Wu Jie nodded quickly and said, "Master Chen, I'm not lying to you. Cute is sitting right next to you. She's wearing a pink dress and has her hair in pigtails. Oh, and she has a beauty mark on her upper lip."
Wu Jie looked at Chen Mengmeng and roughly described her to Master Chen. Upon hearing Wu Jie's description, Master Chen's eyes turned red, and tears streamed down his face.
Wiping away his tears, Master Chen gazed lovingly at the empty seat beside him and spoke in a low voice, "Wu Jie, you're not mistaken. That person is my Cute. I remember the day something happened to her; she was wearing that pink dress she loved the most, and I was the one who styled her hair."
Master Chen recounted the events surrounding Chen Mengmeng to Wu Jie in a broken voice, and before long, half an hour had passed. Although he couldn't see Chen Mengmeng's spirit, he remained fixated on the empty seat beside him.
Hearing Master Chen's account, Wu Jie finally understood what had happened. It turned out that one afternoon seven days ago, a group of criminals had kidnapped Chen Mengmeng from school and called Master Chen to demand a ransom of two hundred thousand yuan. They warned him not to contact the police, or they would kill Chen Mengmeng.
To rescue Chen Mengmeng, Master Chen withdrew all his savings from the bank and borrowed thirty to forty thousand from relatives and friends to gather the ransom.
However, after handing over the money to the criminals, they did not release Chen Mengmeng but instead killed her and sent a photo of her lifeless body to Master Chen.
Upon receiving the photo, Master Chen was devastated. By the time he contacted the police, it was already too late. The criminals had erased all traces of themselves and vanished without a trace. Even now, the police had yet to find Chen Mengmeng's body.
Wu Jie glanced sympathetically at Master Chen and asked Chen Mengmeng, "Cute, do you remember where your body is hidden?"
Chen Mengmeng nodded and pointed toward the east. "Wu Jie brother, my body is buried in that forest over there, a bit far from here. But I can lead you to that place."
Wu Jie tapped on the transparent glass in front of him and said, "Master Chen, Cute remembers where her body is buried. We just need to follow her directions to find it."
Master Chen wiped his nose and became excited upon hearing that they could find Chen Mengmeng's body. He took out his phone and dialed a number, saying a few words before hanging up.
Master Chen clasped his fists and bowed to Wu Jie, speaking earnestly, "Wu Jie, I'm in trouble this time. As long as you help me find Cute's body, you will be my great Savior, Chen Ke. I will repay your kindness in this lifetime, even if I have to work like a beast."
Wu Jie quickly waved his hand at Master Chen, saying, "Master Chen, please don't say that. I'm just free today and thought I'd lend you a hand; it's nothing much. Don't take it to heart."
Wu Jie understood that the matter at hand was more pressing. He would have to find another time to visit He Ying's shop, but he didn't mention it to Master Chen.
After more than half an hour, two police cars arrived behind Master Chen's taxi. A man in his forties stepped out of one of the cars and walked over to knock on Master Chen's window. When Master Chen rolled it down, the man glanced at Wu Jie in the back seat and said, "Chen Ke, we are old friends. Are you sure your information this time is reliable?"
Master Chen nodded confidently and replied, "Huang Ping, just trust me this once. I won't deceive you this time!"
Seeing Master Chen's haggard appearance and the tear stains on his face, Huang Ping nodded. He placed a reassuring hand on Master Chen's shoulder and said firmly, "Chen Ke, I watched Cute grow up. Those bastards who killed Cute will pay for their crimes. As long as I find a single clue, even if I have to chase them to the ends of the earth, I will bring them to justice. Don't worry."
Master Chen had called Huang Ping earlier; although he was eager to find Cute's body, he was even more determined to catch those responsible for Cute's death. So he managed to calm himself down and informed the police officer Huang Ping ahead of time.
Thus, under Chen Mengmeng's direction, Wu Jie repeated the directions back to Master Chen. In this way, the three vehicles proceeded steadily toward the grove where Chen Mengmeng had indicated.
After more than three hours, they finally arrived at the edge of the grove. However, it was getting late, and darkness had begun to settle in around them.
Huang Ping took a powerful flashlight from the police car and handed it to Master Chen. Behind him were five uniformed officers, each holding flashlights; some even carried shovels and hoes—tools that Huang Ping had prepared in advance.
The grove before them was somewhat remote; there were no nearby residences, and vehicles passing through were rare.
Huang Ping looked at the trees ahead with a furrowed brow and asked Master Chen doubtfully, "Chen Ke, this grove is beyond our previously estimated crime scene range. Are you sure Cute is really buried here?"
Master Chen nodded and said firmly, "Huang Ping, just trust me this time. Cute is really buried right here."
Wu Jie got out of the taxi at that moment. He didn't speak to Master Chen but silently followed behind Chen Mengmeng, quickly making his way into the woods.
Wu Jie noticed that the once lively and adorable Loli had suddenly become silent, her body trembling slightly. Frowning, he rushed over and gently patted Chen Mengmeng's head, smiling as he said, "Cute, are you scared? You don't need to be afraid; Big Brother is right beside you, and your dad is just behind you. Those bad people can't hurt you."
Chen Mengmeng slowly regained her composure. She looked up at Wu Jie and smiled, saying, "Thank you, Wu Jie brother."
With that, Chen Mengmeng continued deeper into the woods while Master Chen and the others followed leisurely behind Wu Jie.
After more than ten minutes, they arrived in front of a large tree. The soil at the base of the tree was noticeably fresher than the surrounding earth, and there was no grass growing on it, clearly indicating it had been dug up not long ago.
Standing in front of the large tree, Chen Mengmeng pointed at the soil with a complex expression and said, "Wu Jie brother, my body is buried underneath here."
