I stared expressionlessly at the Tree Demon. I had originally thought it would remain hidden in the shadows, but after witnessing the crow I had just dispatched, it could no longer contain the murderous intent surging within. The Tree Demon charged out without hesitation.
I raised my Sabre in front of me, coldly locking eyes with the demon's ghastly face. In a grim tone, I said, "Tree Demon, it's wise of you to come out and meet your end. Otherwise, I would have had to burn your true form to force you out. To thank you for your keen insight, I’m prepared to send you off properly."
With that, I infused a strand of Daoist Magic from within me into the Sabre, activating the runes etched along its sides, temporarily transforming it into a magical weapon.
Though this Sabre lacked the power of my own Rusty Sword, it was more than sufficient to deal with the Tree Demon before me.
"Roar! Damn human, die!" The Tree Demon swung its slender branches. Its strength was low, so it couldn't gauge the depth of my cultivation. If it had known better, it would never have dared to attack me; this was clearly a death wish.
While I hadn't seen the Tree Demon harm anyone directly, there's an old saying: birds of a feather flock together. Given its close ties with the Three-Eyed Crow Spirit, I suspected this Tree Demon was no good either. Thus, I felt no mercy toward it.
A glint flashed in my eyes as I decisively channeled about twenty percent of my Daoist Magic into the Sabre. Without wasting words, I raised the weapon high and swiftly cast several Spells with my left hand, shouting loudly: "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Supreme Three Pure Ones, Daoist Guardian! Grant me Daoist Arts, bestow upon me Blood Demon! Exorcism Technique, Dao Blood Extermination! Sacrificial Dao Blood, eradicate Evil Spirit! Supreme Old Lord, hasten as commanded!"
As soon as my words fell, the Sabre emitted a dazzling white light. Without a moment's hesitation, I swung it toward the Tree Demon.
I saw the ugly face on the demon's trunk turn pale with fear as it realized what was coming. It wanted to retreat upon seeing my Daoist Magic approach but was unfortunately too slow.
When my Daoist Spell struck its body, it shattered a significant portion of the Tree Demon's form.
"Ah! Damn human! How can you be this strong? This is impossible!" The Tree Demon roared in fury as half of its demonic energy was obliterated; now it couldn't even reform its ghastly face.
Ignoring its cries, I expressionlessly raised my Sabre once more and swung it down toward the Tree Demon again.
At the beginning, the Tree Demon held onto a glimmer of hope. It thought that I wouldn't be able to harm it so easily, and in its heart, it even entertained the idea of competing with me.
There's a saying: dreams are beautiful, but reality is harsh. The Tree Demon was clearly overestimating itself. After unleashing three Daoist Spells, I had reduced the Crooked Neck Tree to nothing but a bare trunk.
After finishing these actions, I stood quietly in front of the Tree Demon, resting my Sabre against the trunk of the Crooked Neck Tree. I remained motionless, occasionally dragging the blade across the tree's surface.
At that moment, the Tree Demon truly realized my strength. All that was left in its heart was fear; it no longer dared to move in front of me. If time could be reversed and it had known my capabilities earlier, it would have fled long ago and never appeared before me.
The Tree Demon let out a pained howl as it looked into my eyes and humbly said, "Ah! Human, please stop! Whatever you want, just ask me. If it's within my power, I will do my utmost. Even if it means recognizing you as my master, I am willing."
I paused my actions and temporarily sheathed my Sabre. With an expressionless face, I looked at the Tree Demon and pointed to Wang Yan and the others at my feet, asking in a flat tone, "Tree Demon, how did those three end up here?"
The Tree Demon fell silent for four or five seconds before responding, "Human, I truly don't know how those three appeared. My brother and I were just staying outside this deep mountain when we occasionally saw a group of mysterious figures passing by us. They gave us a very dangerous feeling, so we didn't dare to provoke them. Whenever they showed up, we would hide far away. Not long ago, we saw that group of figures near us again, so we hurriedly ran away. When we returned, those three were already here."
Upon hearing the Tree Demon's explanation, I frowned and fell into deep thought without speaking. Seeing my expression, the Tree Demon worried that I might not believe it. Its spirit then burst forth from the trunk and hovered in mid-air, ethereally saying to me, "Human, although my true form cannot move, my spirit can temporarily attach itself to nearby trees. That's how I avoided those mysterious figures before."
I gazed at the Tree Demon's spirit floating in mid-air and asked nonchalantly, "How many of those mysterious figures were there? Do you know?"
The Tree Demon's spirit fell silent for a moment before shaking its head and replying, "Human, I really don't know. I've never dared to get close to them; how could I know how many there were?"
I nodded; I wasn't surprised by the Tree Demon's answer. I raised my Sabre and infused a strand of Daoist Magic into it before turning around and plunging it into the ground not far away.
"Ah! Human, how could you discover my true form? This is impossible!" As soon as the Sabre pierced the ground, it pinned down a swirling mass of red demonic energy that resembled the Crooked Neck Tree; this mass was indeed the true essence of the Tree Demon.
After I pinned down the true soul of the Tree Demon, the gray mass of its soul in midair twisted violently and quickly turned to ash, dissipating into the air.
I walked slowly to the Tree Demon's spirit, a cold killing intent flashing in my eyes. In a somber tone, I said, "Tree Demon, with your abilities, you dare to play tricks under my watch. I'll give you one more chance. Tell me who those people are, and I might spare your life."
