The Game Room suddenly fell silent, and the crowd outside was momentarily taken aback. Even Zhao Mingyue, who had been crying and frantically trying to rush in, stopped. All eyes turned to Chuxiubin.
Chuxiubin furrowed his brow, uncertain about what had happened inside. He glanced at Wang Dan and said, "Wang Dan, open the door. Let's go in and take a look!"
Wang Dan opened the door, and Chuxiubin led everyone inside. When they saw the wreckage of the Game Room, their hearts sank, completely oblivious to me lying beneath their feet.
"Ouch! Damn it, get off me!" I had been sleeping soundly when a sudden pain jolted me awake. I opened my eyes to find Wang Dan standing on my back.
"Jiang Ling, what are you doing lying here?" Wang Dan awkwardly stepped off me. Looking at my bruised face, he smirked and said, "Did Lele beat you up?"
I shot Wang Dan a glare, thinking they must know about the existence of the Ninefold Grudge Infant and had deliberately brought me here. Anger surged within me as I rushed up to Chuxiubin, grabbing his collar and shouting, "Nurse Chu, are you trying to get me killed? You actually want me to deal with the Ninefold Grudge Infant!"
I might have pulled too hard; two buttons from Chuxiubin's Nurse Uniform popped off, tearing a large hole in his shirt and revealing a striped Patient Gown underneath.
"Jiang Ling, what are you doing? Let go of Nurse Chu!" Wang Dan rushed over to pull me away, looking at me with irritation. In contrast, Chuxiubin didn't seem angry at all; he simply removed his outer Nurse Uniform, exposing the original Patient Gown. I noticed a number on his chest: Number 1, with his name written below it: Chuxiubin.
"What is going on?" My mind struggled to comprehend why Chuxiubin was pretending to be a nurse and where the real nurses had gone. Why did all these patients respect Chuxiubin so much? Why were there no other people in this hospital besides patients? Everything felt eerily strange. As I thought about this, cold sweat broke out on my back, and I instinctively took a few steps back.
"What are you?" I asked, staring into Chuxiubin's eyes with some trepidation.
Chuxiubin smiled gently and waved for me to follow him. "Come with me; it's time we had a proper talk! You don't need to be afraid of me because I have a son named Chu Pengpeng!"
With that, Chuxiubin turned and confidently walked outside, believing I would follow him.
I was shocked by the last sentence, my mind racing with thoughts: "This Chuxiubin is actually Pengpeng's father? The one who went insane and was locked away? What a coincidence!"
Despite my confusion, I followed Chuxiubin outside. He led me to his room, where I saw many photos on the walls. Among them were numerous pictures of Pengpeng and Chuxiubin together, both smiling happily.
Chuxiubin gazed at Pengpeng's photo, his eyes filled with nostalgia and sorrow. He sighed and sat on the bed, saying to me, "Jiang Ling, tell me your story with Pengpeng."
Looking at those photos and sensing the sadness in Chuxiubin's voice, I began to believe in his identity. I nodded and sat beside him, starting to recount my experiences with Pengpeng.
After more than an hour, I finished telling everything. To my surprise, a tear rolled down Chuxiubin's cheek. He quickly wiped it away and expressed a hint of regret, saying, "I truly owe him an apology! I failed to protect him!"
Chuxiubin clenched his fists tightly, his tone resolute as he declared, "I will definitely find the person who harmed Pengpeng! Jiang Ling, this matter has nothing to do with you; it's better if you stay out of it!"
I could feel the anger and determination within Chuxiubin. I forced a smile and nodded, saying, "Uncle Chu, my powers have been rendered useless; I can't help you now. It's up to you regarding Pengpeng's situation!"
Chuxiubin looked at me in surprise and grabbed my left hand. "Your powers are gone? Let me take a look!"
I nodded and accepted his help. Chuxiubin opened his mouth and pulled out a small bug the size of a fingernail. It had a peculiar appearance with many legs and a large pointed mouth in the middle of its body, looking somewhat terrifying.
Seeing my fear, Chuxiubin quickly reassured me, "Jiang Ling, don't be afraid; this is my Blood-Sucking Worm. It won't harm you!"
Years ago, Chuxiubin had been cursed by someone and lost his sanity due to the Blood-Sucking Worms. By chance, he managed to subdue them within himself and became a Gu Master.
I forced myself to suppress my fear as the strange Blood-Sucking Worm crawled onto me. Chuxiubin controlled it as it moved around my body, occasionally biting me but causing no harm.
After more than ten minutes, Chuxiubin was already sweating profusely, and his expression had turned extremely grim. He sighed, retracted the Blood-Sucking Worms, and said, "Jiang Ling, your powers have been rendered useless by a master. I can't help you with that. But it's not all bad; at least you can live a normal life without being bound by these ghosts and monsters."
I felt a bit disappointed but nodded and smiled, "I understand, Uncle Chu. By the way, what's going on with this hospital? Why can't I see any doctors or nurses?"
Chuxiubin wiped the sweat from his forehead and replied angrily, "The hospital director, Wang Xinyu, is nothing but a beast. A month ago, to cover up what happened with Zhao Mingyue, he put all the medical staff on leave. In a fit of rage, I used the Blood-Sucking Worms to control all the patients and drove those people away. Now, I'm both the nurse and the doctor in this hospital."
"You controlled everyone with Blood-Sucking Worms?" I looked at Chuxiubin in horror. Controlling people's minds with sorcery is a huge taboo for Gu Masters. If anyone found out, Chuxiubin would definitely be hunted down by everyone in the Yin-Yang Realms.
Chuxiubin seemed to see through my thoughts and explained, "Jiang Ling, you don't need to look at me like that. Although I used sorcery on them, I didn't control anyone's mind. I used a calming potion to help them settle the chaos in their heads; there was no malice involved."
I nodded, feeling relieved. I thought to myself that I was truly judging him with my own perspective.
Chuxiubin recounted what had happened in the hospital, including the appearance of the Ninefold Grudge Infant and the Taoists that Wang Xinyu had invited. It was then that I realized my inexplicable presence here was due to someone specifically inviting me to deal with the Ninefold Grudge Infant.
After chatting for a while longer, Chuxiubin suddenly asked, "Jiang Ling, do you know where Lele went?"
