After I locked the shop door with He Ying and gathered all the charms inside, we quickly chased after Wu Jie and the others.
He Ying looked at me with confusion and asked, "Jiang Ling, do you have a way to sell these charms? What exactly is your plan?"
I smiled and shook my head, saying, "He Ying, don't ask just yet. Just follow behind Wu Jie, and you'll find out soon enough."
He Ying nodded. Seeing that I was unwilling to reveal anything further, she decided not to press the matter. She thought to herself that since we had already sold five charms today, it was already a good business.
He Ying and I followed Wu Jie for about forty to fifty minutes before they finally stopped.
Along the way, Wu Jie interacted with his live-streaming audience, laughing continuously. Some passersby even recognized him and rushed over to take pictures with him.
I searched for Wu Jie’s name on my phone and discovered that he was quite a famous streamer, with around a million viewers tuning in to his broadcasts.
The three bodyguards in black beside Wu Jie had already noticed He Ying and me. They shot us a cold glance before turning to Wu Jie and reported, "Wu Jie, those two selling charms have been following us. I'm worried they might disrupt your live stream. Should we take action to drive them away?"
Wu Jie looked in the direction indicated by the bodyguard and broke into a sunny smile, waving at He Ying and me. He said to the bodyguard, "Don't be too tense. They don't look like bad people at all. Besides, even if they wanted to cause trouble, can’t you three bodyguards handle it?"
Then Wu Jie turned around to look around. He heard a girl’s scream coming from the alley on the left. However, it didn’t sound like fear; it was more of excitement.
"Let’s go check it out and see who’s over there," Wu Jie said as he led his bodyguards into the alley, only to find it packed with people.
At the back of the crowd stood five young individuals—three men dressed in designer clothes with diamond-studded watches, looking very much like tycoons. The other two women were voluptuous, heavily made up, wearing sheer clothing and extremely short skirts that left little to the imagination.
The five individuals were streamers on the same platform as Wu Jie, accompanied by a group of bodyguards dressed in black. Nearby, someone was filming them with a camera.
The earlier screams from girls were due to these five conducting a random draw, giving away a smartphone to one lucky girl.
Tian Long pulled out another unopened phone from his bag, shaking it in his hand as he shouted, "Is there anyone else who wants to participate? Just spit into this fire pit, and you could win a phone worth five thousand yuan. If you want to join, hurry over!"
Tian Long was the leader among the five. They had built up some popularity through their prank streams, although their fame paled in comparison to Wu Jie.
He Ying and I walked into the alley, and through the gaps in the crowd, I spotted a fire pit in front of Tian Long. Inside were unburned paper offerings and items meant for the deceased, with faint flames still flickering on the papers.
I cast a cold glance at the five streamers, arms crossed over my chest, muttering to myself, "These people are courting disaster. Let's just wait and see what happens!"
On the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, the Ghost Gate Opens; souls that have died but not yet reincarnated return to the Yang Realm to visit their living relatives.
On the eighteenth day of the seventh lunar month, the Closing of the Ghost Gate occurs, and all souls must return to the Underworld. Their living relatives will burn offerings for them.
Now that Tian Long and his friends had destroyed these offerings meant for the dead, it was easy to imagine what would happen next—the spirits would not let them off easily.
I glanced around and soon spotted an elderly Male Ghost standing beside Tian Long and his group. The ghost looked about eighty years old and was glaring at them with resentment, an aura of faint killing intent surrounding him.
"Cough cough, hey you over there, come here," I said, clearing my throat while emanating a hint of Daoist Magic. I beckoned to the Male Ghost with my finger.
Sensing my aura, the Male Ghost trembled slightly, dissipating his killing intent as he obediently approached me. He clasped his hands in front of me in a gesture of respect and said, "Master Mage, these people are too despicable! I can only receive offerings once a year, and now they’ve destroyed everything I had. I can't survive like this. Master Mage, you have to help me!"
I led the Male Ghost out of the alley and into an empty area. In a cold tone, I said, "Although those five people destroyed your offerings, you just had murderous thoughts. If I hadn't stopped you, were you really planning to harm them?"
The Male Ghost before me lacked any cultivation, but if he were to drop a brick from mid-air or cover Tian Long's eyes while they were driving, accidents could easily happen. If this Male Ghost truly wanted to kill Tian Long and the others, there were many ways he could do it.
"Master Mage, I was wrong. I was momentarily blinded by anger. Please forgive me this once," the Male Ghost pleaded as he knelt before me, his voice trembling.
Seeing that this Male Ghost was not inherently bad, I helped him up from the ground and said, "Don't worry, I won't kill you. Your offerings were destroyed; tonight you can visit your family in their dreams and ask them to burn some more offerings for you. As for those who ruined your offerings, you can punish them a little, but don't take their lives. Go on!"
Upon hearing that I allowed him to punish Tian Long and the others, excitement flashed across the Male Ghost's face. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he clasped his fists in gratitude and said, "Thank you, Master Mage!"
With that, the Male Ghost flickered and dashed back into the alley. He looked at Tian Long with a wicked grin. Suddenly, he swayed and plunged directly into Tian Long's body.
"Hmm..." Tian Long shuddered, closing his eyes. After a second, he opened them again, but his gaze had transformed into that of another person.
"Hehe, darling, come give me a kiss," Tian Long suddenly grabbed a nearby Male Anchor and leaned in to kiss him. Caught off guard by the suddenness of it all, the Male Anchor was taken by surprise and found himself forcefully kissed by Tian Long.
