The ordinary Paper Spirits are usually made from talisman paper, but the one before me, Liu Xin, was surprisingly crafted by an Evil Cultivator Mage using Human Skin.
To create a Human Skin Paper Spirit, one must peel off an entire layer of Human Skin from a Living Person, ensuring that the person does not die before the skin is completely removed. Once the Human Skin is obtained, it must be inscribed with spells using Maiden's Heart Blood. Only after all the spells are inscribed can the actual process of creating the Paper Spirit begin.
Human Skin Paper Spirits are extremely evil and difficult to successfully create; however, once successfully made, their power is four to five times greater than that of an ordinary Paper Spirit. Moreover, crafting one typically results in the loss of several lives, making Human Skin Paper Spirits forbidden items in the Yin-Yang Realm. Very few dare to attempt their creation.
I looked at Liu Xin with a complex expression. To be turned into a Human Skin Paper Spirit was indeed pitiful for her. I sighed and said seriously, "You are a Human Skin Paper Spirit; let me help you find peace!"
Liu Xin scoffed disdainfully and replied, "You? Don't be delusional!"
As she finished speaking, she began to chant strange incantations. Her voice fluctuated wildly, sounding exceptionally grating. I felt a ringing in my ears and couldn't help but step back a few paces.
I stuffed two talismans into my ears, which made me feel somewhat better. When I looked back at Liu Xin, her appearance had undergone a drastic transformation. The spells inscribed on her body glowed bright red, with some areas even oozing blood; those spells looked as if they had just been carved.
Seeing Liu Xin's transformation sent a chill down my spine. The spells inscribed on a Human Skin Paper Spirit are one-time use spells that can double the spirit's power. Once activated, it meant that this Paper Spirit was fighting for its life.
"Is Liu Xin going insane?" I thought as I noticed that the spells on her body had not fully activated yet. I quickly drew my Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and swung it toward Liu Xin, disregarding her piercing voice.
"Seven Stars Shine Brightly, Mysterious Dragon Vanquish Evil, break for me!" I shouted as I channeled my energy into the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and aimed it at Liu Xin's Spirit Cover.
Liu Xin looked at me coldly as I attacked. I had expected her to step back in fear and stop activating her spells. Instead, it became clear that she completely ignored me.
"How dare you look down on me!" Seeing Liu Xin's expression ignited a fire of anger within me. I snorted coldly and increased my strength as I swung the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword swiftly toward her.
The sword struck Liu Xin's Spirit Cover without deviation. With a forceful thrust, the entire Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword plunged into Liu Xin's head, splitting it in two.
"What the hell?!" I saw Liu Xin's half-head, with blood-streaked brain matter, and felt a wave of nausea wash over me. My brows furrowed as I sensed something was off, and I immediately prepared to draw the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword.
At that moment, Liu Xin suddenly reached out her hands and gripped the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword tightly. Her split head revealed a strange smile as she ominously said, "Stinky Taoist, your heart is too cruel; you actually split someone's head in half!"
"You’re still alive?!" Hearing Liu Xin’s words filled me with an ominous premonition. Logically, the Paper Spirit should not have been completely unscathed after being struck by the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword, yet Liu Xin appeared overly calm.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down. I tried once more to pull out the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword with all my strength, but it still wouldn’t budge. Gritting my teeth, I glared at Liu Xin in fury and said, "Since you want to die, I'll send you on your way!"
I threw two talismans onto Liu Xin's arm and then invoked the Seal, shouting, "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Spirit Fire Exorcism Order, command!"
As soon as my words fell, the Seal struck the two talismans. The talismans ignited spontaneously without fire, instantly transforming into two fire serpents that coiled around Liu Xin's arm.
The fire serpents bit down on her elbow and constricted tightly around her wrist. I watched as her arm was quickly charred black, the flames slowly burrowing into her body.
"Ah! Stinky Taoist, I'm going to kill you!" Liu Xin's expression twisted in pain as she was injured by the fire serpents on her wrist. She released her grip on the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and immediately extinguished the fire serpents on her wrist before reaching out towards my neck.
"You think you can kill me with that?" Seeing that the talismans were effective against Liu Xin, I tightened my grip on the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and swung it down forcefully, directly slicing Liu Xin's body in half.
I watched as a mass of intestines and internal organs spilled from Liu Xin's abdomen, blood splattering everywhere; it looked particularly gruesome. Her eyes dimmed and lost their light as she clutched her belly, casting a resentful glance at me before collapsing to the ground, motionless.
"Finally done!" Confirming that Liu Xin was no longer moving, I let out a sigh of relief. I sheathed the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and turned to look for Jiang Ling.
"Wait? Where did Jiang Bao go?!" I remembered that before my fight with Liu Xin, Jiang Bao had been lying not far away, but now there was no sign of him.
“Jiang Bao, where are you?” I shouted loudly, searching for Jiang Bao's figure. After looking around, I finally spotted him lying in the weeds not far away, blinking his eyes as if he had something to say to me.
“Jiang Bao, what’s wrong?” I thought he had something important to tell me, so I ran over.
“ Brother Jiang Ling, don’t come over! That Human Skin Paper Spirit is still alive!” Suddenly, Jiang Bao’s voice came from behind me, causing my heart to leap and my hair to stand on end.
“Jiang Bao, what do you mean?” I immediately stopped and turned around, but I didn’t see Jiang Bao anywhere. Just as I began to doubt my senses, his voice echoed again.
“ Brother Jiang Ling, I’m right here!” The Jiang Bao who had been lying in the weeds stood up, a brilliant smile on his face. However, the Jiang Bao I remembered would never smile like that. Seeing that smile sent a chill down my spine.
The words he had just said echoed in my mind: The Human Skin Paper Spirit is not dead!
I recalled the battle with the Human Skin Paper Spirit and felt a cold sweat break out. I had just cut the Human Skin Paper Spirit in half; its insides had spilled everywhere. It all seemed normal at first glance, but the Human Skin Paper Spirit shouldn’t have had any organs—inside should have been nothing but talisman paper.
“Damn it, have I fallen into a trap?” I forced myself to suppress my fear and turned back to where the fight had taken place. What I saw was the same as before: instead of talisman paper scattered on the ground, there was a pile of bloody entrails.
I swallowed hard, feeling confused about what had just happened. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down. I drew my Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword again and looked at Jiang Bao with an icy tone. “Who are you really?”
