The slightly plump student patted Yang Fu on the shoulder and said with a smile, "Yang Fu, you've been in the gym all afternoon without joining us. You missed out on something big, and you’re definitely going to regret it."
Yang Fu looked at the lewd grin on his friend's face and shrugged dismissively, taking a bite of his meal. "Lu Fatty, stop trying to fool people. Aren't you just going to welcome the new students? What big deal could come from that?"
The four of them were all from the College of Arts and Media at their university, but their major wasn't particularly well-known, so they rarely attracted any impressive candidates. Even they had been assigned there after being redirected by the school.
Lu Fatty seemed to have anticipated Yang Fu's reaction. Calmly, he pulled out his phone, opened the photo gallery, and proudly said, "Hey, Yang Fu, take a look at this. You definitely know her; she's our college's freshman this year."
Curiosity piqued by Lu Fatty's expression, Yang Fu took the phone and was immediately captivated by the first image in the album. His eyes widened in disbelief as he nearly drooled.
Lu Fatty's phone was filled with numerous photos, but they all featured one person: the goddess of otaku culture, Zhu Caini.
Zhu Caini was a stunning young streamer in her twenties. Not only was she beautiful, but she also excelled at singing and dancing. Most importantly, during her live streams, she often told bold jokes and playfully teased her male viewers, showcasing her unique charm.
Additionally, Zhu Caini frequently posted sultry photos on Weibo, leaving her male fans struggling to keep up with their fantasies. This made her a goddess living in the hard drives of countless otaku.
When Yang Fu saw a photo of Lu Fatty with Zhu Caini, jealousy surged through him as he deleted it right away and tossed the phone back to Lu Fatty, saying angrily, "Damn it, Lu Fatty! Zhu Caini came to our school and you were too busy taking pictures to even let me know? Are you guys still my brothers?"
Although Lu Fatty saw Yang Fu delete the photo from his phone, he didn't stop him because he had already uploaded those pictures to his computer. With a grin, Lu Fatty put his phone away and patted Yang Fu on the shoulder. "Yang Fu, who told you not to come? It's your own fault for missing out on seeing Zhu Caini."
After finishing their meal, the four of them left. I was still somewhat surprised by what I had just heard about Zhu Caini.
I had previously interacted with a well-known streamer named Wu Jie and knew about some of the more famous streamers in that industry. Among them, Zhu Caini ranked within the top twenty and was quite a popular internet celebrity. To put it into perspective, Wu Jie’s popularity only ranked fifty-nine.
I walked out of the restaurant, my brows furrowed in confusion as I muttered to myself, "Zhu Caini, such a famous streamer, actually comes here to study? That seems a bit unusual. With her abilities, she could easily attend a more prestigious media university."
However, I didn't dwell on this issue for long. After all, where Zhu Caini chose to study was entirely her own business and had nothing to do with me.
After wandering around the campus for a while, I noticed that there were many groves of trees. In the morning, those groves were quiet, with hardly anyone playing inside. But when I passed by those groves again in the evening, I found many couples whispering sweet nothings to each other, creating an atmosphere thick with romance.
"Uh, cough cough, what I shouldn't see, what I shouldn't see!" I awkwardly touched my ear, realizing that I might have wandered into the wrong place. So I quickly scurried away from there and returned to the brightly lit areas.
"I suddenly miss Qu Liang. I should give her a call and check on her," I thought back to the scene I'd just witnessed, unable to calm my heart. I quickly took out my phone and dialed Qu Liang's number.
During this time, no matter how busy I was, I always made sure to carve out some time to call Qu Liang. Our relationship remained as close as ever, and there was one good thing: the university Qu Liang was accepted into was in the same province as mine. We could reach each other's campuses in just three hours by train.
The call connected quickly, and Qu Liang's gentle voice came through. She asked me, "Jiang Ling, how's your school? Did you report today?"
Hearing Qu Liang's voice brought sweetness to my heart, like I'd just eaten honey. A happy smile spread across my face as I began sharing what had happened that day with her.
Before I knew it, two hours had passed. My phone became hot in my hand, and the battery was below ten percent. Frowning slightly, I glanced at my phone and said to Qu Liang on the other end, "Qu Liang, my phone is about to die. You have military training tomorrow; make sure to rest early and don't tire yourself out too much. I'll call you again tomorrow. Goodnight, muah!"
Qu Liang's laughter came through the phone as she replied with concern, "Jiang Ling, you should also get some rest early. Once our military training is over, I'll come find you. Muah! Sleep well."
After finishing my call with Qu Liang, it was already past ten at night. I returned to my dormitory, quickly washed up, and then lay down on my bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up early and had breakfast before heading straight to the academy to pick up a set of military training uniforms.
The formal Military Training began at ten in the morning. I followed the other freshmen to the changing room to put on our uniforms, and under the guidance of the college instructors, we quickly formed into separate military training squads based on our chosen majors.
There weren't many people in my major; there were only a little over sixty of us, and not a single girl among us. However, our numbers were just enough to form a squad, so we didn't have to mix with students from other majors.
After we were organized into teams, we followed Deng Bo to the school's basketball court.
There were eight basketball courts around us, but besides our group, three other teams were also present on the courts. Those three teams belonged to the College of Civil Engineering, the School of Humanities and Technology, and the School of Media Arts.
