"I don't know where Lele went," I shook my head and asked with some confusion, "Uncle Chu, who exactly is Lele's father?"
Chuxiubin's expression darkened as he looked into the distance at Zhao Mingyue. "Who else could it be? It's that Beastly Director, Wang Xinyu. On the surface, he seems like a good person, but behind the scenes, he does all sorts of inhumane things. It's just a pity for Zhao Mingyue and that child."
I felt sympathy for Zhao Mingyue's plight. If she didn't truly love Lele, the Ninefold Grudge Infant would have likely taken her life long ago. Although I had my suspicions about Lele's father, hearing it confirmed by Chuxiubin was still shocking.
"I think if Lele hasn't reported to the Underworld, he must be seeking revenge on his father." Even though I had removed the Grievance from the Ninefold Grudge Infant, his hatred for Wang Xinyu had not dissipated. If revenge was on his mind, Wang Xinyu would undoubtedly be at the top of his list.
If Wang Xinyu felt any remorse for Lele's death, perhaps the Ninefold Grudge Infant would spare him. But if Wang Xinyu felt no guilt whatsoever, then it was likely that the Ninefold Grudge Infant would kill him. Although Wang Xinyu deserved it, once Lele took a life, he might fall into the Evil Path and never return.
"I have to stop the Ninefold Grudge Infant," I stood up and rushed out of the room, determined to find Lele. At that moment, I realized I was completely lost like a headless fly, unsure of where to start looking.
"I'll go with you! I know roughly where Lele is," Chuxiubin followed me out. It turned out that Chuxiubin had placed Blood-Sucking Worms inside the Ninefold Grudge Infant to prevent him from harming anyone in the Mental Hospital. Now he was relying on his connection to the Blood-Sucking Worms to locate the Ninefold Grudge Infant.
"Nurse Chu, you must save my child! You have to bring my child back! Please!" Zhao Mingyue knelt before me and Chuxiubin, crying desperately, looking particularly pitiful.
"Zhao Mingyue, get up! I will bring Lele back!" Chuxiubin helped her up and led me out through the back door of the hospital. Meanwhile, Li Hanling in the monitoring room remained completely unaware of what was happening.
In a remote area outside the suburbs, there were uneven buildings surrounded by trash and weeds. Such a dilapidated place was a haven for criminals. The Black Market Hospital chosen by Wang Xinyu was located somewhere within this area.
At that moment, Wang Xinyu had already entered the hospital. Three men stood before him; one wore glasses and a white coat—he was Cui Lu, the owner of the Black Market Hospital and its only doctor. The other two men were his subordinates who usually brought clients in for abortions and occasionally assisted Cui Lu in surgeries.
Cui Lu's hospital was located underground; the environment was damp and poorly decorated, far from meeting surgical standards. Under the harsh lighting, one could see an operating table placed in the center of the room with blood-stained cloth scattered across the floor—a scene that was extremely unsanitary.
They were taken aback when Wang Xinyu suddenly appeared. Cui Lu's face broke into a sly smile as he teased, "Director Wang, have you gotten one of your patients pregnant again and come to us for help?"
Wang Xinyu stood before Cui Lu, furious, grabbing his collar and demanding loudly, "Cui Lu, what have you done? Why is that child still alive? I heard its cries in the hospital today!"
"Director Wang, let's keep it civil; no need to get physical!" One of Cui Lu's subordinates pulled Wang Xinyu away, preventing him from getting any closer to Cui Lu.
Cui Lu rolled his eyes at Wang Xinyu and nonchalantly dug at his ear. "Director Wang, that woman is barely six months pregnant. Even if she hadn't terminated the pregnancy, she couldn't give birth right now! Can you stop being so foolish? Besides, I've performed no fewer than a hundred surgeries without a single failure!"
Wang Xinyu was momentarily stunned by Cui Lu's words. It finally registered with him. However, he had indeed heard the child's cries in the hospital. He stared blankly at Cui Lu and asked, "Then tell me, whose child was crying in the hospital?"
One of Cui Lu's subordinates chuckled. "Director Wang, are you having some sort of mental episode? There can't possibly be a child's cries; maybe you're just hallucinating!"
"Or perhaps it's not a hallucination at all; maybe our esteemed Director Wang has encountered a ghost! Haha!" another chimed in with laughter.
Wang Xinyu frowned deeply, now uncertain about his earlier judgment. Could it really be a hallucination? He angrily cursed, "How can that dead child be such a nuisance? Even after being aborted, it still clings to me! I must have run out of luck!"
As soon as Wang Xinyu finished speaking, a chilling wind swept through the room, causing all four of them to shiver.
"What’s going on? Why is it so cold? Old Lu, go check it out!" Cui Lu said with a shiver, an ominous feeling creeping into his mind.
No sooner had Cui Lu spoken than there was a loud bang from one of the light bulbs in the room, which exploded into shards. The light dimmed significantly, leaving only faint silhouettes visible before them.
"Who’s playing tricks here? Show yourself!" shouted one of Cui Lu's subordinates as he picked up two steel pipes and yelled into the empty space. Their voices echoed in the room, but no one responded.
The cold wind in the room grew stronger, and faintly, a sound mixed with the wind could be heard—a child's cry.
Wang Xinyu was so frightened by the sound that his legs went weak. He fell to the ground and said with a trembling voice, "That's the crying I heard! The dead child has come back! He's here to take revenge on us! It must be true!"
Cui Lu glanced at Wang Xinyu with a hint of guilt. He kicked Wang Xinyu and shouted, "Stop talking nonsense! There are no ghosts in this world! Besides, there's no child's cry here—stop trying to scare people!"
As soon as Cui Lu finished speaking, the previously faint crying suddenly became loud, echoing throughout the entire room. Everyone inside was drenched in cold sweat.
"Boss, what should we do?" one of Cui Lu's subordinates asked nervously. Cui Lu forced himself to suppress his fear. He rummaged through a nearby box and pulled out a flashlight. Turning it on, he said, "Let's huddle together. There's no way four of us can't handle one ghost! I, Cui Lu, can kill him once; I can kill him again!"
Everyone gathered closer to Cui Lu. Even the collapsed Wang Xinyu looked up, but his eyes were filled with terror. He pointed behind Cui Lu and stammered, "Four people! There are four people over there!"
Upon hearing Wang Xinyu's words, Cui Lu's face turned pale as he turned to look behind him. To his shock, there was indeed an extra figure standing there.
"Ghost! There's a ghost!" Cui Lu screamed as he bolted for the exit, his earlier bravado completely vanished.
