We all stopped what we were doing and turned to look. Although Tian Long was covered in blood, if one looked closely, it was still possible to recognize his military uniform.
Hou Libang scrutinized Tian Long's appearance, his brow slightly furrowed as he tried to match the Tian Long before him with someone he had seen before.
After a moment, Hou Libang slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "How could I forget? He must be the Tian Long we met earlier. But how did Tian Long end up here? And he's covered in blood—what on earth has he been through?"
Upon hearing Hou Libang's words, I finally recognized Tian Long's identity. My impression of him wasn't very deep; I had only seen him once when we set out. The high-tech wristband I was wearing now was given to me by Tian Long.
I used my Yin-Yang Eyes to scan Hou Libang. While I detected strands of Eerie Aura surrounding him, there was no sign of Eerie Aura within Tian Long's body.
I rubbed my chin, my mind racing as I quickly pieced together what must have happened to Tian Long. My brow furrowed slightly, and my expression grew serious as I thought, "It seems Tian Long has encountered something sinister."
Once my thoughts settled, I quickly turned and waved at Hou Libang and the others, saying, "Hou Fatty, what are you all standing around for? Hurry up and help him!"
Hearing my reminder, they finally reacted and rushed toward Tian Long, clumsily lifting him and carrying him to the fire nearby.
I knelt beside Tian Long and said, "Tian Long, I'm Jiang Ling, the temporary leader of the Night Action Team. Can you tell me what happened to you?"
Tian Long's condition was not good; he had over twenty long gashes on his body, and blood had soaked through his clothes. If it weren't for the sheer willpower keeping him conscious, he would have already fainted.
Tian Long weakly coughed and struggled to open his eyes to look at me. His voice was intermittent as he said, "Cough... there's a ghost... a ghost! Jiang Ling, you need to take them and escape; otherwise, it will be too late."
"There’s a ghost... chasing us. My eight teammates all died at its hands. You all need to run for your lives. Cough..." Fear filled Tian Long's eyes as he began to lose consciousness. Soon after, he closed his eyes and fell into a faint.
Our backpacks all contained medical first aid kits, and coincidentally, there were three freshmen from the Medical Department in our team. As they took care of Tian Long, they immediately began to treat his wounds.
After about seven or eight minutes, all of Tian Long's wounds were bandaged, and he was also changed into a clean camouflage uniform. Although the bleeding had stopped, he had lost too much blood, leaving his face pale and his body trembling uncontrollably.
One of the Medical Department freshmen looked up at me with a serious expression and said, "Captain, Tian Long's condition is not optimistic. He needs a blood transfusion as soon as possible; otherwise, he could be in life-threatening danger."
I furrowed my brow and glanced at Tian Long lying by the fire. In a calm tone, I asked, "How much longer can Tian Long hold on?"
The freshman pondered for a moment before responding with certainty, "Under normal circumstances, Tian Long can last about six more hours. If his condition worsens and we don't have the surgical tools to help him, he could die at any moment."
I nodded and checked the time; it was just past two in the morning, with over four hours until dawn. If we followed the original plan, it was likely that Tian Long wouldn't make it until then.
I turned to my teammates, a glint of determination flashing in my eyes. I drew my sabre and declared firmly, "Brothers, comrades, I Jiang Ling am not a paragon of virtue, but I am a man of iron will. Now that Tian Long is in grave danger, his life or death is in our hands. I am prepared to lead us out of Baishan Village with Tian Long. As long as we reach the county town, we will be safe. I ask now—who is willing to fight their way out with me?"
Hou Libang and the others realized the severity of the situation from what they heard from Tian Long. They were scared too; if it weren't for my presence keeping them steady, they would have been in chaos by now.
At that moment, the three freshmen from the Medical Department stepped forward first. They exchanged glances and nodded decisively before saying, "Captain, we will go with you. If anything happens to Tian Long's condition, we can find a way to handle it."
After they finished speaking, they quickly moved aside to gather whatever materials were available to create a simple stretcher.
Hou Libang looked at the three freshmen with an excited expression. He stepped forward and slapped his chest forcefully while shouting loudly, "I’m with you, Jiang Ling! I refuse to believe that with so many of us together, we can't deal with those Ghostly Beings!"
"Hou Libang is right! With so many of us and some protective talismans on hand, what do we have to fear? Jiang Ling, I'm going with you!" After Hou Libang took the lead, more and more people stood up. The university students participating in this Night Operation were all young martial arts experts; there wasn't a coward among them. So among our thirty-four members, not a single one chose to back down at this critical moment.
Once everyone had made their decision, they began to prepare. Some set about making torches for lighting the way, while others gathered sticks for clearing the path. Each person was busy with their tasks, and the camp quickly became lively.
I glanced at the people before me, feeling the blood within me start to boil with excitement. I tightened my grip on my Sabre and said firmly, "Since you are willing to trust me, I will risk my life to ensure you all make it out alive. This is my promise to you from Jiang Ling."
After about ten minutes, everything was ready. Along with the three newcomers from the Medical Department, there were six of us responsible for taking care of the unconscious Tian Long. I led the remaining twenty-seven people at the front of the group, holding a torch high as we walked steadily toward the county town.
