I furrowed my brow tightly at Zhao Sanbao's words. In my memory, there was a forbidden Evil Spell related to the Zodiac Signs, known as the Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique.
Casting this Evil Spell was complex; first, it required finding twelve individuals of different zodiac signs, with six men and six women among them. Within a span of twelve hours, these selected individuals had to be killed in succession, and one soul from each of them had to be extracted and stored in a magical artifact.
Once all twelve selected individuals were dead, the souls within the artifact could be refined into a powerful demon through a process that took forty-nine days, creating a ruthless entity meant for covert killings.
I took another careful look at the twelve talismans, pondering for a moment before asking seriously, "Zhao, have you offended anyone recently? Have you heard anyone wanting to take your life?"
Seeing my expression, Zhao Sanbao realized something was wrong and turned pale with fear. He rubbed his forehead while pacing around the room, recalling the people he had interacted with recently. After a while, he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said with certainty, "Jiang Ling, I haven't offended anyone during this time. I'm usually quite easygoing; if someone needs to be accommodated, I generally let it go."
I nodded, already understanding what was happening with the Thousand Paper Cranes before me. The twelve zodiac paper figures were not meant to claim lives but seemed more like a ritual announcing that Zhao Sanbao was one of those selected individuals.
I discreetly activated the Daoist Magic within me and bit my index finger hard, quickly drawing a talisman in my palm while chanting aloud: "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods. The Way suppresses evil; malevolent spirits retreat. Three Pure Ones' divine seal, guiding the ghostly body. Command!"
As soon as I finished speaking, I completed the talisman in my palm without hesitation and slapped it onto the twelve zodiac origami figures.
The talisman in my palm was a detection talisman. Since the paper figures looked ordinary at first glance, I couldn't discern anything with just my eyes. However, as long as these papers were tainted with Evil Qi or Eerie Aura, my talisman would detect it.
With a whoosh, the Blood Demon in my palm emitted a burst of white light that transformed into twelve thin beams of white light, penetrating into the twelve zodiac origami figures.
Soon enough, an Evil Aura emerged from the Thousand Paper Cranes before me and dissipated into the air. At the same time, those origami figures that emitted Evil Qi spontaneously ignited without fire and turned to ash in an instant. Strangely enough, the surrounding Thousand Paper Cranes were not ignited.
Once the flames subsided, I glanced at the remaining Thousand Paper Cranes and found that only one zodiac origami remained—the last one was a tiger.
I turned to Zhao Sanbao and asked calmly, "Director Zhao, what zodiac sign are you?"
Zhao Sanbao frowned and instinctively replied, "I'm a Tiger, Jiang Ling. Why do you ask?"
"Nothing much, I was just curious," I said with a smile as I reached for the origami tiger and discreetly tucked it into my pocket. In my mind, I muttered to myself, "It seems that the Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique only has one zodiac left. If I'm not mistaken, Zhao Sanbao is the final target. This job is different; it's not just about eliminating a female ghost. I need to go all out to uncover the mastermind behind this."
With my suspicions in mind, I didn't dare to be careless. I quickly took out a compass from my backpack and meticulously checked Zhao Sanbao's room. However, I found nothing suspicious, and the group of Ghostly Beings was not in Zhao Sanbao's room either.
I put away the compass, nodded at Zhao Sanbao, and said, "Director Zhao, those Ghostly Beings have already left. You can tidy up your room now. I'll draw some talismans on your doors and windows so you won't have to worry about them breaking in again."
Upon hearing my words, Zhao Sanbao let out a long breath and began to clean up the room. I shook my head at his back, choosing not to reveal the truth. I believed that as long as I was here, that mastermind would never be able to harm Zhao Sanbao.
A glint flashed in my eyes as I muttered to myself, "The Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique—such a vicious Evil Spell is rarely cast by anyone. I want to see who is pulling the strings behind this!"
After about half an hour, Zhao Sanbao had cleaned up the room completely. I had also drawn several Exorcism Talismans in his room to ensure that those Ghostly Beings couldn't break in.
Zhao Sanbao and I walked down to the apartment's entrance. I turned to him and asked, "Director Zhao, do you know where that female ghost's body is? I need to see her corpse in order to summon her soul. Only then can we have a chance of eliminating her."
Zhao Sanbao nodded and said, "When I investigated that case yesterday, I learned that Su Xianwu's body is being stored at a nearby funeral home; it should be cremated at two o'clock this afternoon."
I checked the time; it was just eleven o'clock in the morning, leaving us three hours until the Separation Fire ceremony. I quickly pulled Zhao Sanbao to the roadside and hailed a taxi, urging it toward the funeral home.
Fortunately, the funeral home wasn't far away; we arrived there in just half an hour.
Zhao Sanbao led me to the lounge outside the Body Storage Room. He pointed to the five people sitting inside and said, "Jiang Ling, those are Su Xianwu's family members. I met them yesterday."
I nodded and replied, "Director Zhao, you go and keep them occupied so they can't come in. I'll take a look at Su Xianwu's body in the Body Storage Room first."
With that, Zhao Sanbao walked over to Su Xianwu's family, sitting down beside them to start a conversation. Taking advantage of the distraction, I quietly slipped into the Body Storage Room and locked the door behind me.
"That female ghost is called Su Xianwu. As long as I find her body, I can trace back to the mastermind," I thought. I knew that bodies in the funeral home were kept in the Freezer before cremation, and each Cabinet was labeled with the deceased's name. I carefully examined each of the two rows of Freezers.
After a while, I found a Cabinet labeled with Su Xianwu's name. I quickly grabbed the handle and pulled it open with all my strength. However, when I opened the Cabinet, it was empty—Su Xianwu's body was not inside.
