Wei Dong's figure was agile and swift. Just as he was about to exert all his strength to assist his severely injured companion, a voice suddenly came from below the floor, interrupting his actions. "Wei Dong! No need to worry, a team is already on the way!" Swen's voice carried a hint of ease, as if everything had been perfectly controlled.
Wei Dong halted his actions, turning his gaze toward the source of the voice. He saw a cover on the ground suddenly opened, revealing a hidden underground passage. From the passage, Darius and Swen slowly climbed up, their clothes covered in dust, but both appeared remarkably calm.
Swen wiped the dust off his face while adjusting his clothes and explained to Wei Dong, "We’ve been observing the situation underground. Once we saw that things were under control, we immediately contacted the troops for support. They will bring medical teams and rescue equipment; they’ll arrive shortly."
Darius approached and patted Wei Dong on the shoulder. "You did well, Wei Dong. We could feel the vibrations from above even down in the tunnels. That guy Xiong Wen'an... he finally got what he deserved."
Hearing this, Wei Dong's tension eased slightly. He turned back to look at the injured person still on the ground, concern and unease filling his eyes. "Hurry up; they can't hold on much longer," he sighed softly, hoping for the arrival of the rescue team to safely bring everyone out of this disaster.
Just as Wei Dong finished speaking, the sound of synchronized military boots striking the ground echoed from a distance, accompanied by rapid and powerful footsteps that grew closer. Wei Dong was slightly surprised and smiled as he said, "Now that's speed! Impressive."
Swen stood beside Wei Dong and nodded with a smile. "The Immortal Fortress's guard troops have little else to attend to besides this matter, so of course they’re quick!"
Before long, a squad of soldiers rushed onto the scene, dressed in uniform combat gear and well-equipped. They quickly assessed the situation and began to take action; some set up temporary medical stations while others carefully moved rocks and debris.
The commander led the way, maintaining a soldier's characteristic seriousness and calmness. However, when his gaze swept over the rubble and unconscious victims, Wei Dong noticed surprise in his eyes. Even he, experienced as he was, could not hide his shock at the aftermath of such a brutal battle.
"We will handle this situation as quickly as possible," the commander assured Wei Dong. "Rest assured; we will rescue everyone." As soon as he finished speaking, the medical team began working busily to provide first aid to the injured and carefully lifted them onto stretchers, preparing to evacuate them to a safer location for treatment.
Wei Dong felt immense gratitude as he watched the soldiers' professionalism and efficiency; his internal pressure eased somewhat. He knew that with this powerful rescue team, these injured individuals would receive timely medical attention and survive this life-and-death crisis.
Swen also walked over to Wei Dong, watching the work of the medical team with a serious expression. He felt an overwhelming concern for the pain brought by this battle. He understood that even victorious campaigns often came with heavy costs, and what lay before them was clear evidence of that truth.
Wei Dong stood beside God Tone, his heavy gaze sweeping over his brother's weary face, marked by the toll of hard work. God Tone's arms were covered in cracks and blood, each scar silently narrating his reckless bravery. Wei Dong's attention then shifted to Polnareff and Sergeant Rad; the former had lost consciousness, while the latter lay in a coma due to severe injuries.
Wei Dong's expression darkened further, filled with guilt and pain. In that moment, he deeply reflected on his decisions. Although they had ultimately triumphed, the cost weighed heavily on him. He realized that if he had not held back his strength from the beginning, perhaps those around him would not have endured so much suffering.
"I should have resolved the battle sooner..." Wei Dong sighed softly, regret flooding his heart. A sense of powerlessness washed over him, as if he could not bear this heavy burden. He understood that as a leader, every decision he made impacted the survival of the entire team, and his hesitation and restraint had led to such losses and pain.
Gently, Wei Dong lowered his hand and patted God Tone's shoulder kindly, trying to bring some comfort to his brother. However, he knew that these reassurances could not erase his sense of responsibility for this disaster. His eyes were resolute yet sorrowful as he silently vowed that from now on, he would spare no effort to protect his family and teammates, ensuring that similar tragedies would not occur again.
This lesson was deeply etched in Wei Dong's heart; he was determined to learn from it and firmly walk a path of greater caution and decisiveness. He understood that leadership was not just about courage and strength but also about wisdom and decisiveness.
God Tone looked at his brother Wei Dong, whose face was twisted with guilt, feeling a profound sense of helplessness. Slowly sitting up, dust covering his face revealed a hint of pain as he spoke with a trembling voice, "Brother... you are not at fault; I am too weak... I couldn't protect everyone. While you fought fiercely against the enemy in front, I couldn't help at all."
He watched as teammates were carefully lifted onto stretchers by soldiers; the busy figures of medics deepened the impact of this tragedy. God Tone was filled with self-reproach; each injured teammate felt like his responsibility. If only he had been stronger from the start, perhaps the outcome would have been different.
"I should be stronger... I shouldn't distract you..." God Tone's voice choked with emotion as he struggled to suppress his tears, but the moisture at the corners of his eyes betrayed his inner turmoil.
Listening to his brother's self-blame, Wei Dong sighed deeply. He walked over and firmly placed his hand on God Tone's shoulder, saying earnestly, "God Tone, this is not your fault. Everyone has their own battles to fight; you are trying your best too. We are family; we face difficulties together and grow together. We all share responsibility and make mistakes, but more importantly, we must become stronger together."
These words offered God Tone some comfort, yet the weight in his heart remained heavy. He nodded slowly, silently resolving not to be a burden beside his brother anymore but to become a true warrior who could be relied upon.
