The stuttering man was named Agen, and the fox-faced old lady was his Aunt. It was around nine o'clock, and Aunt insisted on taking us to the cave of the Cave God. I returned to my room and grabbed just one bag before heading out. We followed Aunt along the mountain path for about an hour and a half until we reached a grassy slope in front of the Flourishing Woods, where we stopped.
The moonlight was faintly illuminating the area, revealing bamboo and weeds all over the slope. Under Aunt's guidance, we discovered a dark opening hidden among the grass, though it was hard to see clearly. We leaned in closer, and inside the opening was pitch black, with a cool breeze wafting out.
"Let's go down!"
I felt a sharp kick on my backside, causing me to lurch forward and tumble into the hole with a thud, rolling several times until I landed at the bottom. As I regained my senses, I heard a loud crash—Lu Jianguo had also fallen into the hole, landing face-first in the dirt!
Fortunately, the soil at the bottom was relatively loose, so we only suffered some scrapes and bruises without any serious injuries.
Cackling laughter echoed from above.
"Damn it! It feels like someone kicked me... Uncle Lu, that Aunt must be up to no good!"
"Shut up! Look over there—something is glowing!"
I heard Lu Jianguo's voice and glanced around, spotting my backpack lying nearby, emitting a faint green light that grew brighter like a five-watt bulb. I pulled out what was producing the "green light"—it turned out to be my Gongye Zhu shining in the darkness.
"Is this a night pearl?" I thought to myself. Night pearls contain fluorescent minerals that glow brighter in darker places. However, I never expected it to shine so brightly. In ancient tombs, besides lighting long-lasting lamps, night pearls were often placed inside to ensure eternal light. According to legend, only the shell of a giant clam from the South China Sea could cover its brilliance. In reality, my Gongye Zhu was far more than just that simple.
Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar!
A deep growl like that of a beast echoed through the cave as I raised my Gongye Zhu high and looked in the direction of the sound. In the corner of the wall sat a woman next to her was a Yunnan Black-Backed Dog, covered in wounds and baring its teeth at us!
"Wow! A Money Python as thick as an arm has been torn in two by it!" Lu Jianguo exclaimed. I noticed several severed sections of Money Python on the ground, each as thick as a thigh. The black dog was injured all over, with sticky black blood dripping from its mouth—clearly, it had taken down the Money Python. "This black dog really protects its owner!"
"This is bad! Uncle Lu, get back... that thing is about to attack us!"
"Jump up and grab the vine!" Lu Jianguo and I leaped into the air, clutching the roots that hung down from the ground, our bodies suspended in midair. The black dog, injured and growling, lunged at us. A flash of white light appeared, and to my surprise, the black dog disregarded its owner, howling in terror as it tucked its tail and fled!
It turned out that Furball had woken up. This palm-sized creature had managed to scare off a Yunnan Blackback. Afterward, it jumped back into my backpack and fell asleep with a soft snore. Lu Jianguo stared in shock; even I was taken aback by this turn of events and realized I needed to reevaluate this little guy.
"Could that woman be the Fallen Cave Woman?"
"I don't know!" Lu Jianguo pulled a compass from his backpack, pointing it around as it spun wildly. Sweat dripped from his forehead, and I felt a wave of tension wash over me.
A chilling aura surrounded us, and cold mist swirled ominously—something was definitely wrong!
Cackling laughter echoed through the fog.
From within the thick mist, a lean figure approached. Our eyes met for the first time, and I shuddered at the intensity of that gaze. "Aunt, how did you get down here?"
"Wizard! Can you see clearly now? Do you know who I am?" Aunt extended a hand toward her disheveled hair, tugging at it forcefully. As she pulled downwards, her entire skin peeled away.
"Fox Immortal?"
"Do you remember Aunt Huang?"
Aunt Huang was an Evil Spirit who had once possessed me before being devoured by the Beautiful Serpent! The thought sent chills down my spine. Could this Fox Immortal be seeking revenge for her? "Damn! There's always a reason behind vengeance; I must be possessed by Doomsayer!" Though I had indeed been possessed by Doomsayer not long ago.
"Aunt Huang was killed because of you! I will avenge my sister!"
"Fox Immortal, listen to me! It was the Beautiful Serpent who killed your sister; it has nothing to do with me!"
"Shut up! I've spared you once already! What’s stopping me from taking your life now?" I thought to myself, "Damn! Not letting me go to the village counts as sparing my life?" But outwardly I said, "Well then, let's see if you can!"
"Xia, I think there's no need for that; one talisman should be enough to deal with it!"
"Haha! I was going to let you off easy, but with such arrogance, you're staring death in the face!" The Fox Spirit pointed at Lu Jianguo and smiled coldly. "Come on! The Spirit Yang Body is mine now!"
The face of the Fox Spirit flickered, revealing a fox's head. Its hands alternated between human hands and claws. With a howl, it lunged forward like a bolt of lightning, slashing my clothes with several deep cuts, blood streaming from the wounds. I didn't even notice this entire sequence of events! The Fox Spirit smiled coldly at us, as if eyeing meat on a platter, saliva nearly dripping from its mouth.
