In the Vast World, there are humans, demons, ghosts, animals, and plants. As for the existence of gods, there is currently no evidence; according to records, gods are merely powerful ghosts. Those engaged in Zhengyang will classify their ranks based on the Killing Intent of ghosts.
Cultivators categorize ghosts into twenty ranks according to the color and intensity of their Killing Intent. For example, Soul Snatching and Phantom belong to the first rank, Evil Spirit Ali falls around the second to third ranks, Ghost Infant reaches up to the fifth rank, and more formidable entities like the Jealous Woman Ghost reach the Seventh Segment.
Based on the Azure Light emanating from this Evil Spirit, I roughly classified it into the fourth rank. Given my current strength, subduing it would be quite challenging. If I cannot confront it directly, I will have to rely on cunning. This is the most formidable Evil Spirit I have faced alone.
It is partly my fault; Dong Mansion is known as the Dragon's True Lair, composed of both yin and yang soil. This location surprisingly takes on a Taiji shape, making it an excellent feng shui site. It must have been guided by a master and protected by the Azure Dragon and White Tiger deities; such a fourth or fifth rank Evil Spirit should not be able to enter. At that time, to teach a lesson to the security guards, I set up a Maze Formation within Tai Chi Black Fish Eye and summoned some Eerie Energy. This completely disrupted the balance of the Dragon's True Lair, allowing ghosts to slip into Dong Mansion with plans to possess someone.
I pondered this carefully and understood the reasoning. My current strength is insufficient to fully wield the Azure Dark Sword. If I only use the Master Copper Talisman, I cannot contain an Evil Spirit of this rank. Only by utilizing this Dragon's True Lair and leveraging external forces can I completely seal off the Evil Spirit and have a chance of victory.
"Big Brother! Come here!" Huang Mao had snuck over at some point! He poked his head out from outside the door, calling me sneakily. His call drew Old Dong's attention completely. Thud! Thud! He lunged at Huang Mao. Just in time, Dong Tong managed to rush over and firmly grabbed Old Dong. Old Dong's left hand bulged with veins, his palm transforming into an eagle's claw as he prepared to strike down. Everyone covered their eyes while his left hand was held back by his right hand, as if two people were engaged in an arm wrestling match!
Old Dong's left face regained its gentleness while his right side looked terrifying; one half was pale while the other was dark blue. I glanced over and saw Old Dong grappling with that Evil Spirit, clearly at a disadvantage. I shouted loudly, "The old man is here!" Everyone opened their eyes in unison and turned to look at him; that half of his face was too familiar. Several close relatives immediately knelt down, chanting, "The old man is worried about his granddaughter; even in death he still tries to save her!"
Old Dong's body emitted an aged voice: "Son, I can hold on for a while longer..." I understood that Old Dong had been following closely behind; he was merely a recently deceased ghost and could not withstand that Evil Spirit's power. If it weren't for his granddaughter's life being at stake, he wouldn't dare act recklessly. Time was running out for me; I shouted, "Huang Mao, take a few security guards and set up the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation! Hold on for a bit!" Then I turned to everyone and asked where Non-Yin Land was—specifically a place that could be exposed to sunlight all day long! One security guard volunteered to lead me there.
Surprisingly, Huang Mao didn't hesitate anymore and nodded. Those who dared to send offerings to the God of Joy must understand some Daoist Arts; besides, he was also a disciple of Qingyunzi. Huang Mao indeed selected eight security guards along with himself to form the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation; this formation is highly effective against Evil Spirits. "Oh no! Old Master Dong is also a ghost!" Huang Mao shouted.
Old Dong let out a fierce roar: "I’m not afraid!" The right side of his face was drenched in cold sweat and trembling uncontrollably while his left side involuntarily curled into a smirk. I realized that he was risking Soul Shattering danger just to buy me time. Not daring to linger any longer, I reached Non-Yin Land and took out a Yellow Flag inscribed with fire characters. This was a dragon-seeking flag I had desperately sought from Zhengyang.
The Yellow Flag floated down like dandelion seeds beneath a Vajra Cedar tree.
Vajra Cedar has a trunk as sturdy as bronze and prefers sunlight while despising shade; its seedlings even require strong light bulbs for growth. Its appearance resembles that of the bronze-skinned Vajra Eighteen Bronze Men. Due to its hard leaves, it is called Vajra Cedar. It belongs to extremely strong and yang plants capable of stabilizing energy fields, warding off disasters, and protecting homes for peace. Its leaves are triangular with pointed tips and are very tough, capable of resolving disputes among people.
This made things easier; I took out seven raw chicken bones and inserted them according to the positions of the Big Dipper Seven Stars while reciting incantations each time until all were placed—this took me three or four minutes as sweat poured down my face. This constituted a simplified Seven Star Soul Fixing Formation; if set up in a Graveyard or Corpse Raising Ground, it could greatly dispel Killing Intent. Conversely, if placed in auspicious locations like Dragon Veins, it could maximize Yang Qi summoning potential. Although this simplified version of the Seven Star Soul Fixing Formation may not be very effective elsewhere, it would suffice in this true dragon burial site.
As I finished setting up the last raw chicken bone, I felt the sunlight suddenly intensify. I rushed back into the villa with the security guard. Old Dong's spirit had already begun to fade, and Dong Yitong had been pulled away by the guard. The Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation set up by Huang Mao and the others could only provide some resistance, but with the completion of the Seven Star Soul Fixing Formation, the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation instantly erupted with three times its power.
