“Stinky Taoist, just wait, I will recover my Cultivation soon, and that will be your death day.” A murderous glint flickered in Lin Junpeng's eyes as he spat out those harsh words. However, his bravado quickly faded when he realized I had seen through his strength; terror washed over his face, and he hurriedly turned to flee up the stairs of the tavern, completely unwilling to confront me.
“Humph, a mere Century Ghost dares to act arrogant in front of me? You might as well die!” I scoffed disdainfully, my body shifting as I chased after the fleeing Lin Junpeng, swinging my Demon-Subduing Staff swiftly toward his head.
If Lin Junpeng still possessed the power of a Millennium Ghost General with his Cultivation, dealing with him might have posed some difficulty. But now, he was just a Century Ghost. With a simple motion, I could extinguish him in mere moments.
“Bang~~” A light sound echoed as my Demon-Subduing Staff struck Lin Junpeng's soul, instantly scattering it into oblivion. He didn't even have the chance to scream in agony.
Although I saw Lin Junpeng's soul dissipating, I worried that he might reappear out of nowhere. To be safe, I took several talismans from my backpack, infused them with a trace of Daoist Magic, and hurled them at Lin Junpeng's soul.
“Separation Fire, eradicate the ghostly spirits, evil beings obstructing the path, turn to dust! Lingling, Earth Spirit, Supreme Old Lord, heed my command! Separation Fire Talisman, decree!” I quickly cast a Spell with my left hand while chanting incantations. Once I finished reciting the spell, the power within the talismans activated. Tiny flames appeared around Lin Junpeng's soul, forming a circle that sealed off all his escape routes.
I watched as Lin Junpeng’s soul completely vanished without leaking even a hint from the Flame Circle. Only then did I feel relieved. Letting out a long breath, I muttered to myself, “This time, Lin Junpeng is definitely dead; there’s no way he can come back.”
The time it took for me to deal with Lin Junpeng was brief—just over ten seconds. After eliminating him, I turned to confront Wei Penghui, only to find that he had already sneaked up to the second floor of the tavern. All I caught was a glimpse of his retreating figure; it was too late for me to stop him.
“Humph, you ran fast this time. I'll deal with you later,” I coldly remarked at Wei Penghui's disappearing back before turning to the group of Living Persons inside the tavern. Waving my hand at them, I said, “Those two Ghostly Beings have been driven away by me. As long as I'm here, they won't dare harm you. However, I'm heading up to the second floor now and won't have time to protect you continuously. So you should leave quickly.”
Though they had witnessed my confrontation with Lin Junpeng, the group of Living Persons still found it hard to believe. They cautiously looked around and confirmed that there were indeed no more Ghostly Beings on the first floor before they began to trust my words.
“Master, I thought I would die here! I'm still so young! Boohoo, thank you so much for saving us!” The previous Waitress rushed over and grabbed my hand, tears streaming down her face as she struggled to contain her emotions.
“Master, you saved my life; I will remember this favor. If you ever need help in the future, just let me know.”
"Master, thank you."
Others came over to express their gratitude, each voice sincere. However, I noticed a few individuals wearing expressions of deep disappointment. They merely nodded at me, offering no polite words before turning and leaving the tavern.
Seeing their unusual emotions, I couldn't help but furrow my brow and said, "What's wrong with those people? Are they too stunned to speak?"
The waitress followed my gaze. After recognizing those individuals, she shook her head and sighed. "Master, please don't blame them for being rude. Their friends just died at the hands of those two Ghostly Beings. They're not in a good mood right now, so try not to take it personally."
I nodded, finally understanding the situation. I wasn't angry at their attitude; rather, I felt pity for them. They had simply run into Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui by bad luck.
Although many spirits existed in this world, most ordinary ghosts wouldn't actively harm people. They merely wandered in the Yang Realm, reluctant to leave this world.
However, Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui dared to kill in plain sight. They belonged to the rare breed of vicious Ghostly Beings that would typically be hunted by Ghost Messengers. They shouldn't have dared to show themselves here, yet they had.
After three or four minutes, everyone on the first floor left the tavern. To prevent anyone else from entering, I decided to close the tavern's main door.
Once I took care of these details, I finally had time to look up at the second floor of the tavern. A glint of killing intent flashed in my eyes as I spoke coldly, "This is clearly my territory. As a Taoist Master, I should protect the ordinary people around me. I never expected someone would dare to harm others in my domain. You will pay for this."
I had attended high school nearby and lived in this area for over a decade. Whenever I encountered troublesome Ghostly Beings, I would eliminate them without hesitation. To think that shortly after I left, a Ghostly Being had killed someone on my turf was infuriating—especially since they had kidnapped my three best brothers. It was clear they were targeting me.
With these critical thoughts racing through my mind, I could no longer remain calm. I pulled out the Soul Nourishing Stone from my pocket and addressed Liu Zhenxian inside it: "Liu Zhenxian, you can come out now. We won't hold back; let's eliminate them and rescue my three brothers."
The Soul Nourishing Stone grew hot in my hand as a swirl of Black Ghostly Aura erupted from within it. After three or four seconds, Liu Zhenxian and the female ghost appeared before me.
Liu Zhenxian looked into my eyes, nodded seriously, and said, "Jiang Ling, don't worry. I promise that my first time helping you will not disappoint you."
With that, Liu Zhenxian's spirit flickered, and he charged up to the second floor of the tavern with the female ghost by his side, not waiting for me at all.
