The train pulled into Mianyang Train Station, where a crowd of medical personnel had gathered. They were carrying stretchers, ready to take the injured from the train to the hospital for treatment.
Qu Liang and I briefly recounted the events to the train conductor, omitting certain details, such as Liu Yunchong's identity as a Grave Robber and the existence of the treasure map.
It wasn't that I didn't want to share everything; it was just that even if I did, they might not believe me and would think I was making things up.
After confirming our story with others, the conductor decided not to take us to the police station for questioning.
He informed the Police Station Officers at the station about the situation on the train. I saw those officers armed and accompanied by a Police Dog, heading in the direction Liu Yunchong had fled.
The conductor did not follow them. Instead, he approached me with a sincere tone, saying, "I apologize for what you experienced on our train. This is our fault! I will report this to my superiors and discuss compensation for you. Please do not disclose this information to the media!"
"We understand!" I nodded. I didn't want to escalate things too much; it wouldn't benefit me either. Liu Yunchong had taken the treasure map, achieving his goal, and he wouldn't come after Qu Liang and me again. If I exposed Liu Yunchong to the media, who knew how he might react in anger against us?
As the saying goes, it's easy to dodge an open arrow but hard to guard against a hidden one! A Grave Robber like Liu Yunchong lurking in the shadows made one uneasy. It wasn't that I feared him; I just didn't want to act recklessly like before.
"Liu Yunchong, this isn't over! You took the treasure map; you must go to the Tomb marked on it. I'll be waiting there for my chance at revenge!" I clenched my fists, a glint of murderous intent flashing in my eyes as I silently vowed.
Qu Liang noticed the change in my expression and grasped my hand. "Jiang Ling, let's not go treasure hunting anymore. Can we just go back?"
Her face showed guilt; she felt responsible for suggesting this treasure hunt in the first place. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have encountered Liu Yunchong, and I wouldn't have been injured.
I smiled and ruffled Qu Liang's hair. "Silly girl, what are you thinking? This isn't your fault! Don't overthink it! Going back now isn't an option, but don't worry; I won't act rashly again!"
Seeing my determined attitude, Qu Liang stopped trying to persuade me further. She held my hand and quietly stayed by my side. Soon enough, I was lifted onto an ambulance outside the train station, and we were both taken to the hospital.
In a remote area of Mianyang at the Foot of the Tomb Mountain, a group had rented out the only inn at that location. Most of them were American Mercenaries, hired by a middle-aged white man named Dillingchar.
Outside the inn, four or five Mercenaries were patrolling. Dillingchar sat in the lobby, watching the five Chinese men in front of him with a displeased expression.
Unable to endure it any longer, Dillingchar stood up and rushed over, loudly questioning in Chinese, "Mr. Wu, my men have found the entrance to the Tomb. It has been over seven hours since they entered, and it’s dark now; they can only set out again. What are you waiting for?"
The Mr. Wu that Dillingchar referred to was actually Wu Jingye. Ever since he had slain the Drought Demon, he had been assigned by the organization to assist Dillingchar in searching for an ancient artifact, the Nine-Dragon Cauldron.
Wu Jingye had followed the clues all the way here and finally confirmed that the Nine-Dragon Cauldron was located in a Tomb deep within Mianyang's mountains. Thus, the current situation arose.
Wu Jingye took a sip of tea, unhurriedly replying, "Dillingchar, I’m not idle! I’m just a Taoist priest who knows how to use Taoist methods to subdue demons! Tomb raiding is very risky; I’m not very skilled at it, so I contacted professionals for help! Just wait a bit longer; according to plan, that Grave Robber should be arriving in Mianyang soon!"
Wu Jingye didn’t have much fondness for Dillingchar. He thought to himself that Dillingchar was a foreigner who brazenly came to his homeland seeking treasure without regard for its people. If it weren’t for organizational ties, Wu Jingye wouldn’t have bothered to assist Dillingchar.
Suppressing his anger, Dillingchar impatiently asked, "Mr. Wu, where is that Grave Robber you hired now?"
"He should be at Mianyang Train Station by now. Let me make a call!" Wu Jingye noticed Dillingchar’s rising anger and didn’t want to ruin their relationship, so he took out his phone, found a number, and dialed.
The phone screen displayed the note: Grave Robber, Liu Yunchong!
On the other end, after jumping off the train, Liu Yunchong quickly identified a direction and ran out fast. He soon disappeared from sight after crossing the train tracks.
Liu Yunchong ran several miles before finally stopping to rest against a tree by the roadside. He took out the treasure map from his belongings and excitedly examined it. After confirming it was genuine, a fervent smile spread across his face: "Haha! I didn’t expect this train ride would yield such unexpected gains! Wu Jingye only showed me a quarter of the treasure map; now I have the complete version and don’t need to cooperate with them at all!"
"To raid tombs, one must rely on their own people; that’s how you can feel secure!" Liu Yunchong tucked away the treasure map and took out his phone to send several encrypted text messages. Only through their agreed-upon method could these messages be deciphered.
The content of the messages roughly stated: Tomorrow morning at eight o'clock, meet in a certain deep mountain in Mianyang; there’s big loot to be had—more people are better; Cloudwalker is invited!
Every Grave Robber has their own title, and when inviting others, they always leave their title at the end of the message so that the recipient knows who is reaching out. Liu Yunchong's title is Cloudwalker!
"That should do it! I’ll find a place to stay for the night and study this treasure map thoroughly!" After sending the message, Liu Yunchong was about to put his phone away when he received a call from Wu Jingye.
Once the call connected, Wu Jingye's voice came through: "Hello, Liu Yunchong, where are you right now?"
"Wu Jingye, I’m already in Mianyang! But you don’t need to wait for me; I plan to go underground by myself!" Liu Yunchong replied candidly. Although they were Grave Robbers who would stop at nothing when it came to tomb raiding, they never hid their actions above ground.
Wu Jingye frowned and probed, "Liu Yunchong, do you already know the location of that Tomb?"
"Haha, what a coincidence! I just got my hands on a treasure map, and it happens to be the same one you showed me!" Liu Yunchong laughed heartily and said proudly, "Wu Jingye, you and your employer can wait until I finish underground. Whatever he wants, he can buy from me; the price is negotiable!"
With that, Liu Yunchong hung up the phone. On the other end, Wu Jingye and his companions looked rather displeased.
"Mr. Wu, is this really the person you brought in?" Dillingchar slammed his fist on the table angrily. They had waited all afternoon only to end up with this result, which was hard for him to accept.
Wu Jingye put away his phone and stood up. "Dillingchar, have your men keep an eye on the entrance of the Tomb. Follow the plan and don’t lose your composure!"
