"Get away from me!" Jiao Zhi Hong shouted, swinging the steel pipe in her hand and striking the shoulder of the man in front of her, sending him flying. This was still a mercy from Jiao Zhi Hong; had she aimed for his head, he would have likely met a fatal end. 0

"Jiao Zhi Hong is incredible!" I watched in shock as she took action, speechless. Although Jiao Zhi Hong was a girl, her skills were extraordinary. Even I doubted I could last more than twenty moves against her, which explained why she had become a leader in the underworld. 0

"Jiao Zhi Hong, since you dare to come here seeking death, I'll grant your wish!" The Evil Insect Master sneered as he saw Jiao Zhi Hong charging towards him with her crew. He pulled out a bell from his pocket, raised it above his head, and began to shake it rhythmically while muttering incantations, looking utterly deranged. 0

Seeing the Evil Insect Master's actions, Jiao Zhi Hong furrowed her brows and warned, "Masters, that Evil Insect Master is about to summon his invulnerable minions. After that, I’ll be counting on you!" 0

I nodded and replied, "Boss Horn, don't worry. Those monsters won't be able to harm you!" 0

As the sound of the bell echoed from the Evil Insect Master's hand, the Walking Corpses hidden among the crowd finally revealed their grotesque faces. They let out guttural roars, tearing away their disguises to expose pale skin, emaciated bodies, and hollow eyes. They moved stiffly towards the Evil Insect Master. 0

"There are seven Walking Corpses in total. Jiang Ling, you handle them while I protect Jiao Zhi Hong!" Lin Ziran said calmly. Although I was a bit annoyed by Lin Ziran's orders, my current Buddhist Power was limited; I couldn't provide close protection for Jiao Zhi Hong but could manage to deal with these Walking Corpses. 0

"Lin Ziran, I'll take care of the Walking Corpses! Just make sure you don't die; I still need to challenge you at Maoshan!" I said with a smile, temporarily setting aside my grievances against Lin Ziran as I charged forward with my Demon-Subduing Staff. Lin Ziran looked surprised at my words but nodded and replied, "Jiang Ling, you take care too!" 0

I dashed into the crowd directly towards the Walking Corpses. No one attempted to stop me as I easily reached the nearest one. 0

This particular Walking Corpse appeared to be a young man in his twenties. His eyes were hollow and devoid of life as he let out low growls and mindlessly shuffled forward. 0

"What the hell is this? Why is it so tough?" One of Jiao Zhi Hong's subordinates swung his blade fiercely at the Walking Corpse. The blade struck its arm but only left a shallow cut; instead, he felt a numbing shock in his hand as if he might drop the blade. 0

"Roar!" The Walking Corpse sensed the threat and let out a hoarse growl, clawing at the man with its gnarled hands. 0

The man had not yet reacted when he was suddenly grabbed by the arm by the Walking Corpse. He struggled fiercely but could not break free from its grip. 0

"Help! Someone help me!" The man cried out in panic as he saw the Walking Corpse open its mouth and lunge toward his arm. Cold sweat poured down his face as he shouted for assistance. 0

"Demon, cease your rampage!" I shouted, rushing to the man's side, swinging my Demon-Subduing Staff at the Walking Corpse's head. With all my strength, I struck it hard enough to twist its head at an unnatural angle, narrowly saving the man. 0

The Demon-Subduing Staff was a Buddhist artifact specifically designed to subdue demons and monsters, making it easy to injure the Walking Corpse before me. 0

"This is my fight; you go deal with the others!" I said without looking back. The man nodded quickly and ran away. 0

The Walking Corpse released its hold on him with a pained growl, turning its fury toward me. A gaping hole had been smashed into its head, and a foul white liquid oozed from the wound, releasing a putrid corpse stench. I could even see maggots writhing in the white fluid, which was utterly disgusting. 0

"You think you can take me on? You're overestimating yourself!" I said calmly. While I might struggle against gangsters, dealing with this low-level Walking Corpse was child's play. 0

"Namo Amitabha Buddha! Fear not; I will free you!" I chanted a Buddhist phrase sincerely as I looked at the Walking Corpse, striking its throat with my Demon-Subduing Staff. 0

A corpse becomes a Walking Corpse when a breath is trapped within it, usually sealed in the throat or Dantian. If that breath can be forced out of the Walking Corpse's body, it will revert to being just a corpse. 0

The Demon-Subduing Staff hit the Walking Corpse's throat, shattering it and releasing a cloud of black Corpse Qi that dissipated into the air, making the surrounding atmosphere unbearable. 0

"Roar~~" The Walking Corpse let out a hoarse cry, clutching its throat as its body swayed unsteadily. After a few seconds, it collapsed to the ground, lifeless once more. The flesh on its body began to rot at an alarming rate, quickly emitting a nauseating corpse stench. 0

"What is that foul thing?" The people around us pinched their noses at the smell and stopped fighting. When they saw the decaying corpse on the ground, fear filled their eyes. They instinctively stepped back, distancing themselves from the rotting body. 0

Before I killed the Walking Corpse, I sincerely chanted a line from Buddhism. After defeating the creature, I felt a surge of Buddhist Power within me. My heart stirred with joy as I exclaimed, "So it really is possible to cultivate Buddhism!" 0

"Although the increase is minimal, every little bit counts!" Excitement flashed in my eyes as I gripped the Demon-Subduing Staff and charged at another Walking Corpse. 0

My speed in taking down a Walking Corpse was not slow; it took me less than a minute. By the time I had dealt with all the Walking Corpses, it had only taken me about ten minutes. My Buddhist Power had increased by seven strands, and now it felt as substantial as my finger. 0

I savored the feeling of my enhanced Buddhist Power, contentedly muttering to myself, "Right now, my magical energy might not be enough to cast even the most basic Spell of the Buddhist Sect, but at least there's hope for becoming stronger!" 0

The Evil Insect Master naturally noticed my presence, but he was too preoccupied with Lin Ziran and Jiao Zhi Hong to pay me any mind. When he saw that all the Walking Corpses had been eliminated by me, his face twisted in rage as he shouted at me, "Damn monk! All my hard work in creating those Walking Corpses has gone to waste because of you! I will kill you and turn your body into a Walking Corpse!" 0

"Oh! What are you all waiting for? Come out and help!" The Evil Insect Master let out a long howl, calling out to the beasts hiding among the crowd. 0

"Evil Insect Master, you're truly incompetent if you can't even handle these weaklings! Do we really have to step in?" Eleven beasts surged from the crowd, surrounding Jiao Zhi Hong and Lin Ziran. They looked mockingly at Lin Ziran and his companions, not rushing to attack. 0

"Leave these people to you; I want to personally kill that damn monk!" The Evil Insect Master said angrily as he approached me step by step, ringing a bell in his hand. 0

Thanks to Mingyue Youmeng for the donation… It's been so long since I've received one; I'm really touched! Here's an extra chapter! 0
