In front of Zheng Yifan, a figure gradually materialized, transforming into an exact replica of Li Ning. The figure solidified, exuding an ethereal aura, its body brimming with explosive power. Zheng Yifan looked at the Avatar of the Believers with satisfaction and nodded, then pointed to the ground where Li Ning lay on a stretcher.
Li Ning had completely lost consciousness, unaware of everything happening around him. However, the Avatar of the Believers gazed at Li Ning's body with a sense of compassion, as if seeing a pitiful sight. It slowly stood in front of Li Ning, embracing him like a loving mother.
The two identical men held each other tightly. In a post-apocalyptic world, they might have exchanged banter, but now their focus was solely on Li Ning's condition—whether he could be revived and to what extent.
Li Ning was the chief's most trusted bodyguard. Although his strength might not match that of the chief, he was still among the top personnel in the Hope Gathering Place and a good friend to them all.
In terms of strength rankings, aside from Zheng Yifan, Li Ning would undoubtedly be in the top ten.
Now, this most loyal Fellow of the chief had ended up like this during a battle, all for the sake of protecting them. They had never encountered such unreasonable enemies before.
During their pursuit, they passed through a Third-Tier City. Initially, they planned to easily eliminate the surrounding Zombies and allow other ordinary Lone Wanderers to pick up some scraps while the Explorer Alliance's Fellows conducted thorough clean-ups. They intended to use the resources obtained to trade within the Gathering Place.
The Hope Gathering Place was not worried about them acquiring resources because whether it was food or supplies, everything had already surpassed its expiration date. What they could trade for were indeed fresh items.
However, on the outskirts of this city, there was unexpectedly a Sixth-Stage Zombie. This Zombie was incredibly powerful, capable of single-handedly taking down nearly all of them. It severely injured everyone until Li Ning unleashed his strength at the last moment and defeated the Zombie; otherwise, they might have faced total annihilation.
And this was just exploring the outskirts of the city; they hadn’t even dared to venture inside. Yet they had a premonition that something even more terrifying lurked within because outside, they could see nothing of what lay inside.
Zheng Yifan listened as Han Rui slowly recounted events while silently observing the Avatar of the Believers merging with Li Ning’s body.
As the Avatar’s limbs entered Li Ning’s body, it began to expand like an inflated balloon. Gradually swelling and then returning to its original form, this process was remarkably swift—taking less than ten seconds. Inside, his body quickly increased its suction power, seeking to replenish Vital Energy.
The heartbeat at the location was so intense that even others could hear it, and a murky liquid began to seep out from Li Ning's body.
"Ugh!" Almost everyone instinctively stepped back.
They simply couldn't handle the smell. Unlike Zheng Yifan's earlier experience, Li Ning had already expelled impurities from his body before, but this time was different. Clearly undergoing a second detoxification, this process was far more thorough. The dark liquid contained all sorts of things, even the impure Vital Energy within him was being expelled.
However, calling it toxic gas wasn't entirely inaccurate.
Li Ning himself was unaware that his body was rapidly absorbing the power of the Avatar of the Believers. It was thanks to this medium that Zheng Yifan dared to lend his strength to Li Ning.
Fortunately, he was a follower of Zheng Yifan; otherwise, without the formidable Avatar of the Believers, this step would have been impossible.
At this point, Li Ning could be certain that his life was saved and his superpower preserved. What would happen after reaching the Fifth Level remained uncertain. Unlike before, if he continued to absorb without restraint, he would ultimately trigger the last protective mechanism in his body. The Vital Energy would cease to be absorbed; while he wouldn't die, he would be left in a half-alive state. More importantly, his superpower would become fixed and turn into waste.
Now, with an abundance of Vital Energy, it was as if a flower receiving nourishment was destined to bloom beautifully.
Li Ning wasn't a flower, so he let out a fart that was both fragrant and foul.
Like a toxic gas bomb, the surrounding air became unbearable. Even Zheng Yifan quickly retreated several meters away. For several minutes, the stench lingered in the air.
Li Ning needed quite some time to enter the detoxification phase; however, no one left. They silently watched him and prayed quietly.
Whether their prayers had any effect or if fate itself was watching over this follower of Zheng Yifan, Li Ning's body fully recovered, and all impurities were expelled completely. Then the Avatar of the Believers completely entered Li Ning's body. This was the most crucial step; it felt as if a massive Vital Energy furnace had formed in Li Ning's chest, accommodating all the Vital Energy within. The Avatar of the Believers was swallowed by Li Ning's chest, and strange waves of Vital Energy were released from within. This was Zheng Yifan's Vital Energy power; however, it was evidently released by Li Ning himself. He only needed the most basic energy; anything tainted by other powers would not be accepted.
Zheng Yifan finally let out a sigh. In the end, he had lent his strength to Li Ning, a power that was not so easily accepted. Each person's Vital Energy was different, and even if it was transformed, it would still vary.
Fortunately, Li Ning's Superpower was quite unique; the power of Duality ground all impurities to dust and expelled them.
Gradually, it became evident that Li Ning's breathing began to stabilize, and Zheng Yifan could feel the power of the Avatar of the Believers diminishing.
Zheng Yifan could finally breathe easy. Looking at the Left Guard, Pu Qiang, and several key figures from the Hope Gathering Place beside him, a smile finally appeared on his face.
"Alright! In just a little while, Li Ning will evolve into the first Fifth-Level Esper. You all need to keep pushing yourselves. But more importantly, let's go check out the new gadget I brought back and tell me how things have been for you these days." Zheng Yifan pointed towards the direction of the Ecological Sphere.
Everyone nodded in agreement, except for Old Hou, who remained steadfastly by Li Ning's side. He would watch over Li Ning until he fully recovered.
Zheng Yifan glanced at this once ruthless Fellow. Now, he wore a gentle expression, and his Vital Energy Fluctuation was quite subtle, making him appear like an ordinary old man. However, Zheng Yifan knew that this old man was anything but ordinary; if an average person provoked this Fellow, it would truly be a matter of life and death. (To be continued)
