I saw the eerie energy surrounding the Old Witch dissipate, and I couldn't help but touch my ear, saying, "Isn't it a bit too late to run now?"
As soon as I finished speaking, I noticed the Old Witch turning her head towards me and Jiang Bao. A sinister smile appeared on her face as she pointed her staff at us, chuckling darkly, "Hehe, now I'm going to turn you into zombies to vent my anger!"
"It's also time for you to know the power of the Old Witch!" With that, the Old Witch thrust her staff into the ground and used her fingernail to cut open her left palm, letting the crimson blood drip onto the staff.
The Old Witch stared expressionlessly at the blood flowing from her palm, looking very strange, as if that blood did not belong to her.
After more than ten seconds, her blood had stained a large part of the staff red. At that moment, she cast a peculiar seal and shouted, "Blood sacrifice to the Demon God, with my body as the guide! Commanding all ghosts to annihilate the gods! Summon ghostly secret arts, appear!"
As soon as she finished chanting, all the blood on the staff seemed to burrow into it, transforming the entire staff into a deep red color that faintly emitted a disturbing crimson light.
I looked at the staff in front of the Old Witch and felt an ominous premonition. I raised my Peach Wood Sword in front of me and said to Jiang Bao, "Be careful! The Old Witch's staff is not simple!"
"I know! Brother Jiang Ling, you be careful too!" Jiang Bao nodded. He took out a few talismans from his belongings and handed them to me.
I accepted the talismans. Given the current situation, I couldn't afford to be careless. I immediately affixed two talismans onto my Peach Wood Sword and stuck the remaining ones all over myself.
Just as I finished applying the talismans, a sudden gust of wind swept across Grave Hill, making it hard for me to keep my eyes open. I shielded my eyes with my left hand and shivered involuntarily because I sensed a powerful eerie energy within this wind that felt extremely cold.
Jiang Bao was in a similar situation. He came over to me and asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, what’s happening? Why has such a strong ghostly wind suddenly appeared?"
I shook my head and replied, "I’m not sure either!"
The ghostly wind came quickly and left just as fast. After about ten seconds, it vanished.
I opened my eyes again and noticed that the light on Grave Hill had dimmed significantly, as if darkness were about to descend.
Jiang Bao pointed towards the Old Witch's staff not far away and said in a panicked voice, " Brother Jiang Ling, look at that!"
I followed the direction pointed out by Jiang Bao and saw the Old Witch sitting on the ground in agony. Her face had turned extremely pale, and her palms were still bleeding.
In front of the Old Witch, her staff absorbed the blood, emitting a red glow. Then, the staff twisted, and a fragment broke off, immediately transforming into a ghost. Once those ghosts took shape, they flew straight into the sky.
I looked up and noticed that Grave Hill was shrouded in a mass of dark clouds, hiding hundreds or even thousands of ghosts within, so densely packed that they were impossible to count.
Each of these ghosts was formidable, with at least a decade of cultivation experience. They radiated a strong aura of malice, clearly not benign spirits.
I was deeply shocked by the scene before me. I swallowed nervously and said, "Jiang Bao, this Old Witch is summoning Evil Spirits from the Underworld. By the looks of it, she can only hold on for about ten more minutes. We just need to endure until then!"
Jiang Bao's face turned as bitter as a melon. He asked nervously, " Brother Jiang Ling, can we really last that long? I feel like we won't even survive a minute!"
"Stop talking nonsense! Those Evil Spirits are already coming at us; hurry up and take action!" I kicked Jiang Bao and without wasting any more words, I brandished my Peach Wood Sword at the approaching Evil Spirits.
Seeing the Evil Spirits descending from above, a fierce light flashed in Jiang Bao's eyes. He shouted defiantly, "Damn it! I, Jiang Bao, have never backed down; your bunch of ghosts won't scare me! Watch me destroy you!"
As Jiang Bao and I fought against the swarm of Evil Spirits, Wu Bansian, who was eating at that moment, sensed something amiss. Frowning, he calculated something with his fingers and suddenly shouted that it was bad before rushing out of the house.
Uncle followed closely behind Wu Bansian and asked in confusion, "Wu Bansian, what's wrong?"
Wu Bansian's expression turned serious as he pointed toward the distant hill shrouded in dark clouds. He asked Uncle, "What is that hill in our village?"
"That's our village's Grave Hill. Wu Bansian, is something wrong?" Uncle looked in the direction Wu Bansian pointed with confusion. He hadn't activated his Wisdom Eye; unless he stood atop Grave Hill itself, he couldn't see the dark clouds there.
"Grave Hill?!" Wu Bansian muttered under his breath. His brow furrowed as he said to Uncle, "There's something strange going on at Grave Hill. I'm going to check it out; you all stay here!"
With that, Wu Bansian quickly headed toward Grave Hill. His brow was tightly knit as he observed the hill while muttering to himself, "Why is there such strong Eerie Energy at Grave Hill? Could it be that a Vengeful Spirit has emerged?!"
Jiang Bao and I had no idea that Wu Bansian was rushing toward us. Even if we did know, we had no time to think about it because we were already surrounded by over thirty Evil Spirits. Moreover, there were still many more Evil Spirits eyeing us hungrily from above.
I stood back to back with Jiang Bao, vigilantly watching the surrounding Evil Spirits. Although we had already slain over seventy of them, our magical energy was nearly depleted, and the Peach Wood Sword in my hand had become shattered, leaving only a fragment. We had reached a dead end.
Jiang Bao pulled out the last Talisman from his waist pouch, stuck it onto himself, and began to breathe heavily. " Brother Jiang Ling, do you have any tricks left? If you do, hurry up and use them, or we're going to die here!"
I wiped the sweat from my forehead and replied irritably, "What are you thinking? If I had any tricks up my sleeve, I would have used them already! Why would I be hiding them?"
Upon hearing my words, Jiang Bao shook his head and sighed. "Looks like we're both going to die on this Grave Hill. It's such a pity; I was hoping to have a child with Jie this year!"
I shot him an incredulous look. "Dude, can you not? I'm still a virgin!"
Just as Jiang Bao and I were bickering, several more Evil Spirits charged at us. We clenched our Seals tightly and brandished the broken Peach Wood Sword as we faced the approaching foes.
I deflected one Evil Spirit's attack with my Peach Wood Sword and then struck out with my left hand towards its chest, casting a Seal while shouting, "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Daoist magic..."
Before I could finish the incantation, an Evil Spirit ambushed me from behind. I didn't even have time to react before I was kicked away.
I crashed heavily to the ground, feeling a sweetness in my throat as I spat out a mouthful of blood. Wiping the blood from the corner of my mouth, I saw that Jiang Bao was already lying on the ground; his condition was similar to mine.
At that moment, an Old Witch approached us with a sinister smile. "Hehe, I'm going to turn you into Zombies; I will definitely succeed!"
