Zheng Yifan was dazed for over two hours, until the sun began to set, before he took Li Ning to find something to eat.
There were indeed plenty of delicious options here. Along the way, Zheng Yifan even spotted many members he had led, gathered in groups at various shops, browsing for items that caught their interest.
When they saw Zheng Yifan passing by, they would wait for him to go ahead before continuing their shopping.
Of course, most people didn’t notice Zheng Yifan; after all, he wasn’t particularly eye-catching in the crowd.
More importantly, Zheng Yifan appeared quite lazy at the moment, lacking the energy he had shown earlier when he was shouting excitedly in the vehicle while surveying his territory. The contrast was striking.
“Li Ning, what good food do you have around here? Or what’s famous?” Zheng Yifan asked Li Ning beside him.
This fellow had been hanging around the Wilderness Gathering Place for quite a while and knew where to find good eats.
“Boss, there’s actually a lot of good food. I’ve been here several times. But I’m afraid you might not be used to it. I personally prefer going to street stalls for barbecued skewers!” Li Ning scratched his head awkwardly.
While others went to well-known restaurants, he was different; he loved eating barbecue at those inconspicuous places.
Due to the meat supply in the real world, there was still meat available in the Last Hope Gathering Place and surrounding areas. However, it was relatively expensive.
Even at roadside stalls, not many could afford pork or beef. Most people ate other things instead.
For example, vegetables, soy products, and poultry. Seafood and lamb were comparatively expensive, so not many indulged in them.
Even so, when Zheng Yifan arrived at a nondescript street stall tucked away in an alley, he was taken aback.
There were hundreds of people joyfully drinking in a massive courtyard that resembled a factory. They laughed and chatted while enjoying barbecued meat.
The meat was scarce; most of it consisted of soy products, yet everyone still ate with greasy satisfaction.
This was partly because poultry like chicken and duck were easy to raise and grew quickly, resulting in reasonable prices. While they couldn’t afford much meat, chicken and duck were still available.
Most people now enjoy chicken and duck meat. The duck is soaked in a broth made from beef fat mixed with beef bones, giving it a deceptively rich flavor. Everyone indulges without restraint.
They savor the deliciousness.
So what if they are truck drivers? They still earn quite a bit of money. The profits are decent. There are hardly any impoverished residents in the Hope Gathering Place. The truly poor live on the outskirts and have not even joined the Survivor community of the Hope Gathering Place.
They are the ones truly struggling, counting their food to get by.
The truck drivers in the Hope Gathering Place can even afford beef and lamb, though for them, that is considered quite extravagant. What they eat now, however, is well within their means.
Zheng Yifan and Li Ning sat together in a corner. However, their order was relatively "luxurious."
They feasted on beef, lamb, chicken wings, and even ordered quite a bit of seafood.
But nothing too high-end.
After the meal, Zheng Yifan had a general understanding that the Survivors in his Gathering Place found it difficult to accept the prices of beef and lamb; he had just checked and confirmed they were indeed expensive. However, other food items were no longer an issue.
He even heard from Li Ning that several breweries had opened outside the Hope Gathering Place.
The production lines could almost guarantee continuous operation around the clock. Yet, there was still not enough to meet demand.
The Survivors' lives had been secured, and the demand for supplies indicated that life and production in this post-apocalyptic world had reached a fairly good level of recovery.
Although Zheng Yifan still needed to provide many supplies,
food was no longer scarce. The main issue was that they could not obtain meat products since they lacked the necessary resources to acquire them.
After finishing the meal, they enjoyed a unique flavor of grilled meat, which included many rare spices from the post-apocalypse era.
Most of them were mutated plants from the apocalypse. Now, these plants were gradually being consumed by people.
The taste was quite good, and some of the plants even had the ability to replenish vital energy.
They could be considered some of the more delicious ingredients bestowed by the apocalypse.
After savoring a variety of flavors, they finally began to make their way toward their destination.
That was the Casino Area. He had never encountered an apocalypse version of Las Vegas; he had only heard that it was entirely mechanized. Everything was electronic, with none of the traditional games found in the real world.
With a heart full of curiosity, he rushed over.
On the way, Zheng Yifan held onto a dozen skewers of chicken wings. However, by the time they reached Las Vegas, he had eaten them all.
Li Ning also had grease all over his mouth. He really hadn’t expected so many delicious foods in the apocalypse. More importantly, they had tasted many seasonings they had never encountered before.
Some of these seasonings even exceeded Zheng Yifan's vocabulary limits; it was a completely new flavor, but he didn’t know what it was called. It was simply delicious.
Entering Las Vegas with the scent of grilled skewers on him, he noticed that the waitstaff greeted him with smiles and were much friendlier.
Everyone belonged to the same social class; they were just there to spend money. All of them had also spent time in their own version of Las Vegas.
The gaming odds in Las Vegas were quite fair, and the chances of winning weren’t as rigged as in the real world; most probabilities were equal. Only 5% of the take was how Las Vegas made its profit.
As for competitive games, they were more about wit and courage.
Once Zheng Yifan entered Las Vegas, he and Li Ning each exchanged 10,000 New Hope Currency for chips.
It was a thick electronic card about three or four centimeters thick, with "Wasteland Casino" written boldly on it.
Upon entering, he found that the atmosphere wasn’t as glamorous as he had imagined; it didn’t resemble the well-dressed scenes from movies at all. In fact, it was far less impressive than what he had encountered in Las Vegas.
Most people are just ordinary folks, casually playing Mahjong during their downtime.
Perhaps that’s why there are no restrictions in Las Vegas during the apocalypse.
When Zheng Yifan entered, he saw the largest machine in Las Vegas, which almost surrounded the entire first floor of the casino.
It resembled a real Wild Horse, running wildly.
Every detail was meticulously crafted.
At the lower level, there were many machines. Players could choose their difficulty level; once selected, they would insert their card and input their chips, then use a prepared rope to lasso the Wild Horse's neck to win chips.
The multipliers for winning chips varied at each position.
Even Superpowered Individuals didn’t mind, as the weight of the lasso wasn’t very heavy; winning depended mostly on luck and feel.
Moreover, using Superpowers here was prohibited.
There were Fifth-Level Espers from the Hope Gathering Place checking at all times, along with professional equipment to prevent the use of Superpowers. (To be continued...)
