Wu Jie looked calmly into Huang Ping's eyes and said in a steady tone, "Officer Huang Ping, my name is Wu Jie, and I am an online streamer. When Cute was kidnapped, I was live streaming at home, and I have the video evidence to prove that I'm not lying."
"As for how I know the locations where the bodies are buried, if I could see ghosts, it was those spirits who told me directly. I don't know if you will believe me."
Huang Ping stared intently into Wu Jie's eyes, carefully observing his reactions. His experience told him that Wu Jie was not lying. Furrowing his brow, Huang Ping fell silent for a moment; he was an atheist and did not believe in the existence of ghosts.
Seeing Huang Ping's reaction, Wu Jie was not too surprised. If someone had told him two years ago that ghosts lived around him, he would have called them crazy. However, ever since Wu Jie activated his Wisdom Eye, he had seen many spirits that he could not see before, and his mindset had changed.
Wu Jie pointed to the left and said earnestly, "Officer Huang Ping, what I want to tell you is that there are nine other locations in this forest. I just checked those places; the soil there is also fresh. I suspect there are bodies buried there as well."
Upon hearing Wu Jie's words, Huang Ping's right eyelid twitched. He rubbed his temples and then nodded at Wu Jie, speaking coldly, "Wu Jie, where are the other nine locations? Take us there to have a look."
Wu Jie nodded and followed the marks he had left earlier. Soon, he found the nine locations where the bodies were buried.
Huang Ping closely followed behind Wu Jie. After examining the nine burial sites, his expression darkened significantly. After a moment of silence, he looked up at Wu Jie and asked seriously, "Wu Jie, are you sure these are the only places where bodies are buried? This forest is so large; are you certain there aren't more bodies buried elsewhere?"
"Officer Huang Ping, I'm not sure if there are more bodies in this forest. I suggest you call for more people to come over; perhaps we can conduct a thorough search together," Wu Jie replied, shaking his head. He could find these ten locations solely because he noticed the presence of Ghost Birds nearby. After eliminating those Ghost Birds, he discovered the burial sites.
Huang Ping nodded and walked aside alone. He took out his phone and dialed a number, saying into it, "Director, this is Huang Ping. There has been a change in our situation here. We have now found eleven suspected burial pits for bodies. I hope you can send more people over. The area is vast; there may be more bodies buried here."
Huang Ping carefully reported the situation at the scene over the phone and did not conceal anything about Wu Jie's explanation; he relayed everything truthfully.
About half an hour later, a cacophony of police sirens echoed from outside the forest. Huang Ping led everyone over and found that more than twenty police cars had arrived outside, crowding the area so much that some cars could not enter and had to park along the road nearby.
Among the police officers, there were those from the Criminal Investigation Division leading a Police Dog, ordinary officers cordoning off the scene with yellow tape, and members of the Forensic Science Unit equipped with cameras and toolboxes. Even the chief of the bureau had personally rushed over.
Wu Jie and Master Chen were not staff members, so they were quickly taken away from the scene. They were seen getting into different police cars, being taken to the nearest precinct to give their statements.
Meanwhile, Huang Ping led the arriving officers to the location where eleven bodies were buried. After considerable effort, they finally unearthed all eleven corpses. Among them, at the bottom of the first deep pit discovered, was the body of Chen Mengmeng.
Huang Ping looked at Chen Mengmeng's pale face and her tightly closed eyes. His emotions turned to intense anger; his eyes reddened, and his hands clenched into fists as he fought back tears.
Taking a deep breath, Huang Ping turned his gaze elsewhere to calm himself down. After a while, his emotions stabilized, and he looked back at Chen Mengmeng's body. This time, however, there was no emotion in his eyes; he seemed to be searching for something.
Huang Ping crouched beside Chen Mengmeng's body and carefully observed it two or three times. He felt that something was off but couldn't quite grasp what it was.
At that moment, a member of the Forensic Science Unit handed him an evidence bag containing a red string necklace. On the red string hung a thumb-sized light yellow Rabbit Statue that looked quite ordinary.
The forensic officer pointed to the statue in the bag and said, "Yellow Team, take a look at that rabbit's color; it seems a bit off. I suspect its material might be human bone. Yellow Team, could this be something left behind by those criminals?"
Suddenly, a flash of insight crossed Huang Ping's mind. His furrowed brow relaxed as his eyes sparkled with clarity. He said, "This is definitely something left by those criminals. Cute never liked wearing necklaces, nor has anyone ever given Cute such a gift."
Huang Ping returned the evidence bag to the officer and instructed, "Make sure to thoroughly examine this necklace; you must find useful leads. I'm going to check other areas."
With that, Huang Ping quickly ran toward the nearest body. He glanced at its neck and found it also wore a similar necklace. However, instead of a Rabbit Statue, it had a monkey statue hanging from the red string.
A glimmer of insight flashed in Huang Ping's eyes as he began to form suspicions in his mind. He turned and ran toward the other bodies; after examining them all, his suspicions grew increasingly tangible.
Huang Ping stood quietly in place, gazing at the last corpse adorned with a bull-shaped statue. He reached up to stroke his chin, murmuring to himself, "These necklaces are all related to the Zodiac Signs. The corpses already have statues of the Rat, Ox, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Now only the last statue of the Tiger remains. Is there still one more corpse hidden in this forest?"
"What could these criminals possibly want by hanging these items on the corpses? They couldn't have killed so many people at once, but where did they find all these bodies?" Huang Ping's brow furrowed deeply as his gaze grew profound, sinking into deep thought.