I was worried about Old Dong shattering, so I removed the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation and looked at Dong Yitong. "Sister Dong, quickly take off your skirt!" Everyone was confused; Dong Yitong glanced at me, her neck flushing red. "Pervert!" I shouted, "Stop talking nonsense! If you don’t want to see Old Master Dong shatter, then hurry up!" It seemed that Dong Yitong understood in an instant. Several servants grabbed a tablecloth to shield her, and she took off her skirt, blushing furiously as she tossed it over.
I spread out the hem of the skirt and shouted, "Old Master Dong, come in! The rest is up to me!" Old Dong hesitated for a moment but then decisively dove inside. I tied the skirt securely and tossed it back to Yitong. She held it like a treasure. I shouted again, "Huang Mao, activate the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation!" Huang Mao and several guards immediately arranged the formation.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! Looks like I have to go all out!" That voice came from Old Dong's mouth again, and at that moment, his entire face turned green. There were several cracking sounds as Old Dong's joints popped all over his body. His hands and feet suddenly elongated; with a loud snap, his nails grew seven or eight centimeters long, dark and shiny, gleaming like metal. His face transformed into a ghastly visage with sharp teeth, and his burial clothes ripped apart, revealing a dark body. A steel rebar pierced through his shoulder and protruded from his abdomen—this was an Evil Spirit! Old Dong's physical body lay nearby. Several people in the mourning hall fainted from fright!
This was a wronged ghost. According to the Mausoleum Secrets, "A wronged ghost is a type of Evil Spirit that can appear in daylight; generally caused by suicide or accidental death due to misfortune, these spirits are formed from the resentment left behind after death! Such ghosts cannot reincarnate if their time on earth has not yet ended and must endure the suffering of their death every day."
Huang Mao and several guards had wet pants as they leaned against the doorframe maintaining the formation, too scared to step forward. I looked at them and said, "The Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation is still active; I'm not afraid of anything!" The Evil Spirit was indeed weakened by the formation; its power was reduced to about two and a half segments.
I grabbed my Azure Dark Sword; the Evil Spirit pulled out the rebar from its body and swung it around with a whoosh. My Azure Dark Sword was relatively light and agile; when it clashed with the rebar, it sliced off a section! The ghost's strength was tremendous; when it struck against the wall, it created a dent—clearly, this Evil Spirit aimed to kill with every blow. With my left hand forming a sword technique and my right arm steadying my elbow, I waited for it to swing back the rebar. When its chest opened up for an attack, I shook my sword; Azure Light flickered as I thrust the tip of my sword back and forth in front of the Evil Spirit's eyes. My sudden assault threw its stance into chaos; I lowered my left knee and swung my sword with all my might, aiming straight for its chest. After all, this was the Azure Dark Sword—it pierced right through the Evil Spirit's chest.
With this strike through its heart, the Evil Spirit's Killing Intent diminished significantly; the rebar clattered to the ground. It seemed that this Demon had completely submitted to me. I took out my Master Copper Seal and threw it onto its head along with my Azure Dark Sword and activated the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation. The Evil Spirit's head drooped like a wilting flower!
Under our interrogation, we learned some stories about this Evil Spirit in life.
In life, this Evil Spirit was named Tang Ben; he had only an old grandmother at home. To indulge himself in feasting and drinking extravagantly, he even forced his grandmother to pawn her jewelry! He was lazy and gluttonous—a forty-something bachelor living in poverty who only knew how to mooch off others' food and drink. He was notorious as a thug in Hukou Village. When Old Dong returned home one day and saw how pitiful he was, he arranged for him to work as a construction worker in Rongcheng. Unexpectedly, this guy caused trouble repeatedly.
Old Dong didn't hold it against him but gave him some money to leave instead. However, this scoundrel tricked him instead. One time Tang Ben went to the construction site again; climbing up high, he unfurled a banner demanding wages intending to extort more money. Unfortunately, he stepped into thin air and fell from a height—a steel rebar pierced through his abdomen from shoulder to shoulder. He didn't even make it to the hospital before he died! Old Dong had a good heart; he compensated his grandmother handsomely for her loss—by rights, that should have been the end of it.
But Tang Ben believed he died unjustly; filled with resentment, he transformed into an Evil Spirit that haunted Old Dong daily until Old Dong fell ill from fright and passed away peacefully in his sleep. Tang Ben then followed us back to Hukou Village with plans to ruin Old Dong's family completely.
After listening to the account, I shook my head repeatedly, my anger boiling over. Everyone present was cursing Tang Ben.
I specifically had someone soak a brown rope in Black Dog Blood, and according to the records in Mausoleum Secrets, I tied a binding knot to restrain the wronged spirit. After that, I canceled the Nine Yang Soul Locking Formation and removed the Seven Star Soul Fixing Formation!
At this moment, Old Dong was also released. He had heard the wronged spirit's account from within the skirt and shook his head in silence! When Dong Tong saw her grandfather, she rushed into his embrace, but unfortunately, Old Dong was a vaporous soul and could not be held. Disappointed, she stood aside, tears streaming down her face as she looked at Old Dong.
For such a rogue spirit, there was naturally nothing to sympathize with. I raised the Master Copper Seal, wielded the Azure Dark Sword, recited incantations, and stepped into the formation. I pulled out four or five Celestial Five Thunder Talismans from my backpack. With a loud shout of "Go!", I aimed to strike him with Soul Shattering.
"Daoist Priest, please have mercy!" someone broke through the security's obstruction and stumbled in.
