It was truly a tragedy—a young man who wanted to save his father, yet lacked the strength and ability to do so.
What angered Zheng Yifan even more was the resurgence of Slave Owners, a profession that should have been buried in the annals of history, now thriving in this apocalyptic world.
They were nothing short of the most despicable vampires in existence, seeking to strip humanity of all hope for survival.
Zheng Yifan could imagine those desperate individuals risking their lives to gather useful supplies for the Slave Owners in perilous places, only to ultimately use those supplies to fend off Zombies, to fight for their lives. They would attract the attention of Zombies to provide cover for the escape of those Slave Owners.
Even worse, when those individuals became useless, they were slaughtered like livestock and sold as meat to Slaughterhouses.
Everything was imaginable, and it was terrifying. If there was anything that made Zheng Yifan feel that the world had truly descended into an apocalypse, it was undoubtedly the emergence of Slave Owners.
Zhang Qiang's final mission intrigued Zheng Yifan greatly. He eagerly anticipated whether Niu could truly endure, for according to the powers and rules of the Primordial Pearl, completing that mission would surely grant him immense strength.
Even using a single Primordial Pearl could transport him to the Vitality Tower; this was the formidable energy generated by the combined power of the Primordial Pearl and the rules.
In this way, he could enter the Vitality Tower without depleting the power of the Primordial Pearl.
This realization had only just dawned on him, and he had received affirmation from the Time-Space Barrier.
Now that he understood all of this, Zheng Yifan began contemplating ways to enter the Vitality Tower without consuming a Primordial Pearl or using methods akin to smuggling.
Gathering Primordial Pearls was simply too time-consuming, and each one was incredibly precious, possessing various powers.
Initially, he had aimed to collect three worthless Primordial Pearls to enter the Vitality Tower. However, now he saw a glimmer of hope. Those high-grade Primordial Pearls possessed diverse powers; if he could leverage that power along with rules to assist his entry into the Vitality Tower, wouldn’t it allow him to enter without consuming any Primordial Pearls?
This was nothing short of a blessing for him—a complete blessing.
Having figured all this out, he was ready to proceed with his plan.
Of course, it would not involve utilizing that troublesome ultimate mission. Based on his understanding and calculations, he knew how ridiculous that mission was. Completing it would require wasting even more time—time that could be better spent acquiring another set of Primordial Pearls.
Zheng Yifan would never engage in such a losing deal. His goal now was to find another Primordial Pearl with powerful abilities.
As he pondered these thoughts, Qianyuan Village Gathering Place was already within reach. He found himself in a Safe Zone now—there wasn’t a single Zombie in sight, nor any wild beasts.
The people here live in safety.
Of course, this was Zheng Yifan's thought, but when he arrived, what he saw was a different scene altogether.
Starving corpses lay everywhere, and the people had almost lost all hope.
Here, humans had no enemies; they were the masters of this place. However, the System no longer provided food. Without food, they had no means to survive.
Thus, the current miserable scene unfolded.
In front of him, thousands of people were not resting in their homes. Instead, they waited on the streets, looking expectantly towards the outside of the village.
Even after a night had passed, they remained in this state.
These people were so hungry that they lacked the strength to move. All they could do was hold on and survive, living with hope.
Their leader, Old Man Song, had taken all the elite members of Qianyuan Village into battle to search for food outside.
Perhaps if they could just hold on a little longer, they would see their leader return triumphantly with plenty of provisions. If they could receive some food, they would have the strength to fight again.
As long as there was food to restore them, they too were Superpowered Individuals. They had fighting power.
Zheng Yifan walked among them, observing the countless starving corpses around him. He truly did not understand why they didn’t just go out and fight; wouldn’t that solve everything?
Even if it meant dying in battle or surrendering, it would be far better than starving to death like this.
In truth, what truly restrained them was the System God. He gave these people hope for survival and instilled confidence in them to continue fighting. Thus, they persisted and waited for food, hoping for the System God's favor.
But what they did not know was that their faith in the System God was misplaced; he himself was struggling to survive. His resources were depleted and had all been allocated as missions for them. How could he sustain these parasites?
What seemed like tasks for the System God held little significance because there were no meaningful missions nearby. What truly mattered was for them to join the ranks of Survivors and engage in combat.
The so-called game was merely about leveling up and defeating bosses; without enemies, their existence held no meaning.
The relocation of the System God could actually allow them to be reborn, and Zheng Yifan could also gain some reliance on the power within the Primordial Pearl with its help.
At the very least, it would set a basic lower limit on his damage, meaning attacks would no longer be a matter of success or failure.
There was also a method of fighting at high frequency with minimal damage, relying on the System's power to forcibly eliminate enemies.
It sounded quite incredible, but in reality, it was simple; the power of the Primordial Pearl was akin to dealing unbreakable damage during battles in a game.
However, this damage had a minimum value of 1. When the number of attacks dealing this minimum damage reached a certain limit, the overall damage could be terrifying. By utilizing this power, he could complete challenges and take down those tough-skinned enemies.
If he had possessed this power when he first encountered the Third-Stage Zombie, he could have easily wiped out those Zombies.
Now, Zheng Yifan held onto this thought as he and Zhang Qiang arrived at the very center of the village.
The Starving Corpses had no strength to inquire about food; they could only wait for news. As long as Zheng Yifan and his companions had news that would allow them to survive, no one expected anything more.
Zheng Yifan had fantasized countless times about what form the Primordial Pearl would take, but when he finally saw it, he was left speechless.
It was located in the Ancestral Hall at the center of the village. Upon entering, one could see an open door leading to an altar where a stand was respectfully placed before it. On top of it lay an object resembling a night pearl. This was the System God, which was none other than the Primordial Pearl. (To be continued.)
