones let out an ear-piercing roar of fury, its hands like iron hooks plunged into the impenetrable body of Armored Demon, black liquid gushing forth. Armored Demon roared in anger, relentlessly pounding on Uncorrupted Bones, and we could hear the sound of bones cracking.
A flash of red light gradually appeared, like a bulb about to burn out, suddenly emitting a blinding brilliance. I thought to myself, “This is bad; it’s going to self-destruct!”