I instinctively reached for my backpack. "Damn! I forgot to bring my talismans and magical tools! Uncle Lu, do you have any?" Lu Jianguo shook his head. It was truly a case of being unable to cook without rice; against such creatures, fists alone were useless.
Roar!
The Fox Spirit crouched low and leaped into the air, its sharp teeth glinting with white light as its body traced an arc in the sky...
This is it!
Even if I had to die, I would fight back. We swung tree roots and stones fiercely at the Fox Spirit's head.
It was futile!
The tree root was crushed in one bite, and even the stone was reduced to powder!
I was kicked by that creature's hind legs and fell hard against the cave wall, collapsing on the ground and unable to get up for a moment.
Although Lu Jianguo possessed an extremely yang body, he had no advantage against these living beings! He was forced to retreat repeatedly until he was backed against the cave entrance, defenseless.
"Today, you are all dead!"
I was beaten to the point of being unable to fight back, closing my eyes and waiting for death to arrive.

A loud thud echoed through the cave!
The sound of flesh colliding with the rock wall was so intense that the entire cavern seemed to shake!
I opened my eyes and saw the fox spirit lying on the ground, gasping for breath. Its body was broken and it coughed up black blood, unable to move. A flash of white light darted into my backpack; it was Furball who had saved me.
"Could this be the Bai Ze?" Lu Jianguo's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"Yes!" I nodded and briefly recounted how I had obtained the Bai Ze. I had no intention of deceiving Lu Jianguo; after going through life-and-death experiences together, I decided to lay everything bare.
"Wow! With just one move, you took down this century-old fox spirit!"
"Sigh!" The fox spirit let out a long lament, lying on the ground. "Alas! My reputation as Fox Flower has been ruined in an instant! To die at the hands of Bai Ze, I accept my fate! But that thing in Baisha Village is extremely dangerous; I advise you to let go soon!" Its voice was sharp and grating, sending chills down my spine.
"Roar!" A low growl came from my backpack.
Suddenly, a foul stench erupted, accompanied by a cloud of smoke. Lu Jianguo and I quickly covered our noses, only to see the fox spirit take advantage of the stench to bite down and escape.
Now, only Lu Jianguo and I remained in the cave, along with the woman squatting there.
She had a pink Red Cloth Strip tied around her head, adorned with a Camellia flower. Her long, thick black hair cascaded down, covering her upper body as she leaned on her knees. She wore an embroidered black skirt, with black leg guards below her knees and a pair of black embroidered shoes. Since we entered, she had remained in that position without moving!
"Uncle Lu, do you think that woman is dead?"
"No, she has seven parts Eerie Energy and three parts Yang Qi. She's still alive!"
"Then she must be the Fallen Cave Woman? Uh! Uncle Lu, do you know what the Fallen Cave Woman is?"
According to Lu Jianguo's explanation, I roughly understood what the "Fallen Cave Woman" was. The local people believe that everything in nature has a spirit, and every object is protected by a deity. For instance, this cave has a Cave God watching over it. Once the Cave God sets its sights on a woman, it will steal away her two souls and three spirits, leaving her in a state akin to deep slumber, unable to be awakened no matter how loudly she is called. If the Gao Lao finds out, they will throw the woman into the cave and leave her to starve! A woman chosen by the Cave God has little chance of escaping death.
"Sigh! Uncle Lu, this belief is deadly!"
"In fact, what is called the Cave God is merely an embodiment of Mountain Spirits and Wild Monsters. Since this woman has become a Fallen Cave Woman, it means her soul has indeed been taken!"
I nodded quickly and walked with Lu Jianguo to the woman. We laid her down on the ground, her body completely flat. Only then could I see her face clearly; she was a delicate young woman, around seventeen or eighteen years old, with fair skin and exquisite features. If I hadn't approached closely, I would have had no idea she was in such distress.
Lu Jianguo touched her forehead with the back of his hand and found that she was burning with fever. He then pried open her eyelids and saw that her eyeballs were clouded and filled with dense blood vessels. When he opened her mouth, he noticed that her tongue was yellowed. Seeing this scene, Lu Jianguo couldn't help but furrow his brow.
"Indeed, one soul and one spirit are missing!"
With one soul and one spirit lost from the Three Souls and Seven Spirits, the remaining two souls and six spirits were still present. In the realm of Yin and Yang, a person is composed of these elements; three souls represent Yin while seven spirits represent Yang. A balance between Yin and Yang is essential for health. Now that one soul was lost from the three souls and one spirit from the seven spirits was missing, it naturally disrupted this balance. The clash between Yin and Yang not only caused a high fever but also made her body fluctuate between hot and cold!
"Uncle Lu, according to the Mausoleum Secrets, this missing soul and spirit can be summoned back!"
"Yes! That's right... I'll leave the task of summoning the souls to you."
Seeing that Lu Jianguo was serious and not joking at all made me realize that growth was necessary. I nodded firmly. If it weren't for this soul summoning incident, I would never have known I possessed such a terrifying constitution.
