"That's none of your business!" Lu Jie shot me a glare, tightly clutching the red bead in her palm, clearly afraid I would snatch it away.
Her tone made me uncomfortable. I glanced at her and replied nonchalantly, "How is it not my business? This thing was obtained from Evil Cat, so logically, it should be shared among those who find it! You’d better hand it over, or don’t blame me for getting rough!"
I emphasized my point by swinging the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword a few times, casting a threatening glance at Lu Jie.
" Brother Jiang Ling, what are you doing?" Jiang Bao rushed over, grabbing my arm with a smile. " Brother Jiang Ling, although Jie can be a bit blunt, she definitely means no harm. Just let it go!"
I only wanted to express my dissatisfaction, and with Jiang Bao giving me an out, I decided not to press the issue further. I sheathed the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and looked at Jiang Bao. "For your sake, I'll let her off this time."
Jiang Bao nodded eagerly. " Brother Jiang Ling, why don’t you head back first? Jie is injured; we’re planning to return to Spirit Ghost Street."
I nodded in agreement. "You two should hurry back; I’ll head home first."
After chatting with Jiang Bao for a bit, I descended Grave Hill and walked toward the village.
Once I left, Jiang Bao turned back to Lu Jie and said with concern, "Jie, you’re hurt badly; we should get back to Spirit Ghost Street quickly!"
With that, Jiang Bao immediately drew a strange symbol on the ground. After finishing the symbol, he cast a Seal spell, and the ancient gate of Spirit Ghost Street appeared above Grave Hill.
"Let’s hurry inside!" Jiang Bao supported Lu Jie as he pushed open the ancient door and stepped into Spirit Ghost Street. The moment the door swung open, I could see a crowd gathered inside.
"Why are there so many people?!" Jiang Bao frowned, a sense of foreboding creeping into his mind. Having spent so much time in Spirit Ghost Street, this was the first time he had seen such a scene. It meant something significant had happened.
They walked into Spirit Ghost Street, and after about a second, the large gate on Grave Hill disappeared.
When I returned to Uncle's house, I found that Uncle and the others had not yet come back. So, I placed my backpack under the bed and sat on the bed to play with my phone.
I chatted with Qu Liang via text for about half an hour when I suddenly heard a commotion outside. I put my phone away and walked out of the house.
"Hey? Isn't that the old man Wu Bansian from the bus station?!" As I stepped outside, I saw a large crowd of villagers gathered around Wu Bansian. At that moment, he was wearing a yellow Daoist robe, with a backpack slung over his shoulder, and a faint smile on his face, presenting himself as a wise hermit.
"Wu Bansian, you must come to my house for dinner! My wife has even killed the old hen that lays eggs, just waiting for you to come!"
"Wu Bansian, I've prepared food at my place; you should have lunch at my house!"
"Wu Bansian, don't listen to them!"
Hearing the villagers' words, I realized they were all vying for Wu Bansian to eat at their homes. Just then, I noticed Uncle standing next to Wu Bansian.
Uncle pointed at the house behind me and said loudly, "Wu Bansian, my house is right here. It's so hot; you should rest at my place for a while!"
Wu Bansian followed Uncle's gesture and looked over, just in time to see me standing outside. We exchanged glances, and Wu Bansian smiled and nodded at me.
Wu Bansian turned back to Uncle and said with a smile, "Alright then, I'll trouble you today!"
He cupped his hands toward the people around him and said, "Everyone please head back for now. I'll be waiting at the village entrance at three o'clock this afternoon; just come find me then!"
After finishing his words, Wu Bansian quickly walked into the house with Uncle. The villagers behind him let out a sigh and gradually dispersed.
“Jiang Ling, hurry up and get some water for the Daoist!” Uncle called out to me, and then he and Aunt walked into the kitchen to start preparing lunch.
“Okay, I’ll be right there!” I replied, quickly grabbing a cup and pouring a glass of cool water for Wu Bansian.
Wu Bansian took the cup and took a sip, then looked at me with a smile and said, “Brother, I didn’t expect to see you again. What a coincidence!”
I nodded and sat down across from Wu Bansian, curious as I asked, “Wu Bansian, are you here in our village to eliminate the Drought Demon?”
“I am indeed here to eliminate the Drought Demon, but I’ve already figured out that the Drought Demon is not in your village!” Wu Bansian said with a knowing smile.
“Oh, if the Drought Demon isn’t in our village, then where is it hiding?” I asked curiously.
“If you want to know, you can join me this afternoon to search for the Drought Demon’s whereabouts,” Wu Bansian said cheerfully. “As long as you use your Daoist Arts to help, I believe we’ll have a much better chance of defeating that Drought Demon!”
I was taken aback by Wu Bansian’s words. I thought to myself that I had never demonstrated my Daoist Arts in front of him; even Uncle and the others didn’t know I could use Daoist Arts. So how did Wu Bansian see through it so easily?
I wiped the smile off my face and looked at Wu Bansian warily, asking seriously, “Who are you? How do you know I can use Daoist Arts?”
“Ha ha! I’m Wu Bansian!” he laughed loudly, taking another sip of water without a care for my suspicion.
I stood up from my chair and clenched my fists. “Old man, you better explain yourself clearly, or I won’t let you go!”
Wu Bansian glanced at me dismissively and beckoned with his finger. “Go ahead and show me what you’ve got!”
Seeing Wu Bansian’s attitude made me feel uncertain inside, but I still prepared to test his depth.
"Look at my fist, as big as a clay pot!" I shouted, throwing a heavy punch towards Wu Bansian.
Just as my fist shot out, I felt a blur in front of me; Wu Bansian had already vanished from the chair.
"Oh no!" I realized something was off and tried to turn around to defend myself, but it was too late.
Suddenly, I saw Wu Bansian appear behind me. He kicked me hard in the backside, and I lost control of my speed, crashing into the chair and toppling it over.
Uncle heard the noise and came out from the kitchen. Seeing me knock over the chair, he immediately scolded, "Jiang Ling, it's not easy for Wu Bansian to rest in our home; don't be so reckless!"
I stood up from the floor, feeling embarrassed as I rubbed my ear. "I understand, Uncle!"
Uncle was about to scold me further when Wu Bansian waved his hand at him with a smile, saying, "It's fine, it's fine! You two go ahead and continue with what you were doing!"
After exchanging a few words with Wu Bansian, Uncle returned to the kitchen.
Wu Bansian put away his smile and turned to me with a serious expression. "Brother, do you really not know who I am?"
