As I opened the door, a rush of cold air hit me, making me shiver involuntarily.
I frowned and continued inside, but my feet slipped on the slick floor.
Looking down, I noticed the floor was very damp, with large patches of water stains.
The spacious living room was empty, devoid of any electronic devices; there was only a water bed and some decorations like starfish and seashells.
Surrounding the area were numerous small potted plants.
A wooden drip fountain continuously dropped water into a fish pond embedded in the floor, producing a crisp sound.
At first glance, it resembled a watery paradise.
I scoffed; these two were quite romantic!
“Brother An, you’re here?”
A captivating and alluring female voice came from the master bedroom at the back.
I took a deep breath, snapped a twig in anger, and marched over.
I was determined to see what this mistress looked like!
As soon as I pushed the door open, I was left dumbfounded.
There was no bed in the master bedroom; instead, there was an enormous glass fish tank.
In the fish tank, there lay a Mermaid I had only seen on television.
Her large blue tail swayed gently.
The Mermaid was lazily soaking in the bathtub, fiddling with a waterproof phone.
Damn it, that scumbag Liu An abandoned me and our child, and here he was, lounging with a fish!
Wait, this was the first time in my life I had ever seen a real Mermaid!
For a moment, I didn't know whether to confront the mistress or take a selfie with the Mermaid to post on social media.
"Who are you? How did you get in here?" The Mermaid stared at me warily.
I tried to calm myself down. "I am your Brother An's wife, the mother of his future child."
The Mermaid chuckled lightly and looked me up and down. "So you're the Yellow-Faced Woman. No wonder Brother An doesn't want you."
My anger flared up instantly. Damn it! I hated being called a Yellow-Faced Woman more than anything else in this life.
"Then let me show you what a Yellow-Faced Woman's temper is like!"
I didn't care whether the Mermaid was dangerous or not; I charged at her, grabbing her seaweed-like hair and dragging her out of the water. I slammed her heavily onto the ground and stepped on her face.
The Mermaid let out a piercing scream, struggling in vain as I unleashed my fury upon her.
Her deep blue tail, once out of the water, was nothing but beautiful and utterly useless.
I peeled off a scale and waved it in front of the Mermaid.
"I don't care whether you're human or fish; you better behave, or if you provoke me, I have plenty of ways to make your life worse than death."
Seeing the Mermaid struggling to call Liu An, I snorted and tucked the scale into my pocket.
"The Brother An you cherish like a treasure is just an old man to me. You can have him if you want. But if you have any ulterior motives, don't blame me for what happens next."
I forced myself to suppress my trembling hands and straightened my back as much as I could.
Looking at the Mermaid's resentful gaze, I spat and turned to leave.
Not long after I got home, Liu An stormed in, pointing his finger at me and cursing, even grabbing a bowl to throw at me.
"Did you go see Xiao Lan?"
I dodged slightly, and the porcelain bowl shattered on the floor into pieces.
I stared blankly at the broken bowl on the ground.
This set of furniture was something Liu An and I had bought when we got married; I never expected it would one day become a weapon he used against me.
Snapping back to reality, I met Liu An's questioning gaze.
"Is ' Xiao Lan' the name you gave her? I've been pregnant for so long, and you never thought about what to name our child!"
My heart felt as cold as ice.
I was Liu An's first wife; after all those years of struggling together, there should have been some bond between us, even if it wasn't romantic.
But what did he do? He sweet-talked me into becoming a housewife and then started flirting with a fish just as our child was about to arrive.
Is he even a man?
He's worse than an animal!
After a long silence, Liu An finally spoke, "Lulu, let's get a divorce."
"You haven't taken care of yourself over the years; honestly, I've long lost my feelings for you."
"There were no women I was interested in before, so I settled for living with you."
"But now I've met Xiao Lan and rediscovered the taste of love. I really can't force myself to continue this marriage."
I couldn't help but laugh in anger.
